Change Tug-O-War Continues on Campaign Trail
September 08, 2008 8:37 PM
ABC News' Matthew Jaffe Reports: In an election where laying claim to "change" could be the key to victory, Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., and presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., are not about to let their Republican opponents Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin steal their message.
"I find it absolutely fascinating that John McCain and the Republican party are claiming the mantle of change now - literally," Biden said at a Monday rally at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines. "They are going to change America?"
"After eight years of abject failure in our foreign policy, after eight years of turning our back on average Americans, after eight years of accumulated debt that is drowning the next generation that follows us, all of a sudden John and his Republican running mate are going to change the culture of Washington?" he asked incredulously.
Not so fast, he warned.
"I have not seen coming out of John's mouth or his running mate's mouth, nor have I seen anything in the last 26 years that I've worked with John, anything that says to me he disagrees with this administration on a single solitary significant policy initiative," he continued. "Not one. Not one."
Biden quoted his running mate's comments criticizing Republicans for underestimating voters' intelligence.
"As Barack said, what do they think we are? Completely stupid? Completely stupid? That they're going to change the way things are?" he said.
Not only did he borrow from Obama, but Biden also ripped off the Republicans' slogan with a line that almost caused the crowd to blow the roof off this fairgrounds farmhouse-style venue.
"They say "country first" - let’s put our country first and let’s put our people first!"
When it comes to understanding the issues, McCain and Palin, Biden said, just don't get it.
"It is stunning, it is literally stunning, how out of touch this administration and John McCain are," he exclaimed.

Uhhh wasn't Biden the head of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee during this horrible time? So, is he saying he has been ineffective?

How to Tell Obama's in Trouble
"Sunday Biden says life begins at conception. Over the weekend Obama said he'll not rescind the Bush tax cuts if the economy remained in trouble. Earlier on O'Reilly he said the surge did work.
Backtracking on the surge, taxes and abortion. Hmm. Next thing you know Obama and Biden will start campaigning in red open-toed shoes and frameless glasses."

Obama has that I do not know what to do next looking grin and fake laugh. I am losing my star status. I can see why he will not do an interview with Mike Wallace. He is talking circles during the Bill OReilly. I can't hardly wait for the debates.

LightSeeker...and, to add to your comments, Obama basically admitted this weekend with George S. that he is a Muslim after all....talk about flip-flopping!

Obama wants to tax the wealthy, and hopefully, something will filter down to the middle and lower class, as he predicts.
The problem with this is that in order to get the country out of a recession, there needs to be investments made. And, the wealthy are the ones who can do the investing. Now, in Obama's ideology, if you tax the wealthy to death, they won't be able to invest, therefore, he would have to push the tax burden on the middle and lower class. Obama is a fruitcake!

