Florida Congressman: Palin 'Don't Care Too Much What They Do With Jews and Blacks'
September 24, 2008 6:21 PM
ABC News' Teddy Davis Reports: Florida Democratic Congressman Alcee Hastings pointed to Sarah Palin on Wednesday to rally Jews to Obama.
"If Sarah Palin isn’t enough of a reason for you to get over whatever your problem is with Barack Obama, then you damn well had better pay attention," said Hastings. "Anybody toting guns and stripping moose don’t care too much about what they do with Jews and blacks. So, you just think this through."
Hastings, who is a member of the Congressional Black Caucus, made his comments in Washington, D.C., while participating in a panel discussion sponsored by the National Jewish Democratic Council.
Asked what the congressman meant, Hastings spokesman David Goldenberg told ABC News that he was trying to argue that Palin is an "extremely conservative woman who is out of touch with mainstream America."
After saying that Palin "don't care too much" about Jews and blacks, Hastings argued that African Americans and Jews should come together behind Obama because there are many issues on which they agree.
"Just like Jews, blacks care about affordable health care, energy independence, and the separation of church and state," said Hastings. "And just like blacks, Jews care about equal pay for equal work, investment in alternative energy, and a woman's right to choose."
Asked about the Hastings criticism, Palin spokeswoman Maria Comella said, "We’re taking a pass."
The Florida GOP responded to Wednesday's panel discussion by calling on Obama to repudiate Hastings.
"Unless Senator Obama and the Florida Democrat Party believes that 'anybody toting guns and stripping moose don't care too much about what they do with Jews and blacks,' both Obama and the FDP should immediately refute this ridiculous and divisive statement."
When contacted by ABC News on Thursday afternoon, the Obama campaign had no response to the Florida GOP.

I have found a way to tell who is truly the best candidate for the presidency of the united states.. It is to listen to what they are saying and then watch what they are doing. If a person says he is a christian, but uses a Koran to swear an oath. If a person, until he was questioned about his refusal to pledge allegiance or say the flag salute, would not, and now does. If a person would not wear an American flag on his suit, like most Americans, and I have seen a personal taped statement as to why one of our candidates would not. Now he does. If a candidate says he is not a muslim, but was a member of a church that not only honored Louis Farakan, but damned the United States. If as candidate is married to a woman who had admitted has never been proud of the United Stated Until now. If a candidate was supported by Louis farakan, of the Nation of Islam If a candidate denied having studied the Koran, but information has been circulated indicating he had.
I would say that what he is saying is not consistent with his true beliefs.
If a candidate has always been a staunch supporter of the United States both in his service, actions and words. If the candidate has always sworn to protect the United states and has consistently suported the united states. I would have to say that his statements have been consistent with his actions.
There are many volatile statements being thrown around in the press. The statement by the Florida congressman is clearly meant to inflame the blacks and jews. Lets stoip listening to the lies and retorict and watch what they do. It will tell the whole story. There is no way a racist would get to be governor today without the whole racist history uncovered. It appears that it is not the truth, but a ploy to anger those who would normally support her.
I want a president and vice president who is committed to the United States Constitution, its government, and its citizens.
The choice is clear. One does and one does not.

Hastings is a convicted felon and a racist. Why would anyone listen to him.

That is odd because I know several blacks who love hunting as much as anyone else. Doesn't it sound like Hastings is promoting black stereotypes? Not everyone who is black lives in an urban environment, and not everyone who does is ghetto and talks with the poor English that Representative Hastings does.

I can't understand how so many people can be so out of touch with their food that they condem hunters who kill and prepare game for consumption. We here in Alaska live a lifestyle that has been lost in much of the lower 48. If anyone is out of touch it is those who condem self sufficient individuals who don't get everything from the local supermarket. I also have to say that only an idiot would make a statement that the governer of the biggest wilderness state in the union would have rotting moose caribou and elk in their back yard is just plane ignorant. For one thing their are no elk in main land Alaska plus it is aginst the law to waste game meat in Alaska. Either get it right or keep your mouth shut. "Now" what does any of this have to do with jews and blacks? Are these people high?

