Cindy McCain Injures Wrist Shaking Hands
August 13, 2008 5:46 PM
ABC News’ Bret Hovell reports: The wrist of the wife of the presumptive Republican nominee for president was injured Wednesday, by what the campaign calls an “enthusiastic” supporter shaking her hand.
Cindy McCain, the wife of Arizona Sen. John McCain, showed up in a sling and soft cast to a press conference Wednesday afternoon after making a precautionary trip to a hospital.
“I’m absolutely fine,” Cindy McCain said when asked by a reporter to describe her condition. “Just, we had a great luncheon fundraiser and I shook hands and it was a very enthusiastic supporter and it got me the wrong way. It’s – I’m absolutely great and this is a precautionary thing. So I’ll be fine.”
McCain opened his remarks to reporters with a description of what he called “Cindy’s new attire.”
“She has a minor sprain…and now will not have to shake so many hands,” McCain said.
As reporters were gathering for the press conference, shortly before 4 p.m. in Birmingham, MI, rumors started to fly that Mrs. McCain had been taken to a local hospital. Initially concern was great; soon word came that it was a simple wrist injury.
Cindy McCain suffered a stroke four years ago, the result of a problem with blood pressure. She told ABC News’s Kate Snow earlier this summer that she is fully recovered from that.
“But it’s also a good reminder for people to listen to your doctor and go have your blood pressure checked,” Mrs. McCain said at the time.
Today’s injury being very mild, Mrs. McCain is expected to continue campaigning with her husband tomorrow.

25% of large US corporations paid no federal income tax in 2005.
Did you?
If the answer is yes, vote for Obama.

Can we talk real issues for a moment?
25% of large American corporations paid no federal income tax in 2005. Did you?
Vote for Obama and end the rule by the WTO.
It is time for a change.

Now that is a great combination for the White House -- a white haired wrinkly dude who doesn't remember what he said two weeks ago and a wife who can't even shake hands! Look at all the positives... perhaps we can issue a billion dollar contract to Halliburton to make new "hand shake testing machines" -- as part of new white house security measures!!

This is a great example of why there is an etiquette to handshaking. The act is not about arm wrestling or proving one’s strength. It is about cordially welcoming or acknowledging another. A solid full-hand grip and a couple of shakes is all that is necessary---don’t pump the well dry and don’t hang on for dear life. It is doubtful that one would shake the hand of a frail senior or young child the way they might someone of their own age and health.
It’s just another act intended to be thoughtful and gracious and welcoming.
Be careful out there ;-)

Cindy has sold too much alcoholic beverage to Americans that's why she has very weak bones. Some punishment from God do not wait for tomorrow.

Haha yet another thing that harks back to the West Wing... I remember Alan Alda's character (albeit he was the guy running for President) had his hand so badly hurt by the continual shaking that he wore a removable cast in private...
