Obama: McCain's Race Charges 'Troublesome'
August 01, 2008 5:06 PM
ABC News' Teddy Davis and Sunlen Miller Report: Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., told NPR's "All Things Considered" on Friday that he finds Sen. John McCain's, R-Ariz., eagerness to level charges of racism "troublesome".
"[T]he way that they’ve amplified this, you know, has been troublesome," said Obama, referring to the McCain campaign's charge this week that Obama has been playing the "race card" "And the eagerness with which they’ve done it indicates they think they can exploit this politically."
Obama said McCain's charge that he played the "race card" is "ridiculous."
He also said that in "no ways" does he believe the McCain campaign has "targeted race issues."
During his interview with NPR's Michele Norris, Obama also defended his new proposal to force oil companies to share their record-breaking windfall profits for five years.
Earlier Friday, the Republican National Committee issued a missive to reporters arguing that a windfall profits tax is bad policy.
"It reduces domestic oil production, increases U.S. dependence on foreign oil, and harms consumers with increased energy costs" read the RNC's anti-Obama document.
When asked to defend his proposal on NPR, Obama acknowledged that most economists buy into the theory that you "don't meddle in the markets." The presumptive Democratic nominee added that he thinks the long-term solution to rising gas prices is to raise fuel efficiency standards and to spur the development of plug-in hybrids.
But in the short-run, Obama said that it is not "too much to ask" for oil companies to "give a little back" to make sure that "not just drivers but senior citizens on fixed income are going to have the ability to pay for heating this winter."
Starting at 7:00 pm ET on Friday, audio of the interview can be found here.

Obama's underhanded use of the race card against Hillary got him through the primaries full of liberals. But the broader electorate has seen this gutter politics played against anything and everything before (Republicans, racial preferences, welfare reform, immigration enforcement, etc.) and is inured to it. If everything is racist, then nothing is racist. Obama has been nominated based on the color of his skin and ability to read a teleprompter and has nothing else to offer America.

Barry can't believe that no Republican or McCain operative has actually played the race card to this point, so he decided to pretend they did anyway. He looks much smaller for his comments. He needs to present specific examples of McCain warning against voting for Obama because of his "funny name" or because he "doesn't look like other Presidents". Unless he can present proof of such comments from McCain or his surrogates, he should apologize.

"Obama is a race-obsessed. Okay... we get it... you're African-American."
Well that's what sitting in a racist chruch for 20 years will get you. I guess he must have taken those sermons to heart.

When are we going to hear the SECOND major speech on race??
Axelrobama, we need you to lecture us on race as we are all racists... help us!!
McCain 08
Hillary 12

Obama is always the first person to mention race and that he looks "different" from previous candidates. Then when his competition, either Hillary or Mccain call him out on trying to make race an issue, he turns it on them and implies that they are racist.
Obama is the one that is fanning the flames using the race card. I bet he thinks people are stupid.

The notion that this phony is facing someone who will not take the heat of his accusing his opponents what they are "GOING" to do, rather than they have done anything as HRC, Bill Clinton, Joe Biden, Ferraro, ... of the Democratic Party did is troublesome is a new demonstration of the notion that he is a true cry baby who does his race baiting and accuses people what they have not done to divert attention of his lack of substance.
His House Mommy will not save him in the general election, unlike the dems primaries to fish him out as an Affirmative Action candi.

In case if you are confused, that's how this phony used this tactic to confuse and deceive dems primaries.

This phony has absolutely no clue what a long term energy policy should be. He thinks that inflating your tires will solve the oil-dependence problem. He wants to plug-in, where is he going to get the electricity without using coals and natural gas since he has no courage, or the intelligent of comprehending, to propose the development of Nuclear Energy.
Nuclear Energy is the only clean, and essentially unlimited energy source in this Universe.

You don't want jobs moved to China and India? Have a plan on energy. China and India, each, will demand and use more energy in 10 years than the US. You are feeling squeezed now by gasoline prices, by that time, with 0bama's inflating-your-tire-fuel-efficiency-standard and the tactic of taxing the hell out of companies that make only 6% of profit margin, you will pay 3 times more.

Race became a "troublesome" issue when Obama first played it when he referred to his grandmother as "typical" white person. Obama is a loser!
Posted by: sandy | Aug 1, 2008 9:18:22 PM
I find it troublesome that Obama is continually talking about race, ridicules white people, and attended a racist cult for 20 years but cannot remember a single sermon.

As citizens who care about this country, we now have to do our own research around, rather than with, our media.
McCain did indeed put Obama's face on a bill in a web ad. And then he 'blew up' the image. As in explosion.
Crooks and Liars is noting that McCain played the race card from the bottom of the deck first with this web ad depicting Obama on a dollar bill.
This was the ad Obama was referring to earlier this week.
Yet Disney News wants to claim Obama is playing the 'race card,' And Since Disney News will never admit they are wrong, here's the link if they dare print this comment.

McCain is having fun playing us all for fools.

obama is an Arrogant, Radical FRAUD - and not qualified to lead our country.
That is the reason he will never be elected - has nothing to do with RACE.
How dare anyone say a negative comment about this glory-boy - or - not vote for him - you must be a racist -
Just STOP!
Maybe now would be a good time for obama to step aside - for the good of the party - and country.

Obammy is now shifting on offshore drilling and says he supports limited drilling...what an idiot! He just continues to flip flop, with no substance!

"Bush was so called qualified to be president, yet our nations economy is in turmoil."
Considering Bush inherited a recession (FACT dot.com bubble burst), and our economy was devistatingly crippled by 9-11...yet Bush brought the employment rate back to the levels Clinton used to brag about. In spite if your Democratic talking points, that sounds like pretty good stewardship of the economy.
Oh, now employment has been going down in the past year. Democrats took over Congress over a year ago. Coincidence? Hardly!

The swing vote in this election will not be Latinos, Independents, or any religious group.
The swing vote will be the Hillary supporters.
They know their candidate has one last shot...in 2012. And they know she can only run in four years if John McCain wins THIS election. He is only going to serve one term, he said.
So they are balancing their options. Do they stay loyal to the Party and vote Obama, or stick with her for the next election?
Thank you Ludacris, for pushing them to John McCain. After what you...Obama's main iPod man...said about her, the swing vote has swung.
That little rapper's song will be seen as the turning point in this election. Mark my words.
We Hillary supporters have spoken!
Congrats President McCain.

vicki, your words are perfect! And, I do not vote for Bush in 2000 or 2004, either. Guess the Obombs will have to think again!

Obama said that it is not "too much to ask" for oil companies to "give a little back"
===============
Does he not understand that, while earning a record $11+ billion in profits in the 2nd quarter, Exxon paid over $32 billion in federal taxes over the same period? I'd say they are giving MORE than "a little back" - wouldn't you?
Either Obama is completely ignorant, or is convinced any of his potential voters are - or both.