In addition to comments by Issac in making presidential choice. Be sure and study their voting record on key issues important to you as a citizen. Watch how the tunes change in campaign rhetoric. Obama did not sign the friends of court document presented to the Supreme Court by the Senate in Heller vs DC supporting our 2nd amendment as an "individual" right. He has voted for every anti gun law that has come across his desk and supported every measure that regulates ammunition sale and purchase and where it is located. Now he is friend to the hunter in Pennsylvania and agrees with the Supreme Court? Now he threatens lawsuits against television and radio stations that display his voting record? Now he wants your 1st amendment right.
Constitutional rights according to Obama's interpretation get a bit scary.
Every genocide in recorded history was preceded by the confiscation of weapons and the restriction of congregation. Bar none. Voting record is also historical and no lie can cover up history.
Obama can side step his study of the Koran and his failure to salute the flag. He can also distance himself from Hastings. Let him try to side step his documented voting record.
If Palin did not provoke the reaction she has in the Obama camp is when I would have gotten worried.

I am appalled by this man's stupidity! However,You can't fix it and it's not against the law.....obviously! Do we in America actually not see the gist of this entire election? It is ALL and ONLY gonna be about RACE! Listen to the religion sector on the website theobamafile.com. 20 yrs at a church of Obama's choosing...with his close spiritual advisor. Except now he has distanced himself from the pastor. All that has been and continues to be spoken is about race. Try on...God is black and if he isn't he should be killed.... Holy Cow! Listen for yourselves. I am a bitter gun owner and I vote!!!!!!!

This is crazy!!! Why are they not even pressing for legal action against him? This is defimation of character and oh my...terrible. First of all, Obama causes the stock market crash indirectly, with the legal action he took in 93 against the gov for his client to make a bank loan money. Then he and several others ramrod a bill through to law with Clinton's help forcing banks to lend to questionable credit clients around 2000. Then in 2005 when Bush says that it looks bad for the banks and there financial stability is in question, Biden jumps on the house floor along with Palosi and many others saying the banks are not in trouble and it is not right that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac make lots of money while low income minorities cannot get loans. Now, this and many many more...how much do you need to hear before you say enough...VOTE MCCAIN PALIN...they'll at least be honest and tell you before the sting!!!

Hastings is a race baiting idiot. The Democrats are beside themselves with worry about this woman, and rightly so, she is a contender. I can't remember a presidential campaign where one political party spent so much time and effort, in an attempt to absolutely destroy the opposing vice presidential candidate. That is true desperation.
Sarah Palin and her family, to me anyway, represent the values and ideals of the majority of middle America. It certainly isn't the drug and alchol addled Hollywood fruitcakes, most of whom have the morals of alley cats, that represent or speak for me. These self important people make their living pretending to be someone else. How exactly does they qualify them as political experts? We all have our opinions, usually expressed around the dinner table or water cooler, but these chuckle heads use their access to the media to spout their vitriol and bile, and no one calls them on it. But, let Governor Palin or Senator McCain make one perceived misstep, and these creeps and the media types are on it like hyenas on carion.

I guess I must hate myself and didn't know it. I don't like racists of any color. I'm Jewish and yet I've hunted moose, I prefer elk meat myself and I tote a firearm both for hunting and self defense.
Having spent a little time stationed in Alaska anyone who ventures very far from the edge of town had better be toting a firearm (preferably a rifle of significant power and a pistol).
I find that despite being a hunter, a CCW permit holder, a Jew and a member of a racial minority (one of the few that isn't recognized as such for Equal Opportunity or Affirmative Action purposes) It didn't seem to me that preferential treatment of certain minorities or their apparent free pass to treat Caucasians and other minorities in a disparaging and disrespectful manner was anything but racist. As to Mrs. Palin, she too is a hunter, a person who is of modest working class origins who also happens to hunt. She's been the victim of vicious and unwarranted attacks by a seemingly rabidly hateful group of people who have spread a variety of lies and slanders about her that have no basis in fact. But are for the most part akin to walking up to a person in a crowded room and saying, 'have you stopped beating your mother yet?' I'd wish that people would get real and let the attacks be about issues and about actions. Oh, wait, the other Presidential candidate has taken very few actions save for being 'present' when issues of a contentious nature must be decided.

