Clinton Reminds Reporters of Popular Vote, Says There is No Doubt This is Obama's Convention
August 25, 2008 3:22 PM
ABC News' Eloise Harper Reports: Sen. Hillary Clinton, whose final argument to superdelegates in the last throes of her campaign was that she had won the popular vote, subtlety reminded reporters of that fact again on Monday.
"Remember: 18 million people voted for me - 18 million people, give or take, voted for Barack," Clinton said.
Still, Clinton has spend the first morning of the Democratic National Convention arguing that she is pushing for party unity. She responded to inquiries about whether she was stealing the limelight by saying, "There is no doubt in anyone's mind that this is Barack Obama's convention as it should be. And there is no doubt that what we are doing is tying to bring everybody together."
"It would have been the same way if I had won and Barack was here supporting the unity of the party," Clinton said. "This was a hard-fought campaign and there was a lot of intensity and passion associated with it in part because of the historic nature of our two candidacies."
Clinton also defended having a roll call vote at this convention, saying that was the norm. "We are doing what is traditionally done. We're following the traditions of a party convention where Senator Obama and I and our campaigns agreed that we would both be put in nomination, which is a sign of respect and recognition for both of our candidacies - there will be, as there has traditionally been, a roll call vote."
Turning to the vice presidential selection process, Clinton did not say whether she thought she was given the proper respect, instead praising Obama's pick, Senator Joe Biden.
"I am very pleased in the outcome of the process I am a great admirer of Joe Biden," Clinton said. "I've worked with Joe. I know him well. I think he will serve Senator Obama well in his campaign. He will bring a level of real intensity to the campaign trail and he will be a great vice president. He has a wealth of knowledge and understanding of the world."
Clinton was also asked if it was true she would run for election again, as Governor Ed Rendell stated yesterday. Clinton did not say whether or not she was planning a run and denied ever saying that. "I've never said that," she said. "I really appreciate the strong support that I have received from a lot of people who worked hard for me but I am intent upon making sure that I have a Democratic president to work with in the Senate."
As for reports of bickering between her and Obama's camps, Clinton said that they have a "very good working relationship." Clinton was also asked what more she could do to bring her supporters over to Obama and simply said, "I don't know. I'm doing everything I can possibly do."

just as a previous writer wrote, I don't believe that if this were the other way around Obama would be encourageing his 98% if black voters to vote for Hillary. She does not owe Obama anything, if anyone owes anyone anything he's the one that owes her. Obama just does not deserve to be president and I don't think people should be voting for him. This is a more serious situation than the celebrities and college and high schoool students should have so much influence over. I am a democrat but will pull the lever for McCain and hope that enough Americans join me in this venture to get McCain elected. It just hurts to watch young people who have had more experience voting for American Idol than voting for president with be part of the decison making process for choosing the president of the US. The rest of most of their time is spent playing video games and eating juck food. Nowhere else in the world do adults abdicate to their children such important tasks as this. In most countires that I've visited, children know thier place until they have actually gained enough experience have a role in the countries most important business. Only in America!

Tim,
Calling people racist will not make them change their minds about Obama. Some people may have white guilt and so they think voting for Obama will help but in reality if Obama was elected and he screwed up the country due to his lack of experience and judgment, it would make black people worse off. Not to mention that all he does is talk down to black people.

First Debra, your post above is offensive and disgusting. Second, Barack Obama is as much white as he is black. You need to do some serious soul searching as to why you beleive only 100% white Americans should serve as president. You being a 100% white person, are an embarassement - and what most would call racist. You tend to forget that black Americans pulled together to vote in Bill Clinton twice as president and Hillary twice as Senator. I would say that black Americans have done as much for the Clintons as the Clintons have done for them and they are pretty even.

Debra--I hate to break this to you, but we have *already* suffered through eight years of withering incompetence from a "mindless monkey-eared boy," and the economy is already IN a recession, because he sent it there. (Oh, and not that it matters, but W. was white.)