NEWSFLASH! THIS JUST IN:
McCAIN IS ACCUSED OF THEFT!
Apparently still reeling from being caught stealing no less than 12,000 US flags from the Democrats in an overnight pillaging raid recently, now authorities are revealing more theft complaints involving McCain and his personal entourage.
As if purloining 12,000 flags and blaming it on local Boy Scouts wasn’t enough, McCain now stands accused of stealing a copy of Gideon's bible from a hotel in Minneapolis during his stay there for the convention earlier this week.
Hotel employees gave a list of several items missing from the Hotel after McCain stayed there, including the Bible. Other missing items included three cocktail glasses, an ice bucket, several bars of soap, three rolls of toilet paper and those tiny little ketchup and mustard bottles.
Boy Scouts den mothers also expressed their dismay given the recent circumstances surrounding the wild accusations that somehow Boy Scouts were wandering the Invesco Arena area during the late hours after the DNC Convention and had stumbled upon 12,000 US flags, which they were then alleged to have stolen and having fenced in Minneapolis to the RNC. “I am shocked” said one mother. “Little Jimmy is home by sunset and tucked in by 8:30 every night, including weekends”.
"These Bibles are no longer free to steal” said the Hotel manager anonymously for fear of scurrilous reprisals by Republican fanatics. “It clearly states on the inside cover that you have to send away now for a free copy of the Gideon’s Bible” exclaimed the Hotel manager.
“You can’t just go willy-nilly taking things as if you own the world” the manager added. “I hear he was illegally downloading music off the internet last month to use in his TV commercials to bash the Democrats.”
Apparently McCain has long suffered from a rare disorder called “Hotel Kleptomania” stemming all the way back to his days in the Hanoi Hilton, where staff still insist he would take spoons, which have not been accounted for to this day. McCain still holds a grudge against the Hiltons, recently implicating young Paris Hilton in one of his regular tirades about Barack Obama, his staunch Democratic rival for the presidency.
The Hiltons were not available for comment, but a spokesperson for the Hotel chain said that McCain has been blacklisted from staying at their hotels since the early 70s due to missing items whenever he would stay at one of their hotels.
This is just one more blow to the McCain camp, still reeling from theft accusations including stealing Barack Obama’s political campaign theme and message as well, a message of change and reform. “We knew he had taken the message”, as did several witnesses who spotted McCain, Washington insider and veteran politician for a quarter century, spouting the term change and reform where several members of the American public were gathered.
One witness said he knew McCain had stolen Obama’s message when he heard McCain having tremendous difficulty pronouncing the word “change”. “It sounded so strange coming from Mr. McCain that you could readily see he was unfamiliar with the concept or how to pronounce the word” said one eye witness. A local panhandler handed McCain a dollar, thinking McCain was begging for a hand out. “I just felt sorry for the guy” said the homeless man, he kept saying “change”.
Mr. Obama stated that “This is a sad day for all Americans” and lamented that McCain really had no message or content of his own to use for his campaign. Mr. Obama volunteered to donate his political message and theme to McCain just as soon as he was finished with them, after November 6th.
Democratic supporters feeling bad for poor McCain have started a campaign and are mailing McCain their loose change.

It's true, Republicans are thieves.
John McCain is yet another example of brazen, cavalier attitude with appalling disrespect for the laws that govern us all. .

david from texas, you ignorant redneck. SHUT UP already...I'm sure you're a pig who is struggling to make ends meet, but your ignorant chip will let you vote for McCain anyway.
In the end...all you saying Obama will lose...NO, YOU WILL, because in the end, Obama will go back to the Senate and work for his Illinois state but you'll get stuck with an OLD politician who comes from the party that fools you into voting for them...and you get nothing in return...hence the last 8 years...but too bad, that's what you get for being ingorant.

CHANGE we can believe in is the Democratic ticket. Change we can make up and try to create boogey men you should fear is the Republican way of Karl Rove. I will vote for and support the candidate who has done great work for me and my fellow veterans Barack Obama. Mc Same was against even the GI Bill and is seen as a downer by his fellow veterans America. Go to you Tube and search POW and Mc Cain and see what his cell mate tells you about if you should trust Mc War and his temperament. OBAMA BIDEN YES WE CAN! Nothing to fear but fear itself and that is what the Republicans do is try and create fear. No Way No How No Mc Cain Palin.

I agree. What change is McCain talking about when he agrees with Bush over 90% of the time. And Palin is a conservative so she probably agrees with Bush about 95% of the time. So what is the change here. Who are they kidding.

Obama has been spending so much money in this race that can only be matched by his lies and hypocrisies. If McCain wins the Presidency, I hope he picked Obama to be on his Cabinate to be an entertainer czar.

Jared: I hate to spoil your dreams but Obama will lose the election and McCain will be president. And you will be crying in your beer and so will Obama. McCain's lead is going to increase while Obama's goes down. Even with Hillary stumping for Obama she can't match Palin. I would like to see a debate between Hillary and Palin. Palin will walk all over Biden and McCain will walk all over Obama.

John: is this Quran deal another of the talking points lies that the boys at the trailer give to you to spread on the Internet. Another damn lie posting. Want to see some real extreme religion in action watch your pit bull with lipstick and the words out of ther pastor and her own mouth at the assemblys of God in Wassilla. Karl Roves tactics worked the last time but I believe America is on to your divide and smear until you make it tactics. Go obama Go.

Obama says change, his change will make the present look great.

These daily polls mean nothing but who people will likely vote for. It's a popular vote. The electoral vote is the one that counts though. I think it will come down to 2 or 3 states that will determine the presidency. And I don't think anyone can predict who that will be right now.