No, really, it's true. You DID know that the NRA is an offshoot group of the Ku Klux Klan, right? You DID know that, didn't you? You DO understand that the original purpose of the NRA was to assure that enough white people in the south owned guns to prevent an uprising of freed slaves in the early part of the 20th century, right?
You DID know that, right? You understand that the NRA and most "gun rights" groups in America are fundamentally racist, right? You realize that their entire purpose revolves around "keeping down the niggers", right?
Let me repeat - the NRA is an offshoot of the KKK. Many American gun owners and hunters are racist rednecks. Many of them would kill Jews and niggers if they had the chance. Period.

Re: Joe Six Pack
What planet are you from? The NRA was founded in New york State in 1871 by two Union, not Confederate but Union army officers, Colonel William C. Church and General George Wingate. The first shooting range was on Long Island and later moved to Sea Girt New Jersey, both states being in the heart of the UNION, not the CONFEDERACY. The KKK was formed in the heart of the former CONFEDERACY by disgruntled southerners, angry at loseing the war. Let me make that very plain for you, the NRA was STARTED IN THE NORTH, BY NORTHERNERS, it has no association with the KKK. By far, the largest majority of blacks killed in this country by firearms are killed by other blacks using illegal and illegaly carried weapons, not a bunch of white guys roaming the hood after their NRA meeting.
I nave been an NRA member for many years and have been to several national conventions. I have never witnessed or heard anything like what you are claiming. I belong to two shooting ranges, both with black members. One in particular is about 30% black. We all share the range, we all get along and we cooperate with each other. Are some NRA members racist rednecks? Probably, but I doubt the percentage of these NRA members is any different than their prevalence in society at large. The NRA sponsors very strong firearms, hunter safety, and marksmanship programs. There is no hidden agenda. We don't wear white sheets at our meetings or burn crosses on anyones lawns. When we get together, we mostly talk about our familes, politics, fishing, hunting, and firearms, the same stuff most people who enjoy the outdoors talk about.
If it weren't for the NRA and other so called, gun rights groups, our Second Amendment rights would have been sent down the river, mostly by your liberal, leftist, Democrat buddies, long ago. Now, I don't know if the right to self defense is important to you, but it is to me, my family, and many millions of other American citizens. If all that bothers you, if you don't like our Bill of Rights, then I suggest you take your sorry as-ed, race baiting, liberal ideas , which have no basis in fact, and move to the semi Socialist country of Canada. It isn't far and nobody up ther can own a decent firearm, except for the criminals of course, they apparently don't pay much attention to those pesky gun control laws. TaTa

Funny how the socialists hallucinate "coded" racism eveywhere among conservatives, yet their genuine racism and anti-semitism is completely out in the open and acceptable. What a demogogue. Unfortunately, most Jews and blacks continue to vote for the party that treats them like idiots. I'm Jewish and proudly voting for McCain and Palin.

MY OPINION
Liberals are either blind & deaf or just plain stupid. How can you follow a party that wants you to do more so lazy people dont have to do anything. If you find one that admits to being wrong or takes responcability for his own actions please show him how to become a conservative.America is to great a country to become Obamas favorite welfare state or a member of the Europian Union.

Alcyee Hastings is a Florida embarrassment...he is elected by the same kind of people that kept electing Cynthis McKinney in Ga...loosers!
Alcyee Hastings is in that old "blame the whitey " frame of mind that Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton have been in since the '60's.
He is a poor excuse of a spokes person for any group of people...and I happen to know that the Jewish Federation of South Florida....is behind McCain.
