Obama Camp on Bill Clinton's Big Speech: What, Me Worry?
August 27, 2008 10:17 AM
ABC News' Sunlen Miller reports: One Clinton down, one to go. Barack Obama's campaign insists they're not concerned about former President Bill Clinton's Wednesday address to the Democratic National Convention.
"We're not nervous at all," Obama advisor Anita Dunn said on a conference call Wednesday morning. "We're excited about President Clinton's speech because we think it's going to be a really electric moment in the convention hall when he gets up to speak."
If the Obama camp can properly channel that electricity, as they and the Clinton forces seemed to do on Tuesday, the former president's speech could be a classic convention moment; if not, it could quickly turn into another sign of disunity in the fragile peace between the still-presumptive Democratic nominee and his defeated foe and her supporters.
Dunn says there is no concern on their part that the former president will get a negative greeting by some Obama supporters still healing their wounds from the primary campaign.
"We believe he will be warmly received and enthusiastically revived by the entire convention," Dunn said.
Clinton remains in an elite club -- he's one of only two living Democratic presidents and the only member of the party to win the White House twice since President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Obama spokesman Bill Burton did not give much of a preview of Clinton's speech but said, "(Clinton) knows the challenges and choices that face our chief executive. He'll talk about why Barack Obama is the right person to lead America right now, and why Sen. McCain's promises are more of the same and the wrong choice for America."
The week prior to the convention in Denver, Obama and Clinton had a phone conversation about his speech.
"I said, 'Mr. President, you can say whatever you'd like,'" Obama told reporters, recalling the phone conversation.

Bill Clinton is a smart cookie and knows that the American public will see through this "selling an image". It's not going to work. Yes some will be hypnotized into believing that is what the advertising is suppose to do.
Another image coming folks (advertising and selling is big business) for the American Public to convince them that Obama is great. Mr. Obama is going to give his speech on Thursday in front of a Greek Column sort of exactly the same as the Greek column shown here in the Star Track movie…hmmm. You know Apollo in this fiction episode promised “hope” and “peace”, tranquility and happiness as long as everyone followed him.

As a hardcore Hillary supporter and former PUMA, she did a great job for America and Obama last night. I am now behind him 100%.
What I got from Hillary and to others holding back is lets move on with Obama, the alternative is to be irrelevent or register republican.

"Senator McCain? This is the Oval Office. That's the bathroom. Did you forget?"

According to Jamie Allman on 97.1 radio in St. Louis, who is in Denver and covering the convention, what the cameras did not reveal at the convention was the number of Hillary supporters who walked out when Michelle Obama was speaking on Monday night. The MSM reporters keep interviewing these people who all chant unity, but Allman has interviewed Clinton delegates off the record who say the party is NOT united, and they will not vote for Obama in November. The MSM is trying to make the news, not report the news. They want Obama to win, and they are tailoring their coverage to make it appear that his success is inevitable. This is the underlying message the MSM is trying to send to Americans: BARACK OBAMA WILL WIN THIS ELECTION. IF YOU DON’T SUPPORT HIM, DON’T GO TO THE POLLS BECAUSE YOU’RE WASTING YOUR TIME. HIS VICTORY IS INEVITABLE. The media in this country is pathetic. The people at MSNBC are Obama-hores. No wonder they're losing viewers.

