McCain Mail Threat Suspect Charged
August 22, 2008 6:23 PM
ABC News' Jack Date Reports: Marc Harold Ramsey, the man investigators believe was responsible for mailing a package containing a suspicious powder to the Denver office of Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain, will face charges of mailing threatening communications, according to a criminal complaint filed in federal court in Denver, earlier today.
The powder was determined to be non-hazardous and non-lethal.
Ramsey allegedly mailed the suspicious package from the Arapahoe County Sheriff's detention facility, where he has been held since last September on allegations of felony menacing, harassment and felony second degree assault on a peace officer, the complaint says.
According to the complaint, Ramsey admitted to mailing the letter, when interviewed by Arapahoe County Sheriff's Detective William Gallegos and U.S. Postal Inspector Luis Castrillion, both members of the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force.
The package contained a letter addressed to Senator McCain which said, "IF you are reading this then you are already Dead! Unless of course you can't or don't breathe." The letter closes with "You're out of time Allahu Akbar," according to the complaint.
Though the letter was signed "Akeem Ramsey El," Ramsey apparently made no effort to hide his identity, including his return address at the Arapahoe County Detention Facility, with his correct name, "Marc Ramsey" and his jail ID number "07-13160."
Ramsey told investigators that his father "was in Vietnam during the same time as Senator McCain and that the government takes care of Senator McCain but hot his father who suffers from agent orange," according to the complaint.
The complaint states the letter was opened by the office manager at McCain's Denver campaign office, at which point a white powder fell out of the package onto her pant leg.
The office manager saw the first threatening line of the letter and immediately notified the political director and a staff member. The three drove themselves to the Sky Ridge Medical Emergency Room to be decontaminated.
19 people in all were decontaminated due to the suspicious powder.

Maybe this jerk hasn't read the history books. John McCain refused help to stay with his men. I'm sure NO'bama will spin this with a cheap shot. I hate liberals.

Idiots. Of course it was phoney.

mccain votes for torture and against veteran benefits.
he continues cashing his social security, though, of course.

They can kill you with undetectable amounts of deadly powder placed anywhere. What are you going to do spend your life in the ER? Man how people overreact.

1)Almost all of them were offered the same deal and refused, he is not special and he is not in any "history books".
2)Show me one link where Obama does what you accuse him of? Don't worry, I won't wait cause we both know it's not going to happen.
3)Why do you neocon's have so much hate for anything that doesn't march in goose step with your ideology. You are like children who wish their parents dead when they don't get ice cream, pathetic.

Note to Ken Stepp: Your thought processes seem very murky. By the way, how was *your* military career?

Do John McCain or conservative republicans respect the moral foundations of this country? The U.S. Constitution was designed to protect the people of America from misguided government.
U.S. Constitution: Amendment I - Freedom of Religion
Right now, for the first time ever, your tax dollars are funding religious groups you may not agree with. To add insult to injury, conservative judges have ruled that taxpayers do not have a right to challenge this expenditure.
Amendment IV - Search and seizure
Under the guise of court action against abortion, Conservative republicans had John Ashcroft subpoena all the medical records of literally thousands of women just like you and members of your family. Conservative republicans are invading your privacy every day. Unfortunately for all of us, they don't appear to care about our U.S. constitution, or by extension, the people of our great country.
Amendment X - Powers of the States and People
John McCain and conservative republicans have tried consistently to overturn States Laws. They used your tax dollars to destroy the will of the people of Oregon, and the famous "Death with Dignity" law; they lost, but undoubtedly will try again. Conservative republicans and John McCain do not respect States Rights.
Amendment VIII - Cruel and Unusual punishment
Would you rather die, or support a government which supported and sanctioned torture? The founding fathers would rather have died, and in fact they were proud to fight and die for our government: A government which specifically outlaws cruel and unusual punishment for very important reasons.
John McCain and the conservative republicans have destroyed the moral foundations of our country. I urge you to keep this in mind in the coming election as we rebuild our nation together by voting Democrat.

Yes, McCain was real noble when it came to the code of honor between him and his fellow captors. It's just too bad that the marriage vows between him and his first wife weren't as important.

