Hot Mic in St. Paul
September 03, 2008 5:59 PM
ABC News' Sara Just reports: It seems that Republicans Peggy Noonan and Mike Murphy were caught in a bit of unguarded conversation today. Watch the clip below.
Noonan, a former speechwriter to Ronald Reagan and a Wall Street Journal columnist, and Murphy, a longtime GOP campaign strategist, were guests on MSNBC when host Chuck Todd breaks for a commercial. The camera cuts to a wideshot, but the audio continues for another couple of minutes, as the GOPers debate the selection of Sarah Palin as John McCain’s running mate, including:
Murphy: It's not going to work.
Noonan: It's over.
Murphy: But still, McCain can give a version of the Lieberman speech to do himself some good.
Todd: I think this was insulting to Kay Bailey Hutchinson ... She’s never looked comfortable with this.
Murphy: they’re all bummed out.
Todd: I mean, is she really the most qualified woman they could have turned to?
Noonan: The most qualified? No. I would think they went for the, excuse me, political bull***t about narratives...
Noonan: Every time Republicans do that, because that's not where they live and it's not what they're good at, they blow it.
Murphy: You know what's really the worst thing about it? The greatness of McCain is no cynicism and this is cynical.

This is revealing. I wish you could embed this before it's taken off You tube. Right now the counter says it has had 215 views, but has been favorited more than 400 times. I wonder what the real count is....
Someone's trying to stop it from going viral? Or at least showing up on the You tube charts.
Amazing....

Jesse Jackson said what he really thought about Obama and it didn't effect him. This won't either. Plus Obama is the TOP of the ticket.
Seriously, this is weak, but glad to see you're excited over nothing. Shows desperation.

Noonan looks like she would be fun for a romp, not a conversation.
Posted by: Sluggo | Sep 3, 2008 6:20:50 PM
Peggy Noonan is no McCain fan. This is not surprising.

Its not NBC that wants it to be shown. Someone else put it on you.tube.

Let me get this straight... PUNDITS left their MIC ON and this MEANS SOMETHING? OK!!!! They must be the Super-Duper Delegates, right? And what moron Sound Engineer "accidentally" left the mic on AT JUST THE RIGHT TIME? GET REAL! Another ploy by MSM!

hahah
LarryMan

This isn't the "libs" breathlessly reporting.
These are two REPUBLICAN pundits expressing their truthful OPINIONS when they thought their mikes were off.
Who knew Republicans could be so savvy?
Posted by: mila | Sep 3, 2008 6:25:19 PM
What marvels me is that they are all Republicans hiding but saying the TRUTH. Now when they finish, they come out and attack the same Media or Obama's camp to divert attention. But now we have their voices on tape. All we need is to play it over and over again. Sarah experience? Play the tape. Reformist? Play the tape.

Wow! Republicans being honest! Who'da thunk it?
Posted by: Will | Sep 3, 2008 6:25:49 PM
So disappointed with Peggy Noonan. Thought she was the real, real deal. For her to write about Palin one way in her WSJ column and then to hear this. Very disillusioned. It is not the strongly implied criticism of Palin but the hypocrisy. Damn.

Again... PUNDITS who's words mean NOTHING! And again, how can this be a "mistake"? Sound Engineers lose their jobs over "errors" like this. I know, I am one. There's no way this is real. It's GOT to be staged, or else that Engineer is going to be on the Unemployment line a LOOOOONG time!
Posted by: submix8c | Sep 3, 2008 6:29:17 PM
Doesn't matter what they really think, republicans are always good party nazis and go the party line in lock step no matter how harmful to the country.

Its hard to compete with Democrat stupidity but Noonan and Murphy are right up there with the little people.

Jo - can you spell I-N D-E-N-I-A-L?
McCain may have been a POW who fought in VietNam (one of the dirtiest wars we've ever been involved in) but that makes him no more qualified than Obama, who happens to be way smarter and has a much better temperament. McCain's just trying any kind of gimmick he can think of to win. Palin as VP? Gimme a break. This is just plain stupid thinking. This has nothing to do with her family situation or the so-called "mommy wars." That's totally irrelevant. But thinking of her being one step away from the white house is absurd, scary and ridiculous. (Jesse Jackson's remarks were just a case of sour grapes. Obama reached the heights that Jackson aspired to but couldn't attain.)

Ha Ha Ha!
They spoke the absolute truth.
McCain is an idiot. This is how he makes important decisions? Better to know now, than to elect that fool!
