Lieberman to Speak at GOP Convention
August 20, 2008 10:45 AM
ABC News' Karen Travers and Nitya Venkataraman Report: The McCain campaign confirms that erstwhile Democrat Sen. Joe Lieberman, Ind-Conn, will be speaking Monday night at the Republican National Convention in St. Paul.
Lieberman, who was the Democratic vice presidential candidate in 2000, speaks from the GOP stage the same night as his former rivals President Bush and Vice President Cheney. Also scheduled for Monday night speaking time are California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and First Lady Laura Bush.
Lieberman, whose name has been floated in the GOP vice presidential pool, is one of the Republican nominee's closest allies in the Senate and has taken considerable heat from Democrats for crossing party lines to campaign for Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.
The overall theme of the convention will be "Country First", each night highlighting a theme of service, reform, prosperity and peace.
Under Tuesday night's "Reform" umbrella, two of McCain's 2008 party rivals will take the stage: Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.
Wednesday night's theme is "Prosperity". The keynote will be delivered by the Republican vice presidential nominee, a selection yet-to-be announced by the McCain campaign. Cindy McCain, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal are all also slated to speak.
On Thursday, McCain officially accepts the Republican nomination in prime time -- speakers include Minnesota Gov. Tim Palwenty, Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, Kansas Sen. Sam Brownback and Florida Sen. Mel Martinez.

I think Ex-Senator Graham should speak. He could go in to so much detail about how whiney and stupid, the American public is. It should be easy to get him to go. He's back working for McCain, so I guess McCain must agree with him.

Will Charles Keating speak on Mr. McCain's behalf as well?

As a CT resident, if McCain wins, I'll be thrilled if he takes Joe with him.

Gee...I wonder how many of you Lieberman critics were singing his praises when Gore picked him to run in 2000 ?? What a bunch of hypocrites. Lieberman is just proof that it's never too late to come to your senses. Oh and to Deep Release | Aug 20, 2008 11:01:01 AM....Maybe Obama should have Tony Rezko speak at the Deomcrat Convention via live feed from JAIL !!

If Lieberman is on the ticket, I will vote Republican for the 1st time in my life.

That Judas goat. Imagine CT voters' surprise to see this hack glibly supporting McCain. Not quite what they had in mind, I imagine.

McCain will leas us to victory over Russia! We can finally put the nail in their coffin. McCain and Liberman have the courage to use nuclear missles to defeat the evil on earth. They will defeat all evil, we just need to build our army up to confront the evil Chinese after we defeat Russia! Let Freedom Ring!
We can defeat the non-Christians if all work together to first defeat the evil liberals and Barack Obama! Take up arms and conquer! Amen. God Bless America! And Don't mess with Texas!

Commissar Nancy Pelossi and her Generals forced Joe Lieberman out of the Democrat Party because he would not compromise his integrity and crater to her imposed, often extreme views. Lieberman would not be a good match for McCain because they have similar strengths. But Lieberman does have something too often lacking on both sides of the aisle, character and integrity. If the Republicans win, Lieberman should hold a position in the administration consistent with his strengths. He would be a person with character whose word and ethics voters can trust.

Watching the GOP convention will probably be boring. I prefer to watch the train wreck occuring in the Democratic party right now.

Ah there is nothing that the DNC hates more than to have an American stand up for themselves and not blindly and mindlessly follow their lead.

I am surprised McCain does not pick Sean Hannity for VP. He has all the correct answers to heal the earth of the evil liberalism! He also has hair much like Reagan's which would help him win. Come McCain kick some liberal butt! Amen!

Kind of interesting - pro gay, pro abortion rights. Will his address be before the party platform is presented to the convention or after? But seeing as how the military has been used in this campaign by McCain might as well have Lieberman speak on behalf of the Israel position in the middle-east (I dare say he won't invoke the name of Jimmy Carter, but Judas turning against Christ is nothing compared to Lieberman's wagging the tail of the dog and forgetting what his former party people have done.) Lieberman speaking at the Republican convention - good. That'll make the Democrats turn out in more droves.

McCain can have Lieberman. He is probably the reason Gore lost in 2000. Go for it!!

We have to take over Russia's oil fields liek we took over Iraq's oil. This is the start of WWIII. We have to first control all the power before China does. We just need to draft our children to fight against the evil Islamo facist and evil Russian empire. On our way to Russia we need to eliminate the liberals in Europe. We can do this if we stick together. McCain will be the perfect war president because he is not afraid of anything. Plus our manufacturing will increase with the need of more tanks and Hummers. The Dems are not willing to sacrifice our children for liberty and freedom.
