Biden Goes Back To School
September 06, 2008 3:30 PM
ABC News' Matthew Jaffe reports: Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., went back to school Saturday, surprising his students at Widener University School of Law in Wilmington by returning to teach his weekend class there.
Since 1991, Biden has taught "Selected Topics in Constitutional Law", a two-hour class held Saturdays at 9:00 am, but for obvious reasons the Democratic vice-presidential candidate hasn't been around the last few weeks.
Biden's co-professor Bob Hayman, who has helped teach the class since 2003, and their students were surprised to see Biden make an unexpected, but welcome, return from the campaign trail.
"Today we had a regular class," Hayman said, laughing. "We almost talked about the campaign not at all. We talked about separation of powers, we talked about the framers' vision of the Constitution. I think maybe today was a refuge from the campaign for him to some extent, a time for him to be a teacher again."
"Even though he couldn't be there in the same capacity as he was before he became the nominee, we were all thrilled to see that he came this morning," said Christell Hershey, a student who works at a financial firm during the day and takes law classes on the side.
"It was just nice," she said. "We had coffee and doughnuts and we had a nice relaxed Saturday morning class and it was just really fun."
"It was a pretty neat experience," echoed fellow student Joseph Pultrone. "It's not that often that you have, you know, a candidate for vice president talking to you within ten feet from your face. It was pretty cool."
"He definitely had our attention," added Pultrone.
The seminar, with a limit of 18 students, is "not the easiest one to get into," according to Widener Law School public relations director Dan Hanson. With the senator's busy schedule, the class hasn't always been the easiest for Biden to get into, either - in the past, the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee has taken the red-eye flight from Afghanistan to get back in time for it.
Biden, whose wife Jill is an English professor at nearby Delaware Technical & Community College, is "a really good teacher", according to Hayman, who noted that the senator is "obviously a very gifted speaker", but also a good listener.
"He's real good at listening to students and understanding not only the surface of things, but also understanding what their concerns are and addressing those concerns," he said. "I guess that comes from his day job, too."
The students should enjoy Biden's presence while they can because in the next 60 days, his schedule as Sen. Barack Obama's running mate may not allow him to come back many more times.
"I think they've got a pretty full calendar between now and November," said Hayman.

LOL Obama liked earmarks before he hated them, earmarks like getting his wife's work millions of dollars in grants or his friend Rezkio 13 million for one of his 'projects' his other friends nuclear plant millions in subsidies, last year alone he took over 300 hundred million dollars for his friends back in Chicago and now he's running on cleaning up earmarks, keep talking you empty suit. Instead of getting rid of a jet Obama would have added a fleet and each one would bare his name the big 0, for being a big zero.

The students better enjoy Biden's presence while they can because Obammy will arrainge him a "Vince Foster" accident very soon.
If he teaches about the Constitution, I wonder if he teaches them about voting against the 2nd Amendment every time.
We already know that Obammy votes against the 2nd Amendment every time.

Biden is a principled man who understands the world. Teaching the future leaders of our country and also listening to what they have to say is important for a leader to be able to lead. Palin as a hockey mom, PTA and 5 different colleges in order to get one degree is UNFIT to be Vice President. Unfit to lead this nation in these troubling times. This is not the school prom people this is the highest office of the land. Palin is Paris Hilton and Britney Spears all rolled up into one. I'm just waiting for the sex tape to come out.

What are the odds Biden will develop "asthma" again after 46 years requiring him to bow out. Obama will pay top dollar to have Clinton replace him. still won't work.

Here is some information that is guaranteed to enlighten you. This has already been forwarded to the Drudge Report and to several MSM services.

Frank- love the way your comment not only goes with the actual subject of this blog but you actually make sense too! I see you're a McCain supporter - you geniuses! No wonder you voted for Bush too - smart birds of a feather you all are! And you want another 4 more years to destroy this country? Geniuses - pure genius!

