Obama’s Broad Phone Conversations with Bill and Hillary
August 24, 2008 12:19 PM
ABC News' Sunlen Miller reports: Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., heading into the convention next week and coming off of choosing his vice president -- had phone conversations with both Bill and Hillary Clinton this week.
The presumptive Democratic nominee spoke at length with former President Clinton on Thursday afternoon.
"It was a broad, wide ranging conversation about what's going on in the country," Obama spokeswoman Jen Psaki said, insisting that he and the ex-commander in chief speak often.
During the time of their phone conversation, Obama had already made his mind up for his VP pick, but did not inform Clinton of his choice on the call.
Clinton speaks at the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday night.
On Friday morning, Obama called his former opponent, Sen. Clinton, D-N.Y.
Presumably, Clinton, who was on the long list of potential vice presidential picks, was informed then that Obama did not intend to choose her. But the Obama campaign refuses to characterize Clinton and Obama's phone conversation as a "courtesy call" to tell her she was not the choice for VP.
Obama had such conversations on Thursday with top contenders Sen. Evan Bayh and Gov. Tim Kaine.
"It was a broad conversation," Pskai said.

vanessa everybody expected us hillary supporters on board by the convention it didn't happen in fact i believe the opposite is true it strengthened our resolve even more so. and obama basically admitting that he needs somebody like mccain on his ticket (biden) for v.p somebody that is experienced, seasoned, insider, old timer. so why vote for a knock off version of mccain and cheney instead of the real mccain. that is the real question little loyal sister i have seen you on these blogs for as long as i can remember. regardless i'm delighted that obama has brought in and inspired young people whom i dearly love, and respect, for that i do give him credit. as always a loyal hillary supporter that in the end will honor the will of the people.

All you have here are the comments of 0bama's handlers. I would love to hear the Clinton's take.
Bill's speech will tell you all you need to know.

McCain ad featuring Clinton
In 2 seconds Hillary and Bill can counter this ad.
Simply state Obama doesn't speak for Hillary, and sure as hell McCain doesn't speak for Hillary, Hillary speaks for Hillary.
ONE campaign offered Senator Clinton a prime time platform to speak, would McCain like to offer her an EQUAL forum in his Convention?
and John...careful what you wish for

McCain is slimy. Am I the only one that thinks the ad about Hillary not being the VP is slimy? We all know McCain doesn't like or care about Hillary? I think it is disgusting that he would try to turn Hillary's historic campaign (and the emotions people felt during it) into a gimmick for votes.
Coupled with his attacks on Obama's character and patriotism, I can only say that I am disappointed.

"What does Biden bring to the ticket that Clinton did not?"
He's not a whiner. And Biden supporters aren't whiners.

I'm with Elizabeth here. And one great thing about the Obama/Biden presidency besides competent open candid government will be knowing that every time either one of them shows up in the media, it is going to be substantial, interesting, intelligent and it is going to resonate with loyalty to the planet and goodwill to all beings. This is just so rare and so needed. I am sorry that there are people who cannot see it because they won't get to enjoy as much alignment, gratitude, and partnership with it.

Yeah on CNN it said an AIDE told clinton she wasnt the pick and Obama called her later everyone else learned from Obama, that says a lot to me an awful lot. Its not about him having to take her its about having a little respect. Its funny and another lie coming from his camp I doubt he he speaks with bill often unless the covnerstaions go something like this
Obama: bill umm yeah umm want help a brother out?
Bill: hmmp hang up.

I voted for Hillary in the primary. But let's get real, her advisors have released emails on how to attack Obama. Bill committed gaffe after gaffe, and we all see how he can barely tolerate the fact that Obama won... he is a ticking time bomb. Hillary as veep? She can't control Bill, her advisors, or her voters (see above). Either that or she is working to make Obama lose. Her ego before America, that's what I'm seeing in these comments.
That being said, I voted for her b/c her health care plan is stellar. And I hope Obama puts her in charge of health care. He would be saying he is willing to compromise, and hand her the tools to change her #1 priority, creating a lasting legacy for the American people and herself.

Obama could not have vetted Hillary without her husband disclosing all his financial dealings. The Clintons did not want that!

""McCain to be swift boated?""
McCain already was 'swift boated' back in 2000 by Rove and others. Folks like Vietnam Veterans Against John McCain. Folks like those Republicans who claimed he had fathered a black child during an extra-marital affair. Republicans who said McCain had a short fuse and was mentally unstable after being imprisoned for 6 years.
Now McCain is playing in the cat box with them. Tsk, tsk.

""However, I also hope the best for her career. I would rather see her appointed to the Supreme Court or to become the head of the Senate. I honestly don't believe that she really wanted to be VP.""
Me too. She has the potential to become a great leader in the Senate or as a Supreme. But it would have been quite a drop for her to take being the VP to President Obama. Barack respected her enough not to even ask her.

People who site Limbaugh's Operation Chaos forget that it was Obama who encouraged the "Democrat for a Day" campaign through the primaries. Thats all they were, FOR THE DAY. They gave you the Obama nomination, now we will go on to elect McCain. Really, the DNC couldn't have been more stupid. Florida and Michigan don't count. Superdelegates siding with Obama were bought and paid for. Its the money people. Thats what drives politics these days. But the voter get the last laugh.

Hardly, just one who can string a conherent, intelligent thought together, stop embarrassing us around the world and stop taking orders from Big Business.
The bar has been low for far too long. It's time to raise it!

In 2016, Hillary will still be younger than John McShame is now.
And Biden is unlikely, at 73, to pursue the Presidency following Obama's second term.
So, yes, Hillary might yet be President some day.

Hilary supports, including some here, are going to vote for McCain because Hillary is not #1 or at least VP. How stupid is it to agree with a party platform and vote for the other party out of spite. Hillary and Obama have similar feelings about the issues, McCain and Obama don't! But you'll prove a lot to everyone by voting for McCain!
Obama won the nomination and chose his VP...thank goodness because I have a feeling Hillary was supported by a lot of Yahoooos.

Biden is the one guy the GOP didn't want to face (besides Obama). Looks like they are in some trouble...err...scratch that, they're finished. Obama/Biden will be an unstoppable ticket, McCain and co. canot even compete with these two intellectual heavyweights. It should be entertaining watching the GOP get schooled this time around.
OBAMA/BIDEN '08
YES WE CAN!!!

"if you were a "diehard hillary supporter," you wouldn't be voting for McCain as Hill has asked all of us to vote Democratic no matter what." VOTE NO TO BIGOTED OBAMA SUPPORTERS!! Vote NO to Obama who lied about his uncle liberating Jews from Aushwitz. Vote NO to Obama who lied that he would filibuster against FISA but voted for FISA. Vote NO to Obama who lied that he would use public financing for the general election but declared that he won't! VOTE NO to Obama who spent 20 years listening to Rev. Wright's racist, bigoted remarks in sermons while exposing his own innocent children to disgusting racist and bigoted remarks by Rev. Wright! NO MEANS NO!!!
