Biden calls Palin 'Lieutenant Governor'

ABC News' Matthew Jaffe reports: After her speech Wednesday night at the Republican convention in St. Paul, most of the nation now knows who Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is. Her vice-presidential counterpart, Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., apparently still does not.

"I heard a very, by the way I mean this sincerely, a very strong and a very good political speech from a lieutenant governor of Alaska who I think is going to be very formidable, very formidable not only in the campaign but in the debate," Biden said Thursday at an economic discussion at George Mason University in Manassas, Virginia.

Biden spokesman David Wade acknowledged that Biden mistakenly called Palin "lieutenant" Governor, but brushed it off as a meaningless error.  "Oh Lordy day, it's not like he said Czechoslavakia was still a country. Newsflash: sometimes people get a word or two crossed," said Wade.

However, Biden's audience appears to know plenty about Palin - and they are none too pleased with her. For the second consecutive event, Biden had to field a question from a female audience member expressing very strong anti-Palin sentiment.

"I just want to let you know that I'm really tired of the Republicans pandering to women voters," said Jennifer Halpin of Leesburg, Virginia. "I've been supporting Barack Obama from day one. I also really respect and admire Hillary Clinton. And I think it's preposterous for Republicans to think that just because they add any woman to their ticket that we are going to be dumb enough to turn into Stepford wives and vote [for McCain]."

Responded Biden, "Spoken like my wife, daughter and sister."

Although he joked Thursday morning in Virginia Beach that "fortunately" he didn't see much of Wednesday's Republican convention action while he flew from Florida to Virginia, Biden sounded like he had caught up on what he missed.

"I heard a lot of attacks on Barack Obama and a few on me," the senator said. "I heard a lot of appeals to division in America, heard a lot of scare tactics, heard a lot of things that weren’t accurate from the speakers about Barack Obama’s record and what an Obama-Biden administration would do."

Referring back to John McCain campaign manager's Rick Davis' comment that this election is not about issues," Biden noted, "It's obvious to me from last night that that's what they intend to do, try to make this election not about issues."

"Quite frankly, folks, they can't explain the eight years of absolute, absolute, abject failure of our foreign policy," continued Barack Obama's running mate. "And they can't explain the eight years of economic decline in this country, particularly hitting the middle class like a gut punch. They can't explain it. And the second thing is, the don't have any answer. They dug us into a very, very, very deep hole. and I think I can say this without fear of contradiction. Just forget the politics, just look at the facts. Look at where the nation is today and where it was, notwithstanding 9/11, and where it was prior, prior to George Bush becoming president of the United States of America."

The ever-colorful senator also went on to compare President Bush to Houdini.

"I call President Bush, I'm kidding with him, I call him Houdini," he said. "And the reason I do, I kid him, I say how could you have gone from a projected surplus of $5.4 trillion to a projected deficit of over $8 trillion – trillion with a "t" dollars. How could you have inherited a $232 billion operating surplus and leave us with a $500 billion likely deficit, on average well over $250 billion a year. I didn’t think Houdini could do that. So I find it interesting that, that, that John McCain talks about how he votes - brags about he votes 90, I think, 95, whatever he said, percent of the time with George Bush. That’s not what I’d call a change agent. I find it kind of fascinating that when he talks about being joined at the hip, his folks talk about being joined at the hip with Bush. Folks, we need a hip replacement."

Hey Yawn, Why don't you stop yawning and actually take a look at Alaska's budget. Does a borough in Queens have a annual budget of $5.6 Billion dollars? Look at her administration's performance record. There is more positive growth than not. I'm tired of uneducated dem's spouting spoon feed statistics. Do you homework.

David from texas is right. Very soon the American people will demand substantive answers about how the Dems plan on effecting their idea for "change". And we'll see that once the Dems pony up and provide us with their detailed plan - and not some catchy, feel good phrase - that it just won't hold water. But then again, that'll only matter to those who aren't subject to all the hype and understand the intricacies of the issues.

If Plain was such a poor choice on the part of Mccain, why are the Dem flackies who post all over the internet in such a snit? Shouldn't they simply be happy and sit smugly back and watch the impending electoral disaster for the Reps? Instead, we have folks like "Lisa" attempting to start yet another false rumor about Palin. Why do the Dems fear Palin so much? Food for thought. Well, at least for those who aren't "Stepford wives for Obama."

