Iranian Leader Animated During Bush UN Address

ABC News' Jennifer Duck Reports: While President Bush was giving his final address as president to the United Nations General Assembly, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was smiling and waving to U.S. journalists who were situated in a booth many feet above the gathered audience of world leaders.

The Iranian president waved a number of times to members of the White House press corps who were nearly 100 yards away on the opposite side of the room.  At one point during the speech the Iranian leader gestured with a thumbs-down to the leader on his right.

President Bush refuses to sit down with the Ahmadinejad who in the past has said Israel should be “wiped off the map” and has called the Holocaust a “myth.”

In his address, President Bush stressed the need to “remain vigilant against proliferation” and specifically called on enforcing sanctions against North Korea and Iran.

“Nations like Saudi Arabia and Pakistan are actively pursuing the terrorists,” Bush said. “A few nations — regimes like Syria and Iran — continue to sponsor terror. Yet their numbers are growing fewer, and they’re growing more isolated from the world.”

Ahmadinejad later addressed the Assembly saying Iran will not abandon its nuclear ambitions as has been repeatedly demanded by the United Nations Security Council. 

"The Iranian nation is for dialogue but it has not accepted and will not accept illegal demands," Ahmadinejad said.

With the U.S. economy in turmoil, President Bush attempted to assure the world that Congress and the administration are “working together to quickly pass legislation" to stabilize the rocky markets.

“In recent weeks we've taken bold steps to prevent a severe disruption of the American economy, which would have a devastating affect on other economies around the world,” Bush said. “I’m confident we will act in urgent time frame required."   

On timing of economic legislation, White House Deputy Press Secretary Tony Fratto ruled out the possibility that Congress would fail to act on the legislation this week.

“I think you should think of that as unthinkable,” Fratto told reporters. “I think we are all arm-in-arm focused on the need to get it done.”

How did Jimmy Carter deal with Iran? He hid out in the WH. If Jimmy had a pair maybe we wouldn’t be in any of this middle east mess at all. Iran has sponsored all of the militant islamofascist around the world. What did Bubba do about Iran? He got a BJ and then he smoked a cigar. He did nothing about these thugs and their surrogates for 8 years. Maybe if Clinton had his eye on the ball instead of Monica’s eyes on his balls we wouldnt have had 9/11. You guys need to grow up, you cannot blame everything on Bush. Democrats never ever want to fess up when its thier fault.

President Dwight Eisenhower invited Soviet leader, Nikita Khrushchev to the White House.

President John F. Kennedy met with Khruchchev in 1961.

President Nixon met with Brezhnev in 1972

President Reagan met with Gorbachev

President Clinton met with Pyongyang of Vietnam

All these evil empires, yet so many Presidents not afraid to go toe to toe with them. McCain/Palin won't even go toe to toe with the press.

The whole problem in Iran began in 1953 when President Dwight D. Eisenhower authorized Operation Ajax. Ever since then, it has been a long string of blunders on both sides.

How many humans have the Iranian leader murdered and how many wars started during his tenure as President?

How many has the American leader murdered, and war started?

Many Americans are badly in need of a raised educational standard. In this way, they will be better able to make good judgment about good leaders versus bad ones!

How very true. The FBI defines terrorism as:

"the unlawful use of force or violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives."

By that definition, and given that one of the many changing reasons for invading Iraq was to enact a "Regime Change", Bush and Co. should be held accountable for their crimes.

How much influence does Saudi Arabi have on terrorists.
They always seem to have little comment, when speaking about terrorism.
What does the Arab League do since they live in the middle of it all? Nothing.
Don't they share OIL with McCains Buddies?
Is McCain planning on selling America, as STOCK, to foreign oil companies?

Ahmadinejad is waving and smiling because he knows something most of us don't---- Bush already made a deal with him.

Yup. He can afford to be happy. Bush promised not to attack Iran. Iran stopped sending suicide bombers against US troops in Iraq so John McCain could claim "the surge" has worked.

And Iran helped lower crude oil prices before crossing the $150 barrel.

No attack. No blockade. No new sanctions. Pretty good deal. Plus a visa for this trip to New York.
