Another Biden Surrogate Rips Palin

Share

September 18, 2008 8:14 PM

ABC News' Matthew Jaffe Reports: For the third time in ten days, Democratic vice-presidential nominee Joe Biden was introduced by a surrogate with harsh words for the Delware Senator's Republican counterpart Sarah Palin.

"She says that she lives next door to Russia," Youngstown mayor Jay Williams said of the Alaska governor's foreign policy experience. "I mean, I don't think that that really counts. That would be the equivalent of me wanting to do your heart surgery because I live next door to a doctor."

Williams wasn't done, either, making some cracks about Palin's small-town home.

"I've never been to Wasilla, but I'm sure it's a nice little town," he said. "In fact it's so little we could invite them all to sit down in the Chevrolet Centre and probably still have room left over."

In fact, Williams might even like to trade his current mayor post for Palin's former gig.

"I would love to be the mayor of Wasilla. I could probably do it from my home," he boasted.

On Monday in Flat Rock, Michigan, Barbara Theaker, a local Obama-Biden supporter, called Sarah Palin "a bucket of fluff". Last Tuesday in St. Louis, Missouri Rep. Russ Carnahan said of Palin, "There's no way you can dress up that record, even with a lot of lipstick."

For the record, the Chevrolet Centre seats as many as 7,000. The population of Wasilla?, 7,028, per the city website.

You are truly sad Democrat No More.
I'm sure the party is glad you're no longer a member.

At the time Palin became mayor of Wasilla, about 5,000 people were living there. So yes, there's be room left in Chevrolet Centre.

I can understand being against Palin, but this kind of venom I still don't get. I really don't get it...it's definitely unattractive.

I'm a black guy who used to be very excioted about Obama, but he has turned me off the last few weeks with his venom against Palin. I actually feel sorry for her...that's where his campaign has led me. It was the hacking of her email yesterday that finally turned me. This is just too much.

I don't agree with McCain much, but I am definitely voting for him, and It's because I'm kind of disgusted with Obama. I will probably be the only black person in Boston to vote for McCain, but I think if this woman can take the last few weeks, she can definitely take anything. She is a very strong woman.

If Joe Biden's surrogate wnats to keep using the Palin line, it would be patriotic for him to include the rest of the paragraph. This is the kind of thing us middle of the road Indie voters watch and make judgements from. What a lie of ommission.

Todd Palin is now refusing to cooperate in Troopergate. This investigation was started by a bi-partisan group w/more Republicans than Democrats on the panel. What are the Palin's hiding?

Posted by: Paige | Sep 18, 2008 8:50:01 PM

Stupid, petty, and assinine (spelling intended). Biden is more qualified to run for president than 0, using the logic of the Democrats. (This is actually true in any case). However Delaware is much smaller in size and population than Riverside County, CA. So using the logic of the Democrats Biden and O aren't even qualified to run for mayor of Riverside. And actually that is a no-brainer for people who use their brains regularly. So why can't the Democrats see their logic is childish. Because if they had any true logical abilities they wouldn't be Democrats, is the correct answer.

Under the guise of being of one race or party affliation, I can write trash about the other party. This is what many of the commentators are doing on the sites. So who really cares? What I can say is that I am a loyal supporter of one party, it doesn't matter which one, but I will not demeam myself by claiming to be a man or woman, white or black, of one or the other party, IF I AM NOT, and then trying to trash the other side under this guise. If you are truly honest with integrity, you do not have to resort to such tactics. That's why these people and the party they support are going down the tubes - through lying and dishonesty.

Democrat No More - There is no such creature as a GOVERNMENT VOUCHER for diapers and clothes. Those people therefore paid with their own money for those items just like you and the rest of the people in line. Food stamps may only be spent on limited types of food items. They may not be used to purchase toilet paper, diapers, soap, clothes, or many other basic items that poor families need like the rest of us. To get food stamps one needs to be very low income and even then the maximum amount is only a few 100 dollars a month. More than likely that family was very careful to use every penny of their free food coupon because it was one of the very few times they were able to eat out. You should congratulate them on maximizing the value of what they were given just like an economist would advise them to do. Furthermore, how are your TAX dollars involved with Target giving a customer service coupon for food at the Target food counter?

Actually, for the record, when Palin was Mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, there were fewer than 5,000 residents.

So if every last resident of the Wasilla Palin was Mayor of was in the Chevrolet Centre? There would be more than 2,000 seats left over.

