Biden: Hillary a Better Pick Than Me
September 10, 2008 5:17 PM
ABC News' Matthew Jaffe reports: Sen. Barack Obama's, D-Ill., vice presidential nominee, Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., Wednesday said that Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., might have been a better pick for the position than him.
At a rally in Nashua, N.H., a man in the audience told Biden how glad he was that Obama picked him over Hillary, "not because she's a woman, but because, look at the things she did in the past."
"Make no mistake about this," Biden responded. "Hillary Clinton is as qualified or more qualified than I am to be vice president of the United States of America. Let’s get that straight. She’s a truly close personal friend, she is qualified to be president of the United States of America, she’s easily qualified to be vice president of the United States of America, and quite frankly, it might have been a better pick than me. But she’s first rate, I mean that sincerely, she’s first rate, so let’s get that straight."
Spokesman Ben Porritt offered this response from the McCain camp: "Barack Obama’s most important decision of this election, and Biden -- the candidate he selects -- suggests, himself, that he wasn’t the right man for the job, and that Hillary Clinton would have been a better choice. Biden certainly has a credible viewpoint on this."

Sorry Joe the PUMAS are not impressed and nothing will change that. Of course it doesn't help that your so chummy with McCain either.

HRC Qualified or not, would have been a galvanizing point for the GOP, it would have been all Clinton all the time 24/7. NOthing would have brought the GOP together faster than to insure she did not win.

Biden, are you suffering from low self-esteem? Do you need a hug?

Joe, be a man and step a side so that Obama can correct his mistake by replacing you with Hillary as VP. Otherwise you will be known as the spoiler of the century

Great move by Biden to grease his way on EXIT and set the stage for Hillary to come in , Dont think this hasn't been discuss the sooner you do it the better , I always felt Biden would be better serve as SEC OF STATE he loves to travel .
So Hillary come on down and get into the spotlight again
when you go heads up against Palin , her camp CAN'T USE THE SEXISM CARD.

Boy o boy , i'd be happy if Joe steps aside for Hillary Clinton.
I want to win.

Joe gets this. Can anybody ask Obama is he understand this? I hope he will be questioned about why he skipped Hillary.
Did any one watch O'Rily grill Obama on his ties with Ayers, Wright? It is a disaster. Obama behaved like a high school boy caught cheating in an exam.
Posted by: amy | Sep 10, 2008 5:47:28 PM
I'm beginning to agree with Biden, not because I think Hillary would have been a better pick, but because Biden cannot even produce confidence in the ticket!!! What is he trying to do? Hash up old feelings and sabotage Obama??? I'm beginning to not trust him at all. The old farts in politics just can't move over and support the new blood can they? This whole "praise the females so much it doesn't even make sense" is getting sickening. From a married, church-going, working, mother of 3 children, and a democrat, stop the nicey talk and try to win dang it, I'm not investing in you to praise the other party and set the people who lost in the primaries on a pedestal!!!

Joe Biden has convinced me that he will assist in the loss of Obama if he keeps this nonsense up......
Perhaps you should step aside Mr. Joe Biden......
Posted by: shalom | Sep 10, 2008 5:50:41 PM
I think Obama being one to always copy off others ideals----wants to trade Biden in for a woman and this is just the ground work for Biden to step down so Hill can replace him.
Posted by: chattyway | Sep 10, 2008 5:56:12 PM
Obama was asked on "Nightline" if he thought no picking Hillary was a mistake .. but he didn't answer the question!
Posted by: Francisco Cardenas | Sep 10, 2008 5:56:39 PM
Why didn't you tell that to Obama? You should of said then: "Thanks man, but no thanks, pick Hillary, she is better qualify to be your VP".
But what you actually said is: "Why it took you so long?"
Go figure....
BTW, I don't think he can drop out and pick Hillary. And if I was Hillary, after all this staging phony roll call on DNC, I would of say "NO". Women has to have her honor and dignity. Which I think she does.
Posted by: Phillip | Sep 10, 2008 5:56:50 PM
I think Biden is a better choice than Hillary. He's much better looking and looks a lot better in a suit! Less wrinkles too!
Posted by: dl | Sep 10, 2008 5:57:38 PM
Biden is full of bad comments, "Obama America!" "Clinton is better vp than me", more fuel for McCain to use. It just gets worst and worst for Obama.
Posted by: ElectionPIMP | Sep 10, 2008 5:58:13 PM
I think Biden was saying exactly what he meant and I really like him for it. Hillary was smeared throughout the primary by Obama and his followers.
The truth is in the great things she has done over the years. Her record was demeaned and minimized by Obama in the primary. They will try to do the same thing now to Palin. Obama's advantage has always been a media willing do anything or say anything to get him elected.
Lot's of voters do their research and no longer trust the tabloids.
Posted by: Jackie | Sep 10, 2008 5:59:09 PM
Unbelievable! Only Joe Biden could say something like this that could be so damaging! Barack Obama insulted women Hillary supporters once, now Biden has done it again. I knew it would not take long for Biden to put both feet squarely in his mouth. Senator Obama, you are going to have to live with this man as your side kick...but only for 55 more days.

