Clinton 'Releases' Her Delegates
August 27, 2008 5:23 PM
ABC News' Eloise Harper reports: Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., told her delegates this afternoon that they had been "released." Loud boos were heard in the room when she said to the thousands of Clinton delegates that, "as part of that tradition, I am here today to release you as my delegates."
While there is no formal process of releasing delegates, since they are not bound and free to vote for whoever they want, her public urging is seen as another gesture towards forging unity. It was also an opportunity to express her gratitude to supporters. Clinton thanked everyone in the room many times, and oftentimes, the boisterous crowd shouted back 'thank you!'
"I want you to know that this has been a joy," Clinton said. "Yes, we didn't make it. But boy, did we have a good time."
A roll call vote is slated to take place around 5 p.m. ET, but it will likely be aborted. According to Obama campaign advisors, an agreement has been made that the roll call will halt at some point and the convention will move to nominate Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., by acclamation.
Clinton told the delegates that she signed her ballot for Obama this morning, but said she understood that others would 'vote with their hearts.'
"I have spoken to many of you who have expressed your questions about what you should do. Now, many of you feel a responsibility to represent the voters in your state. And others of you, after this long journey, want the chance to vote for what’s in your heart. Now, still others will be voting for Sen. Obama because they want to demonstrate their personal commitment for the unity of this party behind our nominee. I am not telling you what to do. You come here from so many different places, having made this journey and feeling in your heart what is right for you."
The crowd cheered loudly when Clinton mentioned that there would be a roll call vote.
"It is traditional that we have nominations, that we have a roll call, that we have candidates who look for ways to work to make sure that we come out of here ready to win in November," Clinton said. "At the end of today, we will nominate Barack Obama and Joe Biden for the president and vice president of the United States."
After thanking the crowd and shaking hands, Clinton heads to the Pepsi Center for the roll call vote.

jules - I am also a PUMA. I am NOT a Republican. I have ALWAYS voted for the Democratic nominee. But, this time we must (in your own words) "rid the country of the corruption and hate" that Obama and his bots have perpetrated upon this party.

Have you ever followed a political campaign before, LeeLee07? People say things during a campaign to WIN. I am not proud of many things the Clinton campaign did or said during the campaign. Many of the things the Obama campaign said made me cringe. But you know what is WORSE? Voting Republican. Because no matter how bad you think the things coming from Democrats might be, the Republicans are more vile, more evil and more deceiptful than you could possibly imagine. So, respectfully, I decline your request to "shut up" as I obviously have every right to voice my opinion, as do all Republicans/Pumas like yourself.

RT, voting your conscience is certainly your choice as an American. I disagree -- I am an ardent supporter of HRC. She's been a champion for the Democratic party and the people of this country for many years. And now, with her, I am proudly going to support Obama as I think he's a good man who will work hard for this country.

I bet plenty of you Republicans and Puma members are truly disappointed. There is a united Democratic Party that will not only lead our country through Obama's two terms but also Hillary's two terms! 16 years of change! YES WE CAN! OBAMA/BIDEN/HILLARY 08-24

jules- I have been following political campaigns for a long time now. What is infinitely worse is selling out your country for your party.
I can deal with McCain. I cannot deal with the fraud that is Obama, the man that the Democratic Party threw away all its principles for.
PUMA!

What the heck is PUMA?

I am confused LeeLee, what "fraud" has Obama committed again? If you could be specific, provide verified details and not throw out random generalizations or campaign rhetoric and/or the typical Republican party talking points that would be helpful.

" bet plenty of you Republicans and Puma members are truly disappointed."
Not really - we already knew that the DNC had rigged this whole thing to favor Obama.
We have been saying for months now that we will vote for the better man, John McCain, and we will.
PUMA!

jules - Obama, himself, is the fraud. A man based on a hot, mess of lies. You already know the score, so there is no need to debate what we both know. There is no "mind-changing" here.
PUMA!

It is clear that the DNC is corrupt and with this roll-call, they have sounded the death-knell for Obama.
We will not forget and we will vote accordingly.

Loren, some posters here claim they are "Democrats" who will vote for John McCain ("P-arty U-nity M-y A-ss) but in reality, a PUMA is most likely a Republican who is pretending to be a scorned Hillary supporter to try to make Obama look bad.

Earlier in the day, Clinton formally released her delegates amid shouts of "no," by disappointed supporters. "She doesn't have the right to release us," said Massachusetts delegate Nancy Saboori. "We're not little kids to be told what to do in a half-hour."
What a moron. Vote for the tooth fairy if you want to.
Her supporters are the biggest pack of morons I have ever seen in 55 years of watching presidential politics.
What did they expect? A fight on the convention floor? Over what? He had more delegates.

THE RNC has a fantasy that women who are disappointed that Clinton didnt win are going to actually vote for the candidate who is on record as being intended to choose judges on the basis of their adherence to fundamentalist principles, and who himself has put forward a heathcare plan designed to rape the public, by requiring anyone with existing issues to re-apply for a new policy at much higher rates. Her main issues is healthcare. McCain's plan puts $10 billion extra in the pockets of the HMO's and rips off the elderly.

LeeLee, congratulations. You answered just as I thought you would. Just a bunch of rhetoric. Which lies? Oh, that's right, I know the score as you say. There aren't any -- the lying, the cover-ups, those are the specialties of the Bush administration and, yes, McCain's sentate career.
