Palin Talks; Pakistan President Impressed By Alaska Gov.
September 24, 2008 2:41 PM
ABC News' Kate Snow and Imtiyaz Delawala report: Turns out Alaska Governor Sarah Palin has the power to make world leaders gush too.
"Now I know why the whole of America is crazy about you," said Pakistan's new President Asif Ali Zardari at one point during their one-on-one meeting this afternoon. Zardari raved that Palin was 'even more gorgeous in life' and joked with the Governor at one point as they were directed by an aide to pose for photos. "I'm supposed to pose again," Palin said. "If he keeps insisting, I might hug," Zardari shot back, prompting laughter in the room.
Zardari was the fourth head of state Palin has met today in New York on her second round of meetings with world leaders this week. The meetings were all introductory by design. None lasted longer than a half hour.
The Governor was never heard talking about the financial crisis or the bailout legislation now pending before Congress. Earlier in the day, Palin told CBS News that congressional action was needed to prevent "another Great Depression."
"Unfortunately, that is the road that America may find itself on. Not necessarily this-- as it's been proposed-- has to pass or we're going to find ourselves in another Great Depression."
Despite the dire prediction, Palin seemed to be enjoying her trip to New York. She was last in the city in October 2007.
"It's going great. These meetings are very informative and helpful and a lot of good people sharing appreciation for America," Palin said in an answer to one of the many questions thrown her way. She ignored other questions.
At a meeting with Iraqi President Jalal Talabani, Palin was asked for her thoughts about driving past Ground Zero, which she had passed on the way to the Ritz hotel at Battery Park on New York's southern tip, where she met Talabani. According to the TV producer in the room, Palin looked as though she wanted to answer the question, paused briefly but then hesitated and then just nodded.
Palin was joined earlier in the day by Sen. John McCain to meet with Ukraine's President Viktor Yushchenko and Georgia's President Mikheil Saakashvili. While the McCain-Palin campaign allowed reporters access to these meetings for a longer period than yesterday, they were still extremely guarded with the press.
Through a translator, Yushchenko praised the US-Ukranian relationship and solicited nods from Governor Palin when he talked about the importance of energy issues.
Saakashvili praised McCain and the US for standing in solidarity with Georgia telling McCain that he was "honored" to meet him today.
"I have to say that we greatly appreciate the huge solidarity we felt from the American people," Saakashvili told McCain according to the pool report. "Senator McCain was inspiration to me since many many years, like he has been inspiration to so many people who value freedom all around the world and that should never be underestimated." Saakashvili also added that he was 'thrilled' to meet Governor Palin.
In an interview with ABC News' Charles Gibson, Palin expressed strong support for Georgia stressing that a McCain-Palin administration would "be committed to Georgia." Palin also told Gibson that she supports putting both Ukraine and Georgia in NATO.
But Saakashvili didn't only praise the GOP ticket, he also complimented Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden— who he'll visit Friday in Milwaukee, calling him a "great help and support."
Both McCain and Palin also spoke with singer and activist Bono over the phone. Just after Sen. McCain announced his intention to suspend his campaign to deal with the economic crisis, he and Palin spoke with Bono about the ongoing efforts to fight poverty, AIDS and malaria around the globe.

Buzz up!John McCain, whose ads skewer Barack Obama for his "celebrity" status, has his own close ties to show business, the new issue of Us Weekly reports exclusively.
The 72-year-old was recently made TV-ready by makeup artist Tifanie White who's worked on So You Think You Can Dance and American Idol.
McCain paid the 2002 beauty-school grad $5,583.43 for her services, according to the Federal Election Commission.

I believe Palin is so interesting to the nation that Mc Cain wants her to keep a low profile and the spotlight to specifically shine on him . There is a huge debate coming up on Friday and he and Obama need the focus squarely on them.
Biden has probably been told the same thing but his nature is to shoot from the hip and has trouble keeping his mouth shut.

With the way the McCain campaign handled Sarah's first excursion with foreign leaders it would have been less embarrassing if those leaders would have just walked up to a cardboard cutout of her allowing the horde of photographers to get their best shot.

I'm sure Palin has been to Georga, and she said Atlanta was very hot.
she is and idiot and the fact that she just picked up a passport for the first time ever!!! is all I need to know...

Here is the McCain/Palin campaign summed up in one word (definition provided):
PROPAGANDA
Propaganda often presents facts selectively (thus lying by omission) to encourage a particular synthesis, or gives loaded messages in order to produce an emotional rather than rational response to the information presented. The desired result is a change of the cognitive narrative of the subject in the target audience to further a political agenda.

Obama never visited western europe in his whole life before last july.
Obama is way up in the polls and the media is still pummeling Palin every day.
All I know if there isn't a change in the media we now live in a one party country.
The media is 85 percent registered democrats.
This is not healthy for democracy.
Enough already.
The media is so far left that we could have had a brilliant policy wonk in Hillary Clinton.
The media cost us a great president. This is not healthy for this country.
Obama has never ever been vetted.

McCain wants to stop campaigning because of the crisis! What a chicken. No debate. What a chicken.
I think this has more to do with the polls showing him going to the s*can and Davis being a mortgage industry lobbyist.
Don't fall for it Obama. Don't fall for it America.
John McCain "When the going gets tough make an excuse."
We have the military set to handle two wars at once but John McCain can only handle one crisis at a time.

McCain want the debate postponed!

Yes.

I agree with Whoopi Goldberg. It's time for the talking heads to stuff it and let's hear Palin talk to the issues. The attack ads from both sides are meaningless. The photo ops are meaningless. Don't throw her in the water with the opposition throwing in chum for the sharks, but otherwise
Let Palin Be Palin.
I think THAT will be very interesting.

Palin is giving an interview with Couric tonight.
Get off of her already.
When are you ever going to vet Obama.
Never. He has a huge lead and you are pummeling the VP candidate. Unreal. This election is unreal.
Shouldn't we do a little vetting on Obama who has no economic experience and had never been to europe before july.
Obama has a huge lead and has never been vetted.

Matt: "she is and idiot..."
I'll bet she does very well during her debate with Biden. I'm a bit cynical, so I can add its easy to stick to your talking points, when they're all you know, and you just learned them yesterday.
But stick to her talking points she will - and she'll sound good doing it - and of course the debate format won't allow her to be pressed beyond those talking points.
Biden debates well, too. He isn't a gaffe machine at the podium. So I'm expecting a good showing from both of them.

Obama never visited europe before this july.
Obama is a joke.
McCain has gone to nato security conferences in europe for decades.
Obama is running at the top of the ticket and is a joke and the left is obsessed about palin.
Obama been to europe once in his life in july.
Obama is not qualified for the top of the ticket.
Hillary should be the nominee.
Obama the sexist said Hillary's experience was having tea with foreign leaders.
Posted by: Jeff | Sep 24, 2008 3:06:27 PM
She had better be ready for Biden in the debate next month. Palin must learn more because the debate is not going to be easy.

If we are all Georgians now, how does meeting with Saakashvilli count as meeting a foreign leader? According to Colin Powell, Georgia started the conflict with Russia. Hope she asked about that.