Don't give Palin credit for being Mayor of a town over 7,000 when she was only Mayor of a town of under 5,000. It might seem like a small difference, but when this is the record she's running on, then by the percentages, that's a roughly 35% difference in population.

Oh Palin, so incredibly under-qualified. Oh McCain, so obviously putting himself first and the country second. Oh Republicans, no choice but to fall in line?

You can still do the right thing for America: elect Obama-Biden.

Funny how the dems keep forgetting that GOV Palin is a GOV of a State. That she controls 23,000 employees (about the entire population of youngstown). That if a war with Russia started being next door to Russia would mean Alaska would be attacked first and its citizens would be in the most danger from bombers and invasion. Also funny how the dems keep forgetting that Obama has no forgeign policy experience at all. He never had to work with Canada for a mjor pipeline. In fact he hurt relations with Canada due to his position on NAFTA and on ther oil sands. So keep it up. The more of these types of things you say the more the Americian people understand that the entire dem party is not ready to lead.

I sure can't wait for Obama/Biden to change the tone of this election. I'm sure its coming any day now.

Posted by: w3bgrrl | Sep 18, 2008 9:13:00 PM

The sleazy demeaning language about Gov. Palin is downright stupid. It says far more about the various surrogates for Sen. Obama than it does about Gov. Palin. Try making the case for your guy and why he should be elected rather than Sen. McCain. Sneering about Gov. Palin's prior experience points out that Sen. Obama hasn't got any executive experience at all (small leagues or big).

Posted by: Jill | Sep 18, 2008 9:13:38 PM

Ed from MA,

Palin's family was threatened by a cop with ethical problems.

=============

Anyway, the population of Alaska is similar to that of Delaware, so someone introducing a Senator from Delaware might want to take that into account.

Posted by: enrique | Sep 18, 2008 9:15:53 PM

Thank you, Democrats, for reminding me how insignificant I am, being from a poor, small town in the middle of nowhere.

You write me off anyway because, after all, I'm only allowed to vote once. Your big city supporters, no doubt, can vote all they want if they know the right people.

Yes, those vouchers cover diapers, food, clothing, medicine, and whatever. I have noticed people seething at these victims before not even considering that most of these people were just like Dem No More before the disaster struck.

If I were the mayor of Youngstown, Ohio with record unenployment, empty store fronts up and down the downtown area, high crime and low expectations. I don't think I would be boasting about much. It does show the kind of leadership Obama would bring though.

Posted by: robtr | Sep 18, 2008 9:20:33 PM

I have lived in Wasilla back in the late 90's. Yes it is a small town with a Super Wal-Mart, about twice as many people living just out side of the Corp. limits than in it, but taken care of by Wasilla. Also do not forget she is still the Governor of the State, much better than a senator who has only been actually at work for about 150 days (the rest of his time was trying to become the most powerful person in the world) and nothing else really in his resume.

For the life of me, I can not see why people question her qualifications but think he is so great. Oh yea he can read a great speech, that must be what the presidency is about...NOT!

Can you give us something specific. And the email hacker...if you are trying to blame that on the Obama campaign, then that is just plain paranoid.

John McCain has sold Sarah Palin to us as somebody who is tough like a pit bull that takes on the corruption of the good ole boys. But the real story seems to be that she is extremely weak and fragile and can't take criticism or eeven questions. And for some reason these 2 Republicon politicians think that she is a victim and they should be treated with "deference". Deference is how you treat the Pope or the QUeen. Who do they think they are?

Posted by: Truth Matters | Sep 18, 2008 9:28:55 PM

I like the fact that Palin is doing so well - and a measure of that is that so many people are yelling about her. The reason as a democrat that I like Palin doing so well is it pokes a big hole in the elitists balloon. What does it really take to be a good president? A level head is probably in the top 5 on that list. Palin seems to have that.

I love the idea that people like Wolfe Blitzer are all in a fuss about it. He and Charles Gibson think of themselves as the elite and they have done nothing for society.

Posted by: dydx | Sep 18, 2008 9:29:15 PM

oh unseen, I'm so sick of the lies from this joke of a campaign.

The NAFTA issue with Canada was created against Senator Obama. It wasn't Senator Obama that winked and nodded, but actually the Clintons. The canadians slyly let that slip out with not one more news cycle after the truth oozed out. A few in the Canadian government were trying to help Clinton...again, since Barack Obama is such a 'different' candidate. At the time, that 'different' candidate was winning.