Majority political strategists will agree on one thing: selecting running mate is the first most important decision presidental candidates made. Now can someone tell me how Sen. Obama who keep shouting judgement is more important than experience made this decision. Sen. Hillary is more qualify , better pick according to Sen. Biden but wasn't even considered.
Is this mean Sen. Obama make a real bad jugdment according to Sen. Biden ?
Posted by: maleasiansmoker | Sep 10, 2008 6:01:07 PM
Now instead of putting lipstick on a pig, they're putting it on Hillary Clinton (who was the better candidate by a long shot).
Way to go Democrats! You think telling the media you aren't running the best candidates is the way to win?
Posted by: Amaryllis | Sep 10, 2008 6:01:22 PM
Make no mistake about this....Palin's record is not extremist...it is just the oppisite of Obama's ....McCain represents the true center of ideology....where most voter's live.
Posted by: Jackie | Sep 10, 2008 6:01:27 PM
I think Biden was just being humble and being nice to Hillary.
Why aren't we analyzing every word that comes out of McCain and Palin's mouth. They've told the same lies in their stump speeches for the last 2 weeks. Let's break it down and call them to task for every lie.

You PUMAS are a joke. If Obama wins, Hillary will be Sec. Of State, one of the most powerful positions in the world. But you want to help palin as if she is somehow equal to Hillary. You are a disgrace to Hillary's legacy, and a bunch of whiney children. Not to mention stupid for going against your own beliefs just like a pouting child.
Joe's chilvary in his statement today is truly kind. He will be skewered for it, but that will not erase the kindness in that man. He is a true leader and statesman. If Hillary does not help her party now, she does not desverve the friendship with Biden.

This is very funny.
Only in right wing world is humility and graciousness perceived to be some sort of gaffe. Obviously for the fake "Hillary Supporters" earning their McCain trolling points, the truth is an obstacle blocking their way to power.
To moral Americans, lying your way to office will lead to nothing but more dysfunctional government where politics comes before governance.
Anyway, this stupid non-troversy du jour is the extent of the McCain campaign's grasp of the issues.
When they told you the election would not be based in issues, did you think they were lying?
Heh. I guess that's their only true statement this year and they've used up their quota.

Thank you, Joe Biden, for being an honest man. It is a shame that Senator Obama was not.
Posted by: Mary | Sep 10, 2008 6:09:42 PM
Calm down people, Biden is trying to be humble. Right now the focus of the election is on Obama and Palin. This speaks volumes about McCain, as it is clear that the Republicans are more excited about their VP candidate than McCain himself. Just wait until the media have a chance to examine Palin's record. Just because she is a woman does not mean she get a pass from media scrutiny.
Posted by: tony | Sep 10, 2008 6:11:45 PM
This kind of reporting is ridiculous and a discredit to the media. Matthew Jaffe should be ashamed of himself. Who knows how this statement actually came out of Biden's mouth from this report? It's twisted the minute it hits the paper. Come on, ABC. I expect better from you. Do the country a favor. Stick to the issues. Don't become "ambulance chasers."

