Biden Rips McCain for Saying Fundamentals of Economy are "Strong'
September 15, 2008 5:49 PM
ABC News' Matt Jaffe reports: Barack Obama's vice-presidential nominee Joe Biden ripped into Republican candidate John McCain Monday for saying that "the fundamentals of our economy are strong."
Arguing that McCain is "divorced" from the economic realities of the country, Biden used McCain's own words earlier in the day Jacksonville against the GOP nominee.
"Ladies and gentlemen, I believe that’s why John McCain could say with a straight face as recently as this morning and this is a quote, 'the fundamentals of the economy are strong.' That’s what John said. He says that 'We’ve made great progress economically in the Bush years",' Biden said in St. Clair Shores, Michigan.
"Ladies and gentlemen, ladies and gentlemen, I could walk from here to Lansing, and I wouldn’t run into a single person who thought our economy was doing well, unless I ran into John McCain."
Biden frequently uses similar language on the stump, but Monday he blamed the current state of the nation's economy on American voters' faith eight years ago in a Republican candidate's promises, urging them not to make the same mistake again.
"Remember those promises. Remember what he said," Biden said about President George W. Bush. "Remember the promise to reach across the aisle? To change the way things were done in Washington, to change the tone? To restore honor and dignity to the White House? You know, we saw how that story ends. A number, a record number of home foreclosures. Home values tumbling. And the disturbing news that the crisis that you've been facing on Main Street is now hitting Wall Street, taking down Lehman Brothers and threatening other large financial institutions. We have seen eight straight months of job loss in America. Nearly 46 million Americans without any health insurance. Average incomes down, while the price of everything from gas to groceries is going up and up."
The Delaware senator also accused McCain of making American workers into "economic scapegoats."
"Don’t tell me those people, the people who played by the rules, who are the heart and soul of this country, don’t tell me they deserve to be treated as the economic scapegoats that the McCain campaign is treating them - these people worked hard, these people did everything they were supposed to do, these people are ready to work hard again, our job is to give them jobs so they can work hard again," Biden said.
Biden noted that McCain had surrounded himself with advisers like his former Phil Gramm, who said months ago that America had become a "nation of whiners."
"They’re the people John McCain chose himself, chose to be surrounded with getting economic advice on the subject he says he doesn’t know much about. Well let me tell you, tell that to my friend, tell that to my friend Billy who flew jets in the Navy, worked 20 years for the major airlines, they went bankrupt, wiped out his pension. The CEO got a golden parachute. Don’t tell me he’s a whiner. And by the way, if you knew Billy, don’t dare tell him because he’ll knock you on your know what if you tell him he’s a whiner," Biden said.
The McCain campaign hit back Monday, arguing the Democratic ticket is the "most partisan ticket" in presidential politics.
"This is the most partisan ticket in modern presidential politics attempting to repackage outdated and failed policies of the past," said McCain spokesman Ben Porritt. "Barack Obama and his running mate are insistent upon raising taxes which would kill jobs and continue to refuse responsible energy legislation that would reduce gas prices."

A few comments on the man who helped provide the words Sarah Palin put in her speeches:
Westbrook Pegler -
Pegler decreed America was “done for” after Truman won a full term in 1948. For his part, Truman regarded the columnist as a “guttersnipe,” and with good reason. Pegler was a rabid Joe McCarthyite who loathed F.D.R. and Ike and tirelessly advanced the theory that American Jewish immigrants from Eastern Europe (“geese,” he called them) were all likely Communists.

Is this the same Biden who told a cripple to stand up last week and then said "I don't know what I am talking about."" Who takes this guy seriously anymore? He is a clueless buffoon and an embarrassment even to the Obama campaign.

Kitty:
You get a gloom and doom feeling from the Democrats? Three out of the fab five financial institutions that were the cornerstone of Wall Street no longer exist (hint: they were all old enough and strong enough to withstand the great depression). We can't just stamp a bunch of 'Hello Kitty' stickers on it to make it seem okay! Don't blame the Dem's if you can't handle the truth.

No, actually Kitty, I think you can thank the Repubs for that. This is what 8 years of their leadership has wrought.

