ABC News' Teddy Davis reports: Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., formally received the Democratic Party's presidential nod Wednesday evening, becoming the first African-American in U.S. history to be nominated for president by a major party.

In a tightly choreographed move orchestrated by the Obama and Clinton camps, the Illinois senator became the Democratic Party's presidential nominee when Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., asked the delegates attending the Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colo., to make Obama the nominee by acclamation.

"Let's declare together in one voice right here, right now that Barack Obama is our candidate and he will be our president," said Clinton.

Obama's nomination became official at 6:48 p.m. ET when Nancy Pelosi, the speaker of the House and permanent convention chair, said, "Two-thirds of the delegates having voted in the affirmative, the motion is adopted."

Clinton joined the New York delegation on the floor of the convention when the roll call of the states stood at 1549.5 votes for Obama and 341.5 for Clinton.

shame; i resent the racist accusations. i do not support obama, i supported hillary. as a young person i marched and demonstrated for civil rights/got arrested and beat over the head by the national guard. very involved in having mlk's birthday recognized and much, much, more... recently i was very involved in the jena 6 campaign, i was in new orleans up to my knees in mud helping families and raising money and awareness to help those in need. what have you done to advance civil rights that somehow gives you the right to call other's racist.

May God continue to bless and keep His faithful servent, Barack Obama. Keep him safe from evil and those who would wish him harm or try to do him harm. Continue to guide his decisions and actions.

Hey PUMAS huge parade you had on Monday, what 36 people is all you got? LOL! Hey, huge bankroll you have. First you guys said it was between $6 million and $10 million. But David Schuster on MSNBC got your "leader" to admit it's more like $50,000. LOL! No group of your inconsequential size has EVER been given the amount of media coverage. Hopefully this puts to rest anymore of your whining about media coverage all going for Obama. Hillary did the right thing in Denver and now it's time for you to go away. Bye-bye now.

The so-called, die-hard, on-going Hillary supporters need a therapist as this point. Not a place to Blog, a microphone or an interview spot on TV. They support a person who does not support them or their actions and have so little control of their emotions they will sacrifice the lives of our men and women in uniform, jobs, energy independence, women's issues and the heart and soul of the middle class because they are disgruntled. It is evident that they lack any core beliefs as they worked so hard and spoke out for all that Hillary believes in which is the same thing Obama believes in and direction he will lead our country. To throw that away is misplaced martydom and delusion at its best.

Dear Father -- please forgive these Obama worshippers, for they betray your commandment of worshipping false idols. Please forgive them Father, for they know not what they do, as they have fallen under the spell of the Evil One.

(Obama is a "church going Christian"? You mean the racist church that he went to for 20 years, and then said he missed those sermons because he wasn't there, then later said he was? Which is it, was he there with Wright with his bashing America, or wasn't he? LOL! )

We cant afford another 4 years of this administration. OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT.. AND THATS THE ONLY WAY IT IS!!!

All you pitiful PUMA'S and fake McCain supporters, I will pray for you while your own self hatred eat you up. McCain don't give a damn about you idiots. For those PUMA's who will need to have an abortion and John McCain spit in your face and tell you to go through the unwanted pregnancy, while telling you, you don't deserve the same pay as a man doing the same job. Thank your won stupidty, because if this old womanizing fool happens to get in, you will deserve what will happens.

Wow. This is exciting. No matter what party you are or who you supported in the primaries, you have to appreciate the historic significance of this moment. I just saw John Lewis interviewed and he was pretty emotional...you could tell that he never thought this day would come in his lifetime. I am a white Jewish woman and I am so proud today to be a Democrat and proud to be an American.

Well we will see how the polls go from now on, if Mc Cain starts to pass Obama you can say goodbye that's it he will loose.

I have not seen a bump as yet, Biden no bump. Hillary's begging no bump so lets see if after today, when all the tears have dried and this historic moment is forgotten if there is a bump, it there aint I don't have to tell you what that means, just enjoy the Toga party that is all

Posted by: novote | Aug 27, 2008 8:32:33 PM

History in the making. Drama was Hillary with the New York delegation on the floor in the trenches rallying the Democrat family. Yes the party is together. You could feel it!

"Let's declare together in one voice right here, right now that Barack Obama is our candidate and he will be our president," said Hillary Clinton.

Yes we can! Join us Republicans and Independents!

Obama/Biden '08

You know for persons to be celebrating this that a black man can run for President in the USA sure does not say much about this country or the American dream.

All this talk of this historic moment makes it look as if American and Americans are racial and no one ever thought in any lifetime this would happen.

Celebrate great but beware of the message you want to send to the rest of the world, because it sure seems like some American do not believe that the USA was a place where anyone could of made it.

Posted by: novote | Aug 27, 2008 8:38:13 PM

Wow there are some really ignorant people here. I am ashamed you are fellow americans. If you don't like Obama that's fine. But you are so caught up with your narrow minded hatred you really can't see the history that was made today. And they really let you guys vote.
