Biden Keeps Enemies Close, Friends Closer
September 03, 2008 9:40 AM
ABC News' Matthew Jaffe reports: Barack Obama's vice presidential nominee Joe Biden might be campaigning against presumptive Republican nominee John McCain, but he can't stop emphasizing that he is close friends with his GOP rival.
"He is my good friend," said Sen. Biden, D-Del., of Sen. McCain, R-Ariz., speaking Tuesday in West Palm Beach, Florida. "We go back 33 years. If John McCain picked up - I get in trouble for saying this with some real strong Obama supporters, but you gotta - it is what it is. If John McCain picked up the phone today and said, 'Joe, I need you to get in a plane and fly out to Missoula, I can't tell you why', I'd get in a plane and I'd go. And I believe he'd do it for me."
Of course, while Biden calls McCain "a good guy," he is always quick to add that, when it comes to key issues, "John doesn't get it."
When he's not telling everyone how close he is to McCain, Biden also loves to describe what a great relationship he and his family have developed with the Obamas.
"I don't know whether you can notice," Biden told the south Florida crowd at the Palm Beach County Convention Center. "But there is a a genuine, a genuine chemistry. There is a genuine, genuine affection and there is a genuine bond between Michelle and Jill and me and Barack. And it's real. It's real."
The Delaware lawmaker fondly tells the story of his grandchildren having a sleepover with Obama's daughters on the second night of the Denver convention.
"Every once and a while something happens totally unexpected that you didn't anticipate. That makes you realize something, a perspective you didn't walk in with," he said.
To Biden's surprise, his granddaughter Finnegan - "she better turn out to be smart and beautiful handling that name" - approached him and asked his permission to have a sleep-over.
"We're standing there and said, you know, she said, 'Pop, we want to have a sleepover.' And I said, 'You do?' And they said 'yeah'. And the end result of this was, we cleared out one of the rooms, took out the beds. Seriously".
"And they put down mats on the floor, and Barack's two daughters and my four granddaughters - actually my oldest one who's 15 did not. But the three youngest granddaughters and until he got a little rowdy my 3-year-old grandson, we had pizza brought in and tapes of the various shows they like to put in."
The spur-of-the-moment slumber party might have seemed minor, but it left an indelible impression on Biden.
"I didn't want to be vice president," he admitted. "But as I walked away from that, I realized what I suspect a lot of you who are dedicated to Barack becoming president feel. I walked out of there realizing why I'm in this. It sounds corny. I'm in this for my children and my grandchildren. I'm in this for the people I grew up with in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and Wilmington, Delaware. I'm in this for all the people who you know, all the people who you know, who success or failure is the very measure, the very measure of whether or not the American dream still persists."

Barack Obama spent 20 years in a racist, anti-Semitic, un-American church, and the Democrats don’t see that as a problem. These same Democrats trash Sarah Palin worse than they ever trashed Hillary, yet they expect women in the party to line up like good little soldiers and vote for Obama. Not happening in my family, and there are quite a few of us. NOT ALL DEMOCRATS ARE LEFT-WING NUT CASES. SOME OF US ARE MODERATES. AND WE VOTE!!!!

Paul u are full of crap that never happened. where's your reference. I also know for a fact that bloggers are on obama's payroll and are instructed to say anything to convert the masses, so all this pro obama talk is just crap , cant believe half of it.

The reason Sarah Palin is attacked so visciously by liberals is because she has more experience than the top of the Democratic ticket.
Are you serious Mary? Your own candidate, McCain, doesn't have "executive" experience. What experience does she have that qualifies her as commander in chief? No governor has command over the national guard in cases of national security. When has she commanded her national guard for anything? Obama is on the Foreign Affairs committee- the same committee that legislates and debates foreign affairs. He is on the Homeland Security and Veterans Committee. Obama has had face time with presidents of France, Germany, Afghanistan, Iraq, the prime minister of England and Isreal, the King of Jordan etc...Palin has been out of the country one time? Maybe twice. Does she know who the president of Iraq is? She has already stated publically she doesn't know much about Iraq or what the VP does. Get informed.

The reason Sarah Palin is attacked so visciously by liberals is because she has more experience than the top of the Democratic ticket. When the Democrats whine about her lack of foreign affairs experience, all the Republicans have to do is point to Obama's similar lack of foreign affairs experience. The Democrats forced Joe Biden on Barack Obama to shore up his lack of experience. It's now clear to the entire country that the wrong man is at the top of the ticket. Dems are embarrassed, and Repubs are laughing.

