Obama Texts Biden Pick to Supporters
August 23, 2008 3:25 AM
ABC News' Sunlen Miller Reports: Sen. Barack Obama has sent his vice presidential text message; were you awake to read it?
At 3:04am ET and just after midnight on the west coast, the Obama campaign sent the following message to anyone who signed up to find out who the presumptive Democratic nominee had picked:
"Barack has chosen Senator Joe Biden to be our VP nominee. Watch the first Obama-Biden rally live at 3pm ET on www.barackobama.com Spread the word!"
Alas, despite their best efforts to deliver the message directly to supporters, word leaked out throughout the night, with a number of media outlets reporting the Biden pick hours before the text alert.
Nonetheless, the Obama did likely gain thousands of emails and cell phone digits through the experiment. So it's probably a safe bet that if signed up to receive the alert that O will c u later.

Two smart guys vs more of the same.

As long as they grew their phone data base. Who cares...I'm a Hillary supporter who likes Biden and hates Obama. Elections are not won on VP choices, so Obama is still on his own here...the experience pit bull (who in his own words does not think Obama is ready) can't save him.
McCain '08!

Every time I've seen Senator Biden on some panel conducting a hearing, the guy looks and acts like he wants to tear someone's head off - very angry. And he has this seering look and way of speaking that he gets on his face when he is speaking to whomever they are grilling - scary. Not sure where that's coming from but makes you wonder what he's so unhappy about.
Good luck with all of that.

This will not win back the Hillary supporters. Obama will lose!
Posted by: amy | Aug 23, 2008 3:44:34 AM
Wow - they couldn't even properly organize something as simple as a VP announcement - and we're supposed to trust this gang with running the country? What a mess. I like Biden. He deserves to be at the top of the ticket far more than Obama. Affirmative action for POTUS is not a good idea.
Posted by: slick | Aug 23, 2008 3:45:21 AM
They had to get an attack dog in Biden, and fogot how well Hillary can do it...although not enough against Obama or they would be reamed. So glad McCain can go at it. I like Biden...too bad he's on a losing ticket...VP choice never determines an election.

yep, you can bet o will call you later, to hit you up for coin that is.

Mr. Coffee,
Regardless of how many times you and others attempt to smear John McCain by pretending it'll be the same as it was with Bush, it just wont stick. Anyone who has paid even a tiny bit of attention to politics over the past few decades knows that John McCain is a much different politician and man than GW Bush. Also, when you same "more of the same", do you mean the last two years of Pelosi/Reid controlled congress?
Posted by: slick | Aug 23, 2008 3:49:05 AM
What about the Clinton supporters. I voted for Clinton. He has lost my vote. What a fool. This will dog him, and he will lose on this.
Posted by: David | Aug 23, 2008 3:49:52 AM
I have liked Biden since watching him head the Watergate Hearings. He brings many great qualities. He can be tough, but he is also very likeable. Biden is also good with the working class. He also does not like McCain and knows his weak spots.
It will be a much more interesting campaign with Biden
Posted by: Jim | Aug 23, 2008 3:54:13 AM
McCain has a history of not getting along with Bush and I thought everyone knew that. I don't care just keep B. Hussein away from the White House.
Posted by: Debra | Aug 23, 2008 3:55:25 AM
Wow, it looks like the only ones losing sleep over Obama's choice are McCain supporters. That's telling.
Posted by: Mr. Coffee | Aug 23, 2008 3:57:35 AM
As somebody said: McCain has picked his running mate as well and he is GEORGE BUSH!
Posted by: Mr. Coffee | Aug 23, 2008 3:59:49 AM
Mr. Coffee....actually it's alot of pizzed off Hillary supporters...you know the ones that are defecting to McCain camp.
Posted by: Debra | Aug 23, 2008 4:00:19 AM
I see bumper stickers...Obama bin Biden now! Yeah.
Hillary supporter for McCain!

"Mr. Coffee....actually it's alot of pizzed off Hillary supporters...you know the ones that are defecting to McCain camp."
Debra:
I doubt it, the Hillary supporters who are defecting to McCain are too stupid to use a computer.
Posted by: Mr. Coffee | Aug 23, 2008 4:04:10 AM
McCain should select David Petraeus. The General vs. The Windbag!
Condi Rice would be a winning pick, too.
Posted by: McCain '08 | Aug 23, 2008 4:04:54 AM
Obama finally decided to get some creaky training wheels. Also, very classless of Obama to send the text message at 3am. He's on a losing mission.

Posted by: Debra | Aug 23, 2008 4:11:05 AM
I can't believe what I'm reading in these comments!
Republicans didn't even want McCain in 2000 when he was 8 years younger and up against a guy whose only experience was in making businesses lose money.
I like McCain, and certainly would have preferred him to Bush, but we should face facts people, our country has been weakened tremendously over the past 8 years of Republican rule.
Whether you supported the Iraq invasion or not, it, along with the secret prisons, torture, lack of diplomacy and response to Katrina has made us look like a third world country.
Rather than strengthening our position in the world the Republicans have made Iran stronger while making the dollar weaker.
Republican voters cling to the "higher taxes" scare tactic and want to make the Bush tax cuts permanent, but what good is a $600 rebate when increased gas prices have pushed the cost of everything sky-high? After all, it makes sense that people in the oil business would rather give you back 600 of your own money rather than have you stop buying their product.
The choice is clear in 08. Obama-Biden.
Posted by: Gary | Aug 23, 2008 4:14:40 AM
Obama you are too smart eh! If one sees things are not working as they are supposed to be, you just apply "THE SURGE"!
Biden will play a very big role on your part!
You deserve my donation and I will make it.