Actually the dishonorable and lying republicans are not ready to lead. McCain has no 'executive' experience and Sarah Palin has NO experience...executive, foreign, or otherwise. She doesn't have the intellect, the education, the knowledge to even be a Governor. So it appears, the platform she ran on was typical republican...lie to get there, but truly have no clue...they just want to be in office.

With the economy tanking, foreign countries turning against us...we need INTELLECT, EDUCATION, INTELLIGENCE, KNOWLEDGE, JUDGMENT, TEMPERMENT to run this country. The inexperienced republicans will continue to run this country into the ground.

Anyone who has read a paper or watched the news for the past 8 years knows that is a laugh. No other politician has continually crossed over to work with the other party on a multitude of issues over the years.

Sarah Palin has no clue. And Americans putting her in office, only because she is a woman, will regret it when this country implodes due to all the lies and deceit.

Well, the state is smaller in population than Indianapolis.

And the point is SHE uses her "small town mayor" experience as something that gives her credibility to lead the nation. As with ALL of her credentials, it's an inflated assertion that deosn't stand up to the slightest scrutiny.

What? Scrutiny? SEXIST!

I have nothing against Palin personally. But McCain lost all credibility shoveling his "country before party" crap when he chose her as his running mate. She is DANGEROUSLY unknowledgable about the issues this country will address in the next four years.

LA,

Get your facts straight. Obama economic advisor told Canda gov to disregard the attacks that Obama was making on NAFTA because he was lying to the voters to get their vote.

Gov Palin has 2 years experience running a state with a $11 billion dollar budget and 23,000 employees. How is not no experience. She pushed through a landmark reform law, raised taxes on the oil companies, neg a pipeline that will help all of americian pay for their heating bills and electric bills, she has worked with the dems and the rep in her government. McCain has been a Senaotr of 20 years, he commanded soldiers and had to make life and death decsions for not only his men but for himself. Obama was a community organizer that got a bunch of crappy apartments buildings built that were later condemed due tonot meeting building codes.

the gov has been run for the last 20 years by harvard/yale men. And we have $10 trillion in debt, 2 wars going on, a $500 billion neg balance, no energy policy, no border security. Maybe intelligence is in other places than Harvard or Yale because their track record of producing quaility leaders is dismal. The college of Eureka produced the only good president in the last 40 years.

Saying that democracy is the best from of government is like saying the Pacific Ocean holds more water than any tin cup I've ever seen.

Some poeple say that sometimes the people are stupid or lazy and they need a strong leader to see them through.

A democracy ensures that the people get what they deserve.

I almost feel sorry for the dimwit Dems who are trying to make hay of Palin's experience... The poor dears nominated a man who makes Palin look like a retired veteran by comparison, and their VP man has three plus decades experience at getting elected and being wrong about almost every major policy question in his time.

Sorry Dems. Next time, try nominating someone who not only has some experience, (as much as Palin, at least!), and just to be sure, pick someone who's not a far-left radical buddy of Bill Ayers, J Wright, etc.

Screw the haters-- elect Palin/McCain.

*********************************************** The welfare benefits given to people even when you include the welfare cheats (like the corporations that charge the Government for services and goods never rendered or obscenely overpriced), still count for a small fraction of our taxes in comparison to the way our country is being robbed right now with this right wing agenda of redistributing the country's wealth to the rich.

The snide, hateful and rude (not to mention vapid and empty of substance)comments by the Obama worshippers here show exactly what the democrat party is - a party of HATE. That is all they have, folk - no new ideas, nothing good for America - they just HATE - they HATE America, they HATE anyone who has a different opinion, and those people from small towns - they HATE then also. The common thread here is HATE. Well, you nutballs have hated Bush for the last 8 years, and if you think your hate is going to win in November, you are sadly mistaken.

La,

the people that "cleared" the facts up were Obama suporters. Nothing like having your team say the other was lying. Notice that after that little run in Obama stopped attacking Nafta. wonder why? Maybe he didn't want to worsen relations anymore with our number one trading partner and number one supplier of oil?