The 2008 presidential election is the saddest chapter in the Democratic Party history. The strongest and most qualified candidate, Hillary Clinton, was shoved aside to give way for the weakest candidate, Barack Obama.
As a staunch Hillary Clinton supporter who has full confidence in her abilities, it hurts me to witness the leadership of the Democratic Party handing the 2008 victory to the Republicans. Unfortunately, I, too, am one of the millions who will be voting for McCain/Palin for lack of a better choice.
What the Democratic Party and the media did to Hillary is such a disgrace. I am a middle-aged military man who saw my wife crying her eyes out the day Hillary dropped out of the race. My wife was crying not only because the most qualified woman candidate was pushed out of the race, but also because the Democratic Party's real chance for victory was denied.
With so many questionable associations and shifting positions, I can not vote for Obama. Since I know what service to country is, John McCain will be my choice for president of our beloved country in November 2008.
I hope and pray that Hillary Clinton will run in 2012. She must! We need her to heal the severe wounds that the Democratic Party and the media inflicted on her and her supporters.
Posted by: Dwight | Sep 10, 2008 6:12:21 PM
Breath deep people...now exhale and reread his comment. Wow...it's so typical of the conservatives to 'spin' any comment made by Obama or Biden. He's merely stating that Hillary is just as qualified as he is. Now you people have him 'dropping out' You PUMAS need to get over yourselves. It was Hillary's decision not to be vetted in the first place. PLUS...she and Bill didn't want to divulge records as a part of being fully vetted...ie....
Bill's donor list to his WJK foundation, Hillary's records as First Lady, and records from Pres Clinton's presidential library in Arkansas. They have yet to give complete '07 tax returns. What do they still have to hide? Campaign fraud maybe? They've been sued in the State of Calif for Hillary's 2000 Senate election. Trial should start in Nov.........after the election, which was by her request.
I have no doubt Hillary will have a top position in Obama's administration where she can continue her pledge to the people. Does that matter to the PUMAs? I doubt it...they just want a woman and from what I can see, it doesn't matter which woman, as long as she has a vagina.
Posted by: Sotally Tober | Sep 10, 2008 6:12:25 PM
Hillary might unite the GOP, but that wouldn't have mattered because they're already galvanized by the Palin pick.
Posted by: adfdf | Sep 10, 2008 6:17:01 PM
Yeah, Yeah, I know Biden was only making kind statements just like when he said that Obama was a clean black guy that could actually talk so it was all gravey?
Posted by: chattyway | Sep 10, 2008 6:17:29 PM
Joe, when the "whitey tape" is released both you and the Obamessiah will be completely destroyed and blown off the poltical landscape. You should have considered this before you stabbed Hillary in the back and took the VP spot.

No need for Hilliary to galvanize the GOP, Obama and his stupid followers comments are tossing voters left and right at the GOP. (Pun Intended.) The question is no longer who will win, but how badly Obama is going to lose. Geez....
Posted by: chattyway | Sep 10, 2008 6:19:27 PM
S*** happended!
How funny things happened in this elections:
- Democrat have every advantages but manage to throw aways.
- Repulican have no single advantage but somehow select the only one (McCain) who have a change to win.
- Hillary fought so hard for woman and Palin enjoy the fruits.
- Obama claims good judgement and make a lousy decision.
- McCain proud of experience but make a sensation pick.
What 's next suprises ?

McCain/Palin - good for America
Obama/Biden - good for nothing

It would be nice if Obama followed up Biden's admission with one of his own that Hillary would be a better candidate than him to ease himself out of the top for the 2nd spot on the ticket. That would definitely suck all the air out of the Palin's phenomenon.

What is funny is I think Obama is planning on replacing Biden with a woman or one of the Clintons------but that it is only going to annoy voters further as it will only be seen as a desperate weak attempt on Obama's part.
Posted by: chattyway | Sep 10, 2008 6:28:26 PM
Oh I love that Joe...and I really believe he has more affection and respect for John McCain and their 33 year old friendship. As for Hillary, Biden is dead on...I was a Hillary supporter and watched the media and BO campaign kick her in the teeth. I switched to McCain the day Hillary dropped out and contributed that day. The Palin addition is just icing on the cake for me.
I KNOW in the post analysis of this election....Obama's loss will be completely attributed to his dissing the gal who SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE DEM PREZ NOMINEE, and he never even thought of her for VP...never. His ego is limitless....thank God, McCain isn't like that. Republicans heaved a sigh of relief the day Biden was announced (or should I say the 3AM text (dig to Hillary). Hillary, in every poll was the one to beat McCain, but this is the Affirmative Action year for Dems, and it's the wrong black guy to be our first black Pres. Sorry.

Oh but you want to convince me she's experienced enough to be VP? Give me a break! Oh and now McCain camp says Democrats are in Alaska looking into Palin's record, maybe they wouldn't. What we should take Rove's word for Palin's record. I think Obama was calling Rove the "lipstick on a pig".