Hillary supporters it is time to get over it,and move on.She lost months ago.I am happy that Obama finally made his choice.I would have voted for Barack regardleSs of whom he picked for his VP.After the convention it is time to stop talking about Hillary.GET OVER IT!!!Hillary will not be on the ticket. So stop trying to make Barack put her on the ticket.

McCain 08'/Hillary 12'

Davis -- LOL, you're the fool here! It was barely announced and CNN already has a whole series of classic Biden snippets criticizing Obama. You can trust that we will be served an endless reel of these beautiful one-liners.
Do you really think he is going to convince Americans when he back pedals on all of that? It's just too good, too classic, the GOP 's could not have scripted it better. Both jokers will be dragged down the sewer when Obama is proven to be a fraud.
Posted by: decentAmerican | Aug 23, 2008 4:47:50 AM
Why are people so upset that the call was made at 3 AM? Couldn't you turn your silly cell phone off at night so you wouldn't be awakened? Why did you sign up to get the message if you didn't want to get it whenever it was sent out? You could have, like the wiser ones of us, waited to hear it on Good Morning America or read it right here on ABC at a more civilized hour of the day! How about we stop with the juvenile type name calling and rumors and lies and start being specific about what policies Obama and McCain have that we don't like or do like - you know, pretend we're grown ups for a change. If you're voting for McCain because Hillary didn't win the nomination, then you're probably against Obama because he's male or because he's black. Either way, your prejudice is showing. Tuck it in or suck it up.
Posted by: Kaelinda | Aug 23, 2008 5:15:13 AM
Obama is a clueless nitwit he had to wait until 3 am and then he picks a guy who cheats on his law exam and uses someone else's speech as his running mate.
I dont care if McCain picks Lieberman, Romney or Ridge.
The Democrats have the worst team since George McGovern in 1972.
And you know why they picked 3 am to make the announcement Because of that 3 am ad ran several months ago.

To all you Hillary supporters who are now voting for McCain. Please just go ahead. The rest of us know that you care only about yourselves, not about the American people who are hurting now. You don't care if I get health insurance, a job, a roof over my head, or if my child goes to college. You may have called yourself a Democrat before, but now you fit the mold of a classic Republican. Those of us who care about fixing the problems in this country are happy to see you go.

The Billary supporters like Debra and others are HYPOCRITES! In such a snit that Herself, "The Anointed One" lost that they are willing to completely abandon what HRC fought for. HRC has endorsed and campaigned for Obama. Get the message! HRC and Obama match up issue for issue, but none of that matters now to you HRC supporters? What about the issues she worked so hard and fought for? You are so worked up that she lost you are willing to throw all that under the bus and vote for McCain? Guess we know how committed you are to the issues! HYPOCRITES one and all. You don't give a damn about the positions HRC took all during the campaign.
Posted by: EdDoc | Aug 23, 2008 6:29:09 AM
Yea this is the spineless team that was probably organized before the primaries started to prevent Hillary from getting the nomination they dont care if they dont win! Neither did Dukakkis/bentsen, Gore/Lieberman, or Kerry/Edwards... all elitists that shouldnt drag the democratic party down... Obama was going to pick Edwards till all the stuff came out about him... seems as if democracy has crash landed in 2008!
Posted by: staniam | Aug 23, 2008 6:30:28 AM
I have to agree with Amy, who points out Obama and his minions couldn't even properly organize the VP announcement. We're supposed to trust this Gang Who Couldn't Shoot Straight with our government, and our lives? I'm not thinking that's such a great idea.
Posted by: beth | Aug 23, 2008 6:30:29 AM

Hillary and Obama dont match up issue for issue that is why he didnt pick her because she would make him look stupid and disingenous... please all you elitist professors or whatever you are line up and leave the country because you will have to when Obama loses!

the whole thing is they are running scared now and will now be under full assault and revolt from the traditional wings of the Democratic party.. I hate to see it like this but I predicted it in the spring! Maybe Obama can be president of Obamanation but not the United States of America!