To all of you former Hillary Supporters who are for McCain. Do Whatever You Like...But do not complain if McCain isn't all what he claims to BE. I'm a Republican who's voting Obama/Biden '08 because my brother is fighting in Afganistan on his 3rd tour and I feel betryaed by the Bush Administration
Posted by: Just Twan | Aug 25, 2008 4:05:45 PM
Why do you think Obama should not be president?
Lack of experience?? He has more than Bush did?
Because of some baggage... Lets see... they all have really bad baggage. Some more than others. I am getting why some of you are sooooo against Obama.
His policies and plans are for you and you only unless you are one of the top 15% of the very wealthy in the US.
Someone please answer this question for me...

I feel sorry for you Obama supporters who call the Democrats who are voting for McCain, faux democrats or say that we were never real democrats. You clearly cannot think for your self.
I have voted for Democrats my entire life. Does that make me a democrat, I guess not. I am educated and an independent thinker. I will not vote for a Democrat just because they are a democrat. I vote on experience and judgment and Obama has neither. I don't even know where he stands on the issues because in the short time he has been in the senate, he has constantly changed his positions to further his political career.
I am an independent thinker who has voted for Democrats until this year. This year I will vote for McCain.

Beck,
Obama was only in the senate for 1 year when he started to run for president. He voted "present" on over 100 of the issues while in the senate. He has changed his positions so many times that no one really knows where he stands. He has more corrupt ties than anyone in Washington and he is brand new to politics.
He knows he is not qualified for the job of President and said so himself in 2004. He is running on his judgment since he has no experience but his judgment is really poor (Ayers, Rezko, Wright, the surge, Russia, wire tapping etc...).
I find Obama to be arrogant, corrupt and grossly under-qualified therefore I will not vote for him.
Democrat for McCain

I guess these "Hillary Supporters for McCain" actually think they matter right now. Just like the Clinton's, these supporter's obviously have ego's that blind them from reality. Even with all the energy they are spending on anti-Obama ways, he still has the edge in the polls. WITHOUT YOU!!!This process moves on with or w/out you, time doesnt stop because you are withholding your support. Oh yea, by the way, if Barack loses and the Clinton's are blamed...Out of the 98 percent African American's that favor Barack, and the new voters that are brought in that favor him; how much of that support do you think will go to Clinton? It is just going to be the same situation with his supporters as it is with hers, only times 10. Which would lead to a Republican President for the next 12 or so years. If you arent going to vote for Obama, okay, just shut the heck up; nobody cares, he'll win anyway...Open your mouth when McCain takes a lead in any poll...

Seems to me this is the result of the cult of white guilt that has been force feed upon the last 40 years of school children. If everything that is wrong with the world is because of white people then the logical outcome of such thinking is to put a minority in power. Whites think that by putting Obama in power it will finally "prove" white people are not racists anymore and all our race problems will be solved. They're in for a real shock when negros still act like negros.

There must be a second sunny posting here - sounds more like "debra". I am not a racist but I do believe she is. I will now post sunny in tulsa.

I know it is hard for Mrs Clinton and her supporters to forget about the process but frankly speaking Barack Obama was not the cause of mrs Clinton defeat or set backs it was her own poor lack of judgment and her own inability to stop the infighting in her camp, she made a poor judgment about florida and michingan from the start when she said their vote will not count, but if there is any one to blame she has to blame her chief strategist Mr Mark Penn who could not identify which states holds primary and which states holds cucurses, but this convention is not about Obama is about the democratic party which Hilary is a memeber if she chooses to spoil the convention then she has spoil her own political carrier if her supporter thinks that America is on a right course for the past eight years then they should go and vote fo Mccain but those same supporters should know that Mrs Clinton did not came into this race thinking that the republican and Mccain has done any thing better for the last eight years

Debra#1, you will totally abandon what Hillary fought for if you vote for McCain! Why oh why would you do that? Do you really want another Bush term? Do you want troops in Iraq for 100 years? Do you want the draft reistated?Do you want big oil determining our nation's future?
Posted by: Hoo-Ahh! | Aug 25, 2008 4:19:57 PM
That is racist. Everything is racist.
What, you said something about a black hole in the atmosphere, that is racist!

That's right Hillary... keep reminding everybody about all the votes you got. Right now Obama is not getting about 22% of Clinton voters. If he picked her, he would be losing 50% of his supporters, so he is doing ok. What I think is really pathetic is that John McCain needs Hillary supporters to win the election.
HEYYYYYYYYYYY get your own votes.
