Fact Check: Obama Misleads on $250,000 Tax Claim

Share

September 26, 2008 10:14 PM

ABC News' Teddy Davis and Nitya Venkataraman Report: During Friday's presidential debate, Sen. Barack Obama provided a loose interpretation of his tax plan, saying that those making less than $250,000 a year "will not see one dime's worth of tax increase."

It's not entirely true.

Obama has called for higher taxes on income, capital gains and dividends for individuals making $200,000 per year; his tax plan imposes higher taxes on couples starting at $250,000 a year.

Same old Obama - twists every word, every sentence until it becomes an out and out lie!

I have always found something suspicious about Obama's claim that 95% of Americans will not pay taxes.

There has to be a catch.

And also, Obama's already back to his "I'll agree with John/Hillary on that one."

Good! If you are a couple making that much money, you're rich. Works for me!

McCain is clearly more fully versed, educated and experienced. While McCain is full of specifics, Obama, as always, is full of general comments. Does it bother anyone else that Sen. McCain always references Sen. Obama, as Sen. Obama, whereas Obama, consistently shows disrespect my calling Sen. McCain "John"?

Well, there isn't enough space on the internet to write about all the lies and twisted realities McCain has thrown around during this debate. He has either misunderstood or just flat out lied about his opponent's position on nuclear energy and even his own advisers' positions on negotiations with Iran. McCain tries at every turn to attack Obama, lie or truth. At least Barack Obama uses facts to attack his opponent.

I am sure Obama is misleading about his entire tax plan.

If you look closely at it. It is identical to The German post war, miracle economy plan, It worked them with the situation they were in, and the circumstances of the times. I do not Think it can work today in the USA.

No matter how he does it, we still will have to pay for our own defense.

Most of Obama's other plans and policies were borrowed, made up or just a way to sweet talk people into voting for him.

What bothers me is McCain blatant campaign of lies, propaganda, and shielding from the press. On his campaign, Rick Davis, received $15000 per MONTH from Freddie Mac since 2005, as reported last Monday, and McCain hasn't fired him.

Lee

You just gave me a reason to vote for John McCain. You are a deadbeat

Obama tonight twisted what he has said in the past. He has associated with criminals and very devisive people. He has said he wants change, yet during his short tenure in the Senate, he has pork-barreled to the amount of over 800 million bucks. He wants to reform everyone but himself. He has little real work experience but thinks he has all the answers for problems inter and intra-nationally. Frankly, he sounds as though he has a true "personality disorder".

McCain looks desperate and tired, but remember McCain's Vice President can see Russia from her backyard.

McCain is a Republican, therefore he cannot be an honest president.

John McCain said he knows Henry Kissinger for 35 years and he would not agree to talks with out preconditions, but the TRUTH IS.. Henry Kissinger is in agreement with Meeting with other without preconditions. How come McCain can't look Barack in the eye. never looked over to his opponent.

So What? I don't make anywhere near that kind of money! Those people making over 200,000 should pay more!

Under Mcsame's plan I'm not getting any favors!!!

Keep in mind that Barack Obama closed by discussing what the American dream has become, while John McCain closed by saying he didn't believe "Obama has the knowledge or experience" to run our country. Just like always, McCain wastes time attacking Obama but comes off as a bumbling, lying fool

Posted by: Walker | Sep 26, 2008 10:44:04 PM

Why is McCain and his group continuing to lie. As an independent and active duty military officer, I do not like the untruths. I am afraid he will lie when ever he needs it. Scary... just checked facts on alot of the issues... too many half truths.

Well, that's better than having a VP who makes up history with a tone as if it were the truth. Just think if Biden had to report on something really important. His story of FDR coming on the television in 1929 was hilarious! He would be quite entertaining, until he says something that risks our safety.

WELL GOOD! it's about TIME Obama got a lesson from how McCain is running his campaign!

I was personally getting tired of the goodie-two-shoes

lol...

but seriously folks, WHAT KIND OF PERSON IS GIULIANI??? why is he doing the work for Palin?

DUDE! you got DUMPED by McCain! have some DIGNITY and tell them to go get VicePresident Barbie ooops I mean PITBULL WITH LIPSTICK to go at it! !!

I thought the debate went well. Both men seemed prepared. Obama still comes off as someone who is a puppet with words and slogans. He mentioned having worked on various pieces of legislation but when you actually look at the voting record it does not support his claim. I just don't think this is the right time for him to become President. He needs more experience and less rhetoric.