there is truth to the fact that the republicans say that they have won the majority of the last presidential elections because they hav and the reason is we put up these candidates that are left of center when the center is the only place you can govern!
Posted by: Staniam | Aug 23, 2008 6:42:17 AM
One of the biggest problems in this country is that we give really stupid people the right to vote. It's not the republican McCain supporters i'm talking about - it's the so-called democrat Hillary supporters who are voting for McCain. No brains at all. When you think of what McCain stands for and the direction he will take this country if he's elected, you people are really, really stupid. It's not easy to undo the damage a McCain would do as president. It's not four years and out. You can't bring back the lives of all the kids killed in the wars he'll keep going and all the wars he'll start. A woman's right to choose, health insurance, the economy, all down the drain. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
Posted by: counting crows | Aug 23, 2008 7:00:35 AM
Counting crows I agree they are stupid for voting McCain but they are also feeling pretty disrespected. Alot of younger voters who did not see all of what Bill Clinton did for this country when he beat Bush disaster #1, seriously disrespect Bill's work and Hillary's as well. You just don't see the whole picture, you think you do but you don't. The Clintons are great Democrats. Yes voting for McCain however is very stupid as well, I will agree with you there. The Obama supporters claiming to be loyal Democrats attacking Hillary the way they do though need to realize they are rude and disrespectful and that they are the ones who caused her supporters to defect. Treat them with respect or people will go against anything and anyone you present, that is how crazy loyal Hillary supporters are to bother her and Bill. Dumb to vote for McCain, but you need to look at why and see there obviously is a serious loyalty to the Clintons for SOME reason. Read your history, Bill was awesome, still is, and so is Hillary. If you want to get her supporters on board, treat them with respect and stop your bashing.

As long as Barack feels good. Wire tapping, more faith based programs Obama is bush! Hillary don't campaign one more state for Obama after the convention, knock your speech out of the park then let Obama's chips fall where they may.

The Anti war nuts lose for sure with these two clowns.
Posted by: MLBS | Aug 23, 2008 7:39:49 AM
yeah baby! It's over now. Biden gives the Dems a pitbull, and takes the experience card away.
Now, McCain has to pick Romney. He picks Romney, the flip-flopper card goes away. All I care about is the economy. I don't want my kids entering the draft, and I want them to have a better life, and I can't afford to have rich people running the country that are out of touch with regular people.
Posted by: awmahn | Aug 23, 2008 7:41:19 AM

Those who are still supporting Hillary am afraid to say they do not understand what it means being in a competition.
In any competition there must be a winner and a loser.
Anyone who is civilised will accept the outcome and congratulate the winner and move on. But if you do the opposite, it will show, am sorry to say, a bit of ignorance!

To the "honorable" freshman Senator from Illinois, making his first, most important decision of a president is a game, a childish game. In the end, he is so happy, dining in his elitist 5* eating place, and then tell you: You Suckers, you really thought I'd care about texting you before you get the news, do you?
"I" got your emails, and money, and more money with more begging emails. You, the Suckers, got a good joke.

Dissapointing - nothing against Joe Biden but Obama blew it by not selecting Hillary. Many of her 18 million (including me) will NEVER vote for Obama now.
And how about Biden's remarks of last year that Obama was not ready to be President? Bet the GOP will have fun with that clip.
Hillary 2012!

Always the same American illness: not realizing that we need the world yet firmly believing the world needs us. For all of you living in the bubble, not being subjected to the embarrassment and ridicule by association of the past 8 years under the Crawford village idiot - as in being one of 6 Million US citizens outside the bubble - I can only say: you should be here, in Germany, in Great Britain, Japan, South Africa, Russia, all these countries who've known Joe Biden for many years and respect him as a worthy, capable, informed and non-ex cocaine & alcohol junky representative of the US people, to hear what is said in the news. Does global unified halleluyah ring a bell ?! Finally gravity, sense and sensitivity reenter the game. What an embarrassment over the past 8 years to have that incapable clown visit other countries and representing me against my will; to think that half my country consists of limited intellect claqueurs who'd want more of that under McCain; are you all out of your mind ? Obama is good for the planet, all you conservative flat earthers; don't you get it: we finally count our money at the gas pump, like the rest of the world has done for decades. We've reached normality and there's a lot more coming; next up is waste, waste of everything, our favorite past-time. Obama/Biden will finally return us to respected older brother status, away from junkyard bully status.

Why can't Obama stick to the issues? He needs to talk intelligently about the issues. He needs to hit hard on the issues and not get personal. He needs to stop the negative ads against McCain. This is the way to defeat McCain. not by stooping to his level.
Obama's image of someone who's going to "run a different kind of campaign" is crumbling.
If Obama is to win --- he should not let the world see the real truth about him: that he is without substance and is a ruthless and cruel politician.
If Obama doesn't change his campaign tactics, I will not vote for him. He needs to make good on his promises. He asked me "to believe" but I don't believe him anymore. He's a fake and a ruthless one at that.
He is going to loose.

you alienated them with your arrogance, diviseness and stupidity.

Isn't Biden that Moron that whose
Iraq solution was to divide the
country up into three sections making
it more vulnerable to invasion and
control by Iran?
Luckily the suggestion of John McCain
also known as "the surge" was followed
and the Iraq war is close to being won!
We will have an ally in the middle east

I cannot believe no one is making a stink over Biden's racist comment, as follows: “In Delaware, the largest growth of population is Indian Americans, moving from India. You cannot go to a 7/11 or a Dunkin’ Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent. I’m not joking.” I was torn between Obama and McCain, but now REFUSE to vote for this racist A-hole.