He must have been thinking of that blind black guy in NY who stepped in for Spitzer, who had the hookers. Then we found out the blind guy too, had been cheating on his wife and doing drugs.....great Lt. Gov in NY.
Palin is in charge of our largest state, which now, I feel like visiting, and I bet tourism will be up too. She has to be up on all that and the cruise industry and far more than the community organizer has had to be in charge of.
McCAIN/PALIN ALL THE WAY

Thanks to Capt. Bush, our ship has hit an iceberg and is taking on water. There is no room in the life boats for women and children because those seats are already occupied by Republican men.

McCain/Palin don't have a chance. The Hope 'N' Change World Tour '08 clinched it for Obama/Biden.

The best response to Governor Palin's snide mockery would be silence. Ignore her until she says something substantive to say about Republican policy on significant issues. To me, this self-styled "pit bull with lipstick" is still in the chihauhau league.

========================================

Hey Lookatthefacts,

Go ahead and look up the budget of Queens and then wake up.

The budget for NYC, for which Queens is a part, exceeds the budget of over 48 nations, and easily surpasses the budget of 32 states, including the soon to be wastelands of Alaska. Drill baby, drill (a hole in your head, you need one more...)

I hope everyone sees where her priorities are and it isn't her family or her 18 year old daughter would not have left herself get pregnant to a boy that does not want children and she also has a special needs child and whose resposibility of raising this child is going to be the next couple months the mother on the campaign trail . This woman is a joke from the work go and a liar just to get someone fired.ex beauty queen my 12 year old has more experience than her at least he was president of his class for 2 yearsnot 20 months

Let's see now:
Biden can't tell the difference
between a battalion and a brigade!
Biden can't tell the difference between
a Governor and a Lieutenant Governor!
Biden was against the successful
"troop surge" in Iraq!
Biden wanted to divide Iraq up into
three sections, Shia, Sunni, and Kurd!
Proof he doesn't know what he's talking
about and has bad judgement!

Biden id too dishonest person.

well, that's just a little "mean-spirited" and sarcastic now isn't it?

Hey did you guys listen to Rush today? He exposed Biden's lies with his own video/words! LOL!

Gag me.

When Obama, Biden, the Clintons, the Kerry's, the Kennedy's and all the others say "the American People" it feels condescending, however, when I hear it from Palin and McCain, "the American People", I feel proud, like we should about this country!

Now, it's like night and day with the choice. We have REAL HOPE of REAL CHANGE with McCain/Palin!!!!!! Perhaps the Messiah was really prophesizing about the election!

I WONDER WHAT IS WRONG WITH DIVIDING IRAQ UP INTO REGIONS OR AREAS OR STATES. IT SEEMS TO WORK IN CANADA AND THE USA LET THE PEOPLE VOTE ON WHAT AREA THEY WANT TO LIVE IN THE ONE WITH THE MOST VOTES IS WHERE THAT SO CALLED MUSLEM SECT WILL LIVE SHEITES SURBES , SUNNIES. AND THEN LET THEM RULE THEMSELVES RIGHT NOW NO ONE IS IN CHARGE OF THE WHOLE DAMM COUNTRY.

Yawn, you twisted the facts again. A "borough of queens" is not NYC. Based on your argument Mr. O wouldn't be qualified either. (for that matter neither would the former gov or Arkansas)

Posted by: Lookatthefacts | Sep 4, 2008 8:26:20 PM

in regard to the ethics probe underway in AK. Her defense is that her staff did this stuff on thier own. So if she is lying she is guilty of abuse of power, if she is telling the truth, exactly what kind of executive is she that her staff would so blatantly break rules and laws? Also, blaming yoru staff is a little chickensh*t in my opinion, if you are in charge, the buck stops with you.

Posted by: Jason | Sep 4, 2008 8:37:34 PM

Why should I vote for her?

* She was only picked because she is a woman.

* She doesn't put her children first

* She's not qualified for this job - and McCain is old

I'm going with the others - I'm writing in Romney.

Biden what a great choice. Real change?

Independent for Palin/McCain

Could be that Old Joe OBiden tried to make a subliminal dig on Sarah Palin, maybe even lowered himself to a sexist remark...

After all, Obama didn't have to pick a woman to be his lieutenant. Old Joe Obiden was right there to jump at his command.

But, more than likely, Old Joe OBiden just had a senior moment.

And, perhaps someone could give the retired Colonel something more than the same diatribe to copy and paste every day.

I am also disabled, but I can at least come up more than a reprint from blog to blog.