Mr, Coffee thanks for that Reference.
It was no coincidence that in her allusions to 'small town America growing good people', Palin was steered into making a direct reference to Truman who was an ideological enemy of Pegler.
They even give us the hints as to what they are up to, for those inclined to read between the lines.

Here's the story Jimmy. Just a day after musing that Mrs Clinton ‘might have been a better pick than me’, Mr Biden left an audience cringing in Columbia, Missouri, when he urged a paraplegic state official to stand up and be recognised.
‘Chuck, stand up, let the people see you,’ he shouted to State Senator Chuck Graham before realising, to his horror, that the local politician uses a wheelchair.
BIDEN SHOULD STOP INSULTING THE DISABLED!!

he actually took mccains words as he said them this morning, it was later that mccain came back and attributed his fundamentals of the economy are strong statement to mean that he was talking about hard working people.
if thats his new statement then i ask you does mccain know what the fundementals of the economy are? because they are not hard working americans...
hard working americans may be the corner stone of our economy but fundamentally that is not true....
he screwed up, he is out of touch, and his cover up answer is even more out of touch displaying his campaigns manic episodes

Here, Here to Tammy re: comment Sep 15, 2008 6:22:50 PM.
Tammy you are trying to reach a group that is virtually unreachable. These are the very same ones that voted for the goofball that (with help from syncophants) drove the country off a cliff.
These are the children of Hamelin that continue following the pied piper to an ever worsening fate.
These voters are mindless scum and are ultimately responsible for the current state of affairs affecting our country.

Obama has never gone out of his way to relate to women. Only seven of his top twenty Senate staff positions are filled by women (McCain has thirteen of twenty) and women on Obama's staff earn 83 cents for each dollar his male staffers are paid. (McCain pays his female staffers $1.04 for each dollar he pays to his men).

THE FORCES OF DARKNESS in America are hidden in the light of day in mainstream American life. They smile in your face, appear to be as All American as a Norman Rockwell painting. They seem to care about the lives of average, every day people, so much so that they even arrange rally's with endorsements from latino rap stars, stand alongside people of different races and socioeconomic backgrounds (NASCAR) for photo ops. These people always have a black friend, a latin friend, an Asian and a Midwestern housewife and a blue collar worker. They concoct their photo ops to hit certain demographics because they fundamentally disrespect every single one of them and think you can be had if you see them standing next to someone like you.
For all of their efforts to appear just like you and me, outside the spotlight of TV, Radio and Media as the "True Elitists" they legislate against the American taxpayer, create loopholes for the oil industry and insure that their NEOCON friends and war profiteers will continue to have more war while they bankrupt the nation's treasury and leave small towns in rural America to die. This is true even if they come back every 4 years and prey on them for votes. They scare you and then tell you that they want to protect you. They say that they love America and then they dictate to you their version of patriotism and question yours because you do not wear a flag pin. They do not love you, they do not care about you and they do not want you to have a seat at the table, to see the back room maneuvers and yet, if you should educate yourself, succeed and rise up and gain access and are able to see inside the rigged game that they have set up, spoiled frat boys with trust funds, label you, the one who climbed up from the lower middle classes....they label you as the "Elitist"...as a Muslim..as one with radical friends.
The real danger of the Neocon Forces of Darkness & Intolerence in America is when they reach down, among the people, to find and pluck out a "true believer" in their agenda. The deception works marvelously when they find someone who is attractive, likeable and seems to have a lifestyle just like you and me, rather ordinary. They present her back to the people and ask for your support. It is the oldest elite trick in the book. Who were the most loyal foot soldiers in the 3rd Reich? Elitists who manipulated loyal foot soldiers and pulled them up to high ranking positions. You give them a life and access to power that they can only dream of and of course they will do whatever their mentors/puppetteers advise them to. Sarah Palin is their current decoy and a deception to take away your attention from John McCain's rapidly decaying mental and physical health and those who have commandeered the GOP and McCain's Maverick Brand. The Neocon Trojan Horse, John McCain needs one more layer of deception to get this con by the American people.