SP has already gotten inside BHO's head - he's obsessed. as he slides more in polls, he'll get more desperate. make more mistakes. they'll get even more strident. i just hope the pollsters continue to over-report his support so he doesnt completely whack out. before november. amazing year. 4 of the most amazing political stories:
- how could HRC NOt get the nomination?
- how could HRC NOT be picked veep by BHO? (the begining of his end)
- palin: most important vp pick in history?
- BHO loses: how could he have lost with all the $$ advantage, all the dem tailwinds etc etc

To those of you who are voting for McCain and his cardboard cutou, listen closely.
By voting for McCain it only reiterates the critics that you were never for Hillary's stance on the issues or her devotion to women's causes. Also, by voting for McCain you support him when he goes against all women's rights. The 'right to vote' will be the next right he will take away. Check his voting record towards women and children. Take a deep hard look at your mothers, sisters, aunts, and daughters. Look them in the eye and tell them you are voting for a man who will overturn Roe vs Wade and the woman's right to make her own choice. Tell them McCain's gov't will make their choices for them.
Also tell them their school programs will be cut out of the McCain budget and they won't be able to play afterschool sports. And please don't forget to tell them NOT to get sick, 'cuz you don't Pres McCain said we all have to fend for ourselves---no more health insurance. If you have teenage kids, remind them to register for the draft. Make sure you tell them to toughen up because it's a huge possibility you'll never be able to see them again.
Don't pass your ignorant self defiance along to your children. Think about them and not your own self egoes.
If you don't believe me, you're more than welcome to educate yourself on McCain's stance on the issues. Just don't read them on his website, once a liar always a liar.

Sen. John McCain has proved himself to be unqualified and incapable of effectively leading the United States of America into the future by, among other things, his reckless, irresponsible, impulsive, and dangerous judgment in picking Sarah Palin as his running mate. Sarah Palin is a minor distraction not even worthy of discussion. However, Sen. John McCain has shown his contempt for the intelligence of the American people by making this unequivocally cynical decision to use an unknown, untested, and corrupt, serial liar like Sarah Palin to deceive voters into believing he stands for change. Sen. John McCain also disgraced himself by demonstrating a lack of courage in his choice of Sarah Palin at the last moment over much more qualified Republican men and women simply because she appeals to the base of the Republican Party, a group of voters he was going to lose. What Sen. John McCain doesn't understand is that by appeasing the extreme right wing of the Republican Party, he is going to lose the voters that really count, i.e., moderate and independent voters, and, in doing so, certainly lose the election. Obama/Biden 2008!!!

Was Obama's Freudian slip about his Muslim faith the Wright thing to say?

Gawd, Joe, shut UP. Don't give Obammy ideas. He can't make a decision now. If you suggest you will step down he will only say 'PRESENT".
I like Joe because at least he doesn't have a vagina. At least I THINK Hitlery has a vagina. I hope she does, anyway. Could it be that Bill really gave birth to Chelsey???
Democrats. Sooooooo much fun.

Go McCain/Palin!!!!!!!!!!
That goes to show you the only way to really fix things is to do away with both parties start new ones. Like other countries do and like we did many years ago (wig party). Fire them all elect new one if you want real changes.
Country is falling apart economy is slow yet these officials still raising 100 million plus just to be Pres. Government and big businesses need overhauled. Corrupt business men over the last 20 years is killing us slowly.
I mean come on now. You still 600 million only get 4 years crazy.

Biden is sick! He has hoofen mouth disease. HRC would never lower herself to be on a ticket with a rattled and malconted senator from Chicago!

That was like sending flowers to the deceased. Thanks Joe for helping me strengthen my resolve to vote for McCain.

Joe, why did you accept the nomination then? Better yet, Obama, why didn't you pick her? Oh yea, you were too arrogant and too good for her. After all, you "beat the Clinton machine." You won the battle, but you've lost this war badly.
And to those who say "she woulda galvinized the GOP," because Sarah Palin hasn't more than HRC ever could have? Ummm, if Obama had picked HRC, there'd have been no Palin VP pick!

Ya see what I mean! Reading the comments here, I'm shocked that there are still so many Obama supporters that refuse to admit that Hillary would have put the Democratic Ticket so above the republicans, that no matter what they did, democrats would have been a lock. Obamas refusal to give Hillary the VP slot, compounded by the fact that John McCain had the guts to put Palin up in the VP slot, might make a democratic presidency at the earliest 12 years away. It's too late to add Hillary now so the only hope you Hillary fans and the democratic party have now is an Obama defeat in November, and a Hillary win in 2012. You see, I'm a Hillary supporter and I'm NOT VOTING FOR OBAMA. I don't care what the polls say, there are so many of us out there that feel the same way as I do, I can't believe that this election is as close as the polls say. I know so many die hard democrats that, because of the DNC, and the treatment of Hillary, and the Superdelegates, they are not voting for Obama either. It sounds to me like the only issue for democratic women that are still holding them to Obama is the Abortion issue. It's only a matter of time before they realize that no matter who is in office, nobody is going to be crazy enough to take away a womens right to choose. There are many, many republicans that agree with a womens right to choose.