Ken,
You are the only one attempting to spin this as anything other than a sick act perpetrated against innocent office workers by an obviously disturbed individual. Or should I blame the anthrax attacks of 2001 against the so-called "liberal" media and two Democratic senators on you right wing neo-cons? How about another righty loser shooting people in a "liberal" church filled with children because some Republican businessman fired him?
Guess it only hurts when the shoe is on the other foot. When it happens to those you hate it must be a real laugh for you. Values voters? Puh-leeze!
Posted by: Gavrielle LaPoste | Aug 22, 2008 7:28:13 PM
Steppe is out of step....with reality. The moron has absolutely no knowledge as to whether the jerk who sent the powder is a liberal, a neocon or just someone with a perverted sense of what's funny. In fact, judging from his mindless hatred, he probably has more in common with Ramsey than against him.
Posted by: thorninurside | Aug 22, 2008 7:29:33 PM
Ken, from what I've read John sang like a canary shortly after being captured, and was isolated from other prisoners for most of the time he was in Viet Nam. Some have wondered why he was the heaviest POW to return to the States, but since McCain successfully had all of the POW debriefings sealed, we'll probably never know the truth. There's a good chance McCain even made propaganda films for them, but those were either destroyed or hidden away. Perhaps their destruction was part of the quid pro quo for McCain to push for the dropping of all sanctions against Nam.
BTW, think again if you believe that McCain was doing anything special by refusing to come home earlier than the other POWs; it's part of the military code. He would have been persona non Grata had he accepted, both in the military and in his family. He had no choice but to stay until the others were also released.

ObamaOsama, do you really expect anyone other than your fellow Klan members to take you seriously, I mean really.
Posted by: Nathan | Aug 22, 2008 7:31:39 PM
Some of you are as bad as the convict sending death threats. You feel like appropriate comments about someone doing that are to spin more lies and hate about Senator McCain?
Javalation and Mike, you have heard a lot of hateful propaganda. Go read some reputable sources about Senator McCain. I don't care whether you vote for him or not, but don't propagate lies.
Posted by: Anna | Aug 22, 2008 7:40:48 PM
True Patriot,
Glad to see the left wing embracing the tenth amendment. Of course you probably wouldn't like it to apply to say abortion, i.e. let each state decide. Or perhaps the environment, social security, medicare, OSHA etc. I am pretty sure the constitution doesn't say anything about any of the above items. Of course many in the south will cheer your states rights argument, just as they have since the mid 1800's.
Posted by: Ajax | Aug 22, 2008 7:42:35 PM
Only a true idiot would use the deranged rants of an obviously disturbed individual to further a partisan agenda. Can you not imagine how insanely frightened those campaign workers were?
Yeah, you uber-libs are just overflowing with class and empathy.
Pathetic.

mccain stayed in nam because he was more afraid of the flight crew on the carrier than he was of the vietnamese--one of the worst pilots the navy ever had.
Posted by: rodney | Aug 22, 2008 8:05:06 PM
Anna, There have been a lot more lies told about Obama than about all the Republican candidates that ran for the nomination combined. Even McCain keeps telling lies about him. The right can't win the battle of ideas, so the smear the names of true war hero's like Max Cleland, and John Kerry. Personally I think we (the progressives) fight fire with water, ie: lies with truth

Posted by: rodney | Aug 22, 2008 8:13:51 PM
Andrew,
Can you please elaborate on what you believe is the battle of ideas? Mine are pretty simple - Christian values - Pro-Life, Less Government, Strong Military (Freedom isn't Free), and Capitalism.
What are your views? Truth? I can't think of anything more true than faith.
Posted by: Steve | Aug 22, 2008 8:15:02 PM
The names are Barack Obama and John McCain. I'm sick of the extremists on the right and the left constantly belittling our candidates. If you don't like America leave. If you don't like McCain vote for Obama and if you don't like Obama vote for McCain. When you'll call Obama Osama you denigrate America. Why'll most of the sick people are on the extreme right this election, they employ the same end justifies the means as the extreme left does. We in the middle need to demand civility in this country and stop the denigration of America in this election.