And here's my reference:
according to FOX News (EDITED TO CLARIFY: FOX News information scroll running during FOX News broadcast, NOT FOXNews.com), the Obama campaign has hired 400 bloggers to influence the public discourse and sway Hillary voters to "remember we are all Democrats", to give up Clinton's cause, and to become dutiful citizens of the Obama Nation.

Mary, yeah, it's a shame we're not going after Biden on the issues, cuz that's certainly what has been playing out in the last few days....going after Palin on the issues.
Lol. You're kidding, right?!

so everyone arguing with these obamanations should note , were arguing with paid employees!

If the Republicans are trying to play the gender card, it certainly is working on me. I've been a Democrat all my life. I was sickened by the way Democrats treated Hillary, and I am sickened by the way they are attacking Sarah Palin. Why do I owe loyalty to a party that clearly shows little respect for women? I realize the Republicans are trying to exploit the anger of Democratic women. At the same time, I applaud the fact that Republicans don't seem to have a problem with a woman in the White House. Conservatives have treated Palin with far more respect than many Democrats treated Clinton. I was going to stay home in November. With the nomination of Sarah Palin, I will cast my vote for the Republicans.

Mod Dem: "Barack Obama spent 20 years in a racist, anti-Semitic, un-American church, and the Democrats don’t see that as a problem."
Give me a break. Obama took plenty of hits over the church.
And let's face it. Obama's church is accused of promoting liberation theology. Palin's church is accused of promoting the creation of a Christian army to rid the planet of non-Christians. Which is worse?
But I don't care about either. Nor do I care about your faux indignation over sexism that isn't there.
She's a surprise pick; a governor under investigation with some connection to an un-American fringe political party that advocates Alaska leaving the U.S.
And the media following up on this is what you call sexism? If they didn't follow up, that would be what I call dereliction of duty.

Posted by: Big TX | Sep 3, 2008 11:05:19 AM
Big TX, you're right, paid Obama bloggers are all over the Internet, trying to convert the masses and trying to make it appear as if an Obama victory is inevitable. Wonder where all that money is coming from? It sure didn't come from blacks and college kids. My guess is that it came from the Muslin world. . .

Big TX: "so everyone arguing with these obamanations should note , were arguing with paid employees!"
If so, I'll be pissed. Because I think I make as much sense as any of 'em, and more than some. And I'm not getting a dime.
A little help please. Who can I get in touch with to get on this Obama payroll?
Posted by: Paul | Sep 3, 2008 11:06:01 AM
Another Sarah,

Oh, now we're seeing another of those drive-by posts, not pertaining to anything written in the thread, meant to play the victim card.
And I'm pretty sure this campaign of distraction is coordinated by the McCain campaign. Huck started it with his convention speech, and almost immediately yesterday we saw all these posts showing up whining about how the poor daughter has been victimized (when it was McCain who alerted the media to the fact, lol).
So fess up Big TX - its you who is the staffer, participating in this coordinated campaign of distraction, right? You can tell us. Confession is good for the soul.

Paul is a PAID OBAMA BLOGGER. They’re all over the place. Their mission is to make it appear as if an Obama victory is inevitable, same mission as the Obama whore$ at MSNBC, CNN. Waste of money. I know too many Democrats voting Dem down ticket, and McCain-Palin for President. I know too many Democrats thrilled with Palin as VP, don’t care about the “scandals.” I know what I see on TV and in the Polls, and it doesn’t jibe with what’s going on with my friends and family. MSM tried to paint the Democrat convention as one big happy family. I don’t believe it. I’m not happy with the Democratic ticket, and I know lifelong Dems who feel the same. So go ahead, Paul. Argue your case until the cows come home. Most of us have made up our minds, and we find your arguments laughable.

If anyone is paid, it has to be McCain supporters.
Why? Because Obama supporters are educated, and also smart enough to figure out these message boards have never changed a single voter's vote, lol. And we support a campaign that is smart enough not to spend money on this.
Actually during the primaries, only one campaign got caught with staffers pretending to not be staffers and posting messages on a message board. That was the Clinton campaign, on the BlueHampshire blog. Unlike most, BlueHampshire actually tracked down computers and found seven user IDs that were usually computers registered to the campaign.
And, hey, we know McCain supporters are integrity challenged. So if they are charging Obama with using paid message board posters, it most likely means that its McCain who actually is.
What I'm saying is I can be bought. So please pass up your chain that if the money is right, I'll start posting for McCain, lol.
Here's a free sample:
Damned sexist, liberal, evil media. They're all in the tank for Obama! Every last one of 'em!
See, I can do it.