Dear American Citizens and the mass media of U.S.A.
As a concerned disabled American Veteran and American citizen, I consider it my duty and responsibility to bring following critical characteristics of so called Maverick McCain to you for proving me wrong or right.
"The citizens of the United States of America have the ultimate responsibility to elect the " Right Candidate with the right temperament" to lead our nation' to address our nations present and future moral, democratic, economic, educational, health care, energy, military, and foundational soul of our nation.
In my firm professional opinion that the media should help the common voter to explore and discuss following attributes of Hon. Senator McCain.
1. Does he have a calm, cool, and collected " temper " [ Presidential Temperament ]?
2. Does he have a sound and sustained "Judgment and Caliber"?
3. Does he have a reveal a presidential "Thought-fullness and togetherness" of purpose and positions?
4. Does he lot or little "ex-poser and exploitation" around Washington"?
5. Does he poses enough " Vigor, wisdom and Vision " for our Great-grand Nation?
6. Does he poses foreign policy exploit-es based on " American Values, Virtuous, Vastness"?
7. Does his campaign talk. slogans and ads are based of facts and free of fiction, deception, seduction, and attacks?
If your answer to the above questions is yes then recommend and vote for him.
But in my professional. political, and personal opinion that vote is against the common interests majority of American people, against the world humanity, continuation of status qua and possibly dangerous world order.
Long live U.S.A and its democratic people and their common sense.
COL.. A.M. Khajawall [Ret] MD., Colonel, USAR / MC Combat Stress Control[Ret], Disabled American Veteran and Iraq Freedom team.
PS: Please google McCain and temper read what his senator colleagues and others are saying about it.

Hillary didn't change any minds. There are people who are still resentful of the way things turned out. She might have thrown her support to him, but that doesn't compel anyone to change their vote. One thing you can be certain of - Bill Clinton is still smarting from the race card thrown at him. He has never been known to "forgive and forget." BHO has everything to worry about. It is telling that Clinton will not be present when BHO is crowned amidst the Greek Temple (cheesy) setting. When you look up the word egotist, you'll find BHO's face. Enough said.

I loved hillary's speech last night. She is a gifted speaker. I am not an Obama fan, but I will probably end up voting for him. The ads the republicans are using are making me sick. I am not sure what bill will do but that shouldnt reflect on Hillary. she is her own person. I like Bill and if he dosent want to support Obama that is is right, but Hillary does support Obama and she was the person I was voting for so I will likely take her advice no matter how the repbulicans try to spin it saying she really doesnt want him to win or how fellow upset hillary voters also try to spin it. She is in it for him to win it. The ads over the next week will come fast and hard from republicans because McCain only has about a week left to use money he raised to campaign, then he has to spread out 85 million until nov. 4th.

One more thing - when this Ayers thing really hits the fan, everyone run for your lives because BO will do what it takes...

COL Khajawall - I'm beginning to think the Republicans were right about McCain eight years ago, when they tried to tell us this guy wasn't stable.

After Bill's "candidate x" and "candiate y" remarks yesterday, I would think the Obama camp would be a bit more worried.
Posted by: susie | Aug 27, 2008 10:54:05 AM
rachel - that may have been the best I've seen Clinton speak. It was well written and well delivered.
Posted by: Paul | Aug 27, 2008 10:54:24 AM
You go Andrea.
Hillary's speech was fantastic. I am still voting for McCain. It is truly sad that she was not the nominee. Michelle Obama looked like a deer in headlights.
Posted by: Samantha | Aug 27, 2008 10:57:18 AM
susie - you can't worry about what you can't change. Well, you can, but there's no point to it.
Bill Clinton will say what he's going to say, and Democrats across the country will do with those words what they will.
In the end, Kerry got 88 or 89 percent of the Democrats' votes. I'm guessing Obama will be below that but somewhere above the 80 percent that's showing up for him in polls now. So figure an 82-86 range; that might be as good a guess as any.
And that translates to 1-3 percent increase among voters in general. I do think the 4 percent figure thrown out by pundits yesterday is a little high and can't be mathematically supported.
Once again, this will come down to independents and GOTV operations.

Obama should remember he is asking to be president of the US not Mount Olympus. He should make himself one of the people not one of the Gods!

You'd think people would drop the "McCain is old" story line. Biden is only 6 years younger.
In fact, I wish everyone would drop the whole "7 houses" line. It's been overdone now. And McCain needs to drop the "I'm a POW" response to everything. We know it! So drop it.