And speaking of anthrax letters its such a coincidence that guy who was the sole individual responsible for the antrahx letters committed suicide. no loose ends! america f*ckyah!

I am an independent voter and like to look at the candidates ideas in a civilized manner.
It strikes me that these comments from our left leaning posters are quite low on logic and reasoning.
Is there something about being a liberal that reduces IQ?
Posted by: Will Davis | Aug 22, 2008 8:42:39 PM
Steve, Pro Life yet you will execute people. We all have family values. I love my family even if some of them are gay. This myth that less government is better is just that. Look how well FEMA ran under Clinton. Even as bad as they responded to Katrina, the Gov. still did some good. Government is more than protecting your right to bear arms. What we are operating on right now is predatory capitalism. Some of that thanks to Clinton (deregulation). We need to operate under capitalism. I was in the military unlike most Republicans. Freedom isn't free, but also those who give up liberties for security deserve neither. B. Franklin
As for Christian values. Those are mostly not practiced by Christians today. Torturing your enemies is not Christian. Oh, and Steve show me besides the bible where Jesus Christ is mentioned. There is no historical record of Jesus Christ. Thats what makes this country so great. I don't have to believe in Jesus Christ as the savior. A lot of the founding father didn't. They were Dieist.

Anna, almost everything that I posted is on the record. Since you didn't question any specifics, you must be a typical Republican who wants to paint your guy as a saint while hurling every innuendo imaginable at your opponent. If you aren't aware of any of the specifics of my post, let me know I'll try to give you an education. Search for Viet Nam vets against McCain; it's a good start.

Yawn. Look at the stupid humans argue over petty nuances. I shall make money selling both sides supplies for the silly wars that I instigate, then I will buy out their leaders. In the mean time I'm enjoying sexual gratification from all your religious gods and spiritual charlatans.

The maturity on this forum is seriously lacking. Many of you need to stick to the topic at hand and keep the childish comments to yourselves.
As far as the letters/package goes, it is glad to hear that the people were not in danger and the source of the packages have been identified.

Mike's problem is that drinking that Republican kool-aid causes a second childhood. He can't debate with reasonable thought or facts, so he hurls insults as he did in the fourth grade. He imagines that somehow that makes him appear tough when actually it just makes him appear like someone who has no self control, like his bellicose hero, John McNasty, as he was called in high school. Ol John has so little self control that he once called his second wife the "C" word in public. He's also threatened other Senators and foreign dignitaries when they didn't say what he thought they should say. Having him as President could have us in a couple of more wars fast. He's joked about bombing Iran, and was ready to go to the next level against Russia recently and he's not even the decider. God help us if he does get a third Bush term. He's even worse.
Posted by: Javalation | Aug 22, 2008 9:55:21 PM
Vote for McCain if you want to criminalize abortion, love war, and want to help big energy gain total control over our future. McCain has a long history of aiding big energy. Once he even had Native Americans evicted from their reservation so his buddies in a big coal company could get at those mineral rights. So what if some of those Indians dies from the expulsion. They were just wasting the land anyway. John knows how to exploit things.

how truly sad, tragic, and pathetic some of you are. why so bitter, vile, and angry? as a hillary supporter i still have not made up my mind who to vote for, if at all, but reading posts like this by obama supporters sure makes the job easier. i just figure if this is the hope, and change, obama speaks of, and if this is what he inspires in you (his supporters) i want nothing to do with it. goodnight.

john good call- a little civility i agree.

Steve you mention that one of the attributes you look for in our government is “Less Government”. Like you and many Americans I’m for “Less Government” but the Republicans are not. I could list numerous issues, more than I have time for where they have created more government and have continuously stuck their nose into things that are none of governments business. So to state Republicans are about less government is simply not true. Can you tell me one thing in eight years of the Bush administration that has to do with less government? I’m not pro any of these crooks but will probably vote McCain. I thought about not voting but Americans fought and died for the right, so that’s not an option for me due to my values. The Republicans are not about “Less Government” that is just another lie!

Either this poor excuse of a man is totally nuts. or he thought the authorities would believe him to be and remove him from jail to put him in a hospital. Apparently History isn't his forte, because Ronald Reagan closed those hospitals long ago to put the nut cases in jail.