I think I'll vote for the ticket that has the 2 Constitutional Law teachers instead of the one that doesn't understand the separation of church and state and that banning books is against the Constitution.

Who is going to be the first MSM source to drop this bomb?

This has been around for over 8 years on the net, yet no one reports on it? I do not understand the media's lovefest with John McCain. Get some shovels out and dig. It isn't hard to find creditable evidence of John S McCain's character. This guy is more flawed than Slick Willy! No one gave that guy a break!

John McCain's character?
He has more character in his broken arms than Obammy has in his whole cocained body.

LarryMan,
You live in a fantasy land lol. At least provide factual evidence, not "made-up" websites. A quick internet lookup shows that you are fibbing lol.
We are fed up with the "made-up" stories our politicians shove down our throats. They don't need help from you.
Let me guess, you will vote for McCain because now he has his "trophy running mate" just like his past wives lol. You are the reason for his "bump" in the polls. You should be proud. I wonder if you have a daughter whose rights you care about?
That is character we can all believe in.
You are living in a fantasy if you believe that this man has "changed" from his Academy days! Google it. It is all out there. Actual, factual documents. Why do you think they call him "Crash" McCain? Even his instructions and classmates thought he was being pushed along by his Daddy. Sounds familar don't it. Oh, yes, DaddyBush push his son along too.
Guess McCain really is more of the Same.

FACT:
Vietnamese tell international press that POW McCain was "singled out for softer treatment"
A former Vietnamese Communist Party official is claiming Sen. John McCain was "quickly singled out for softer treatment" as a POW because "he was the son of an American admiral. Phung Van Chung, 70, who was a Communist Party official at the time McCain was captured said "top" Vietnamese leaders wanted to use McCain "for negotiations." Chung also said McCain is refusing "to acknowledge" the heroism of Mai Van On, a Vietnamese peasant who the Vietnamese say swam out during the bombing raid and rescued McCain from drowning. McCain's refusal to publicly recognize Mai Van On for saving "his life" has some in the media speculating that McCain is afraid that to do so would "fuel other, more damaging allegations that McCain exaggerated elements of his PoW ordeal in Hoa Lo prison.
Wish I my daddy was an Admiral. Instead, he just worked as an engineer. Guess I wouldn't get special treatment if I were captured. Damn it!

In 2004 I heard and feared as I listened to Barack Obama's speech at the Democratic Convention. I saw a glib tongue who sells nothing but fools gold. I could see the empty void of positive beliefs between his words, but knew immediately that he is a "mass manipulator."
There is nothing in that suit but elitist arrogance. He is an "I" or "me" man. He is like the child that is asked to do the dishes while the other siblings help clean the rest of the house, but at the end of the day takes full credit for the entire job.
How can you get caught up in voting for someone who admits to hating America, and believe he is the best for it?
Posted by: Kathleen | Sep 6, 2008 4:57:44 PM
How can one get caught up in voting for someone who left our veterans on the field of battle? This person systematically ignored those POW/MIA personnel and their families in favor of the below:
//////////////////////////////////
Since McCain was first elected to Congress 1982 (and later to the Senate), he and his staff have expended tens of thousands of hours pushing U.S. legislation favoring communist Vietnam. In 1995, McCain stood with Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass. to give President Bill Clinton valuable political cover he needed to disregard the issue of missing U.S. POWs in Vietnam and remove the U.S. trade embargo against Vietnam.
///////////////////////////////////////
Those are the facts. If you had sons and daughters deployed around the world, could you trust this man to bring them all home? His past ACTIONS demonstrate that he cares more about the Vietnamese than he does us veterans.
People, get out there and research!!!
Oh, I know, just vote for the hot chick! That's the ticket to getting our economy fixed. That's the ticket to getting the gas prices down. That's the ticket to getting medical care to our Grandparents and Children.
Oh, yes, I am going to vote for that hot chick that has done nothing but abuse her power for her own families gain. That is definitely the COUNTRY FIRST mentality I was thinking of!