Obama has lied and cheated every step of this campiagn. he lied about the sex ed for 5 year olds and the media let him get away with it. He is guilty of interfering with Foriegn policy (Logan act) in Iraq which at some times in our history is know as being a traitor and the media let's him get away with it. He intentionally wanted to leave our soldiers in Iraq until after the election so he could get the glory. He has shut down free speech by having his brownshirts muzzel a chicago radio station that dared to bring on someone that had a different view. Not once but twice. He has stated he will require every child in America to be in a draft. Choice of army or civilian service for two years of indoctrination. he has covered up his trips to Pakistian with known drug users when Pakistain was the Herion capital of the world. And all this the media refuse to investigate. He was close personal friends with a known felon Rezko. He got his house by murky means with said Rezko and has never answered questions about it except in a closed door meeting with his hometown meeting.
Obama is a product of the dirtest democratic machine in the country Daley's democratic party in chicago.

This just focuses on the petty stuff.

Continuing the policies of the last 8 years won't work. I want real change.

Throw the bums out.

Haha!
Keep up the teenage attacks and making yourself look even less serious then you are Democrats.

The fanatic, hippy-want-to-be left has ruined the democratic party. The only problem for the party is the serious democrats have not figured that out yet.

MoveOn crowd keep up the good work!

Interviews show that Ms. Palin runs an administration that puts a premium on loyalty and secrecy. The governor and her top officials sometimes use personal e-mail accounts for state business; dozens of e-mail messages obtained by The New York Times show that her staff members studied whether that could allow them to circumvent subpoenas seeking public records.

Okay. Let me come clean. I've been off my meds for a while and I'm experiencing erectile dysfunction. The fact that I'm unable to please any woman, let alone Governor Palin, causes me to lash out at her and at others.

I'm sorry.

Obama has hid from much of the press virtually his whole campaign.

Obama's ties with Fannie Mae and ACORN are a far bigger scandal than the cooked-up Troopergate tosh.

As much as the MSM is in the tank for Obama, sometimes they do McCain/Palin a favor with these posts when everyone trashes Palin and her experience.

It only makes them look smaller, and brings light to how thin Obama's resume really is.

Sarah Palin has been turning a deaf ear to all of her critics, and keeps right on trucking. This woman has the resilliency that only a mother of five could have.

The Dems need to keep this up about GOVERNOR PALIN!!! It sends voters to McCain/Palin IN DROVES. My God, she is the ONLY CANDIDATE WITH EXECUTIVE POWERS GOVERNING CITIZENS...signing checks, supervising troops, hiring, managing cruise industry, building, growing the state...GIVING BACK CHECKS TO THE PEOPLE OF ALASKA from oil companies. SHE IS A BREATH OF FRESH AIR AND McCAIN CAN'T WAIT TO GET HER IN WASHINGTON, AND I CAN'T WAIT EITHER!
She is more representative of middle Americans than the other three, yet she has more experience to make executive decisions on a daily basis, different from a Senator's perspective. The Dems are doing and saying anything to slander her, it won't work.
THEY'RE IN....McCAIN/PALIN! Biden is just old Washington politics as usual and for the record....donated just $3,000 last year. Obama and Michelle only about 1%...vs. the McCain's who have donated 44%.
TAX INCREASES WITH AN OBAMA PRESIDENCY WILL BE THE END OF THIS ECONOMY...AND HE IS PLAYING IT UP TO HIS ADVANTAGE, BUT IN A SOFT ECONOMY, AMERICANS WILL VOTE SECURITY...........McCAIN!!!!

To Democrat no more...
If you are p...o..ed over the family at Target, you must be fuming over our tax dollars ( many, many, many more than $750) going to bail our the Wall Street Crowd....we're talking billions.
Yes, there are people that take advantage of the welfare system, but many people honestly need help. In America people should not go hungry...even it means taking care of some cheats. And, yes, sometimes it seems that we, the middle class, are the only ones paying for it. The poor pay few or no taxes, and the rich shelter all their money.
But, no matter who wins the election, republican or democrat, would you really want to live anywhere else? God Bless America....even with our flaws.

I hate Sarah Palin for not killing her baby! I hate Sarah Palin's 17yr old daughter for not killing HER baby! I will never PUNISH my 17yr old daughter with a baby! Because unlike "haters" like Sarah Palin; I am a compassionate, loving, caring, PROGRESSIVE lib!
I AM BARACK OBAMA AND I APPROVE THIS MESSAGE!

Some people aren't happy unless they have someone to hate. Sound like Democrats have decided Sarah Palin is their target this time around. It says more about them than it says about her.
