Live From New York, It's Sarah (Tiny Fey) Palin!

Share

September 14, 2008 8:48 AM

ABC News' David Wright and Alyssa Litoff Report: As comedienne Tina Fey debuted her impression of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin on Saturday Night Live, the governor and her staff were watching from 30,000 feet.

Palin was on board her campaign jet flying from Reno to Denver as 11:30 PM Eastern rolled around. But the show was available on the Jetblue charter's satellite TV system.

Standing alongside SNL cast member Amy Poehler who was impersonating Hillary Clinton, Fey's Palin extolled her foreign policy expertise in a flat midwestern accent: "I can see Russia from my house!"

There were howls of laughter from the sizeable press corps covering Palin's first foray on the campaign trail without her running man as a chaperone.

But, from the front of the plane, silence. The flight attendants assured us Palin and her entourage were watching. What she thought, though, is anybody's guess.

Palin has yet to say so much as hello to the press corps.

The campaign is doing its best to keep Palin well away from inquisitive reporters, going so far as to book the press corps into a separate hotel from the candidate.

To bad Obama put a MUZZLE on his American hating wife until after the election. I think Obama has Rev Wright tied up until after the election.

Posted by: scrambler | Sep 14, 2008 8:53:24 AM

Its a shame the media still shows its perverted love affair for Obama. How long did the MEDIA sit on the Rev Wright story. Or how the media never reports that Obama used pay to play politics with scum like Rezko.

ABC News' George Stephanopoulos and the rest of the NEWS heads act like sick in love school girls when ever they talk about Obama. You would think they are gay and have an infatuation for Obama. MSNBC is the worst.

Posted by: dandlion | Sep 14, 2008 8:56:51 AM

ABC is nothing but a free advertising source for Obama. The Wall Street Journal had it right when they said the Major News Media is nothing but over paid PAPARAZZI looking for that perfect picture shot of Obama

Posted by: uhy | Sep 14, 2008 8:59:14 AM

Saturday Night Live really bashed Palin last night.

They ridiculed everything about her for not knowing what the Bush doctrine is to her "for the Bridge to Nowhere before was against it".

My husband and I were totally cracking up!

All of America demands Obama release the IP addresses of all the donated internet money. And how much of that really came from big money donors or foreign donors of Islamic countries. If you believe the crock that most of itcame from small donors you need to be whipped and flogged.

The press has fallen under Palin spell and is not calling her on all her LIES.

Palin is not only Pro-Life but she is PRO-LIE!!

Right now McCain is battling Palin as who will be the BIGGEST LIAR IN CHIEF.

The ARMY TIMES has come out AGAINST McCain!

Palin is anything BUT a feminist. Under Palin, Wasilla charged Victims of Rape for Rape kits - Alaska had to enact a law to stop Palin from charging for Rape Kits.

Pass it on!

Under Palin, Wasilla charged rape victims for exam

Submitted by admin on September 11, 2008 - 12:01pm.

Two state leaders lashed out at the public record of Gov. Sarah Palin on Wednesday as witnesses in a new "Alaska Mythbusters" forum coordinated by supporters of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.Speaking to a teleconference audience of reporters around the nation, former Gov. Tony Knowles and current Ketchikan Mayor Bob Weinstein -- both Democrats -- accused Palin of misleading the public in her new role as the vice presidential running mate of Arizona Sen. John McCain.

While some of their complaints have already been aired, Knowles broke new ground while answering a reporter's question on whether Wasilla forced rape victims to pay for their own forensic tests when Palin was mayor.

True, Knowles said.Eight years ago, complaints about charging rape victims for medical exams in Wasilla prompted the Alaska Legislature to pass a bill -- signed into law by Knowles -- that banned the practice statewide."There was one town in Alaska that was charging victims for this, and that was Wasilla,"

Knowles saidA May 23, 2000, article in Wasilla's newspaper, The Frontiersman, noted that Alaska State Troopers and most municipal police agencies regularly pay for such exams, which cost between $300 and $1,200 apiece."(But) the Wasilla police department does charge the victims of sexual assault for the tests," the newspaper reported. It also quoted Wasilla Police Chief Charlie Fannon objecting to the law. Fannon was appointed to his position by Palin after her dismissal of the previous police chief. He said it would cost Wasilla $5,000 to $14,000 a year if the city had to foot the bill for rape exams."In the past we've charged the cost of exams to the victims' insurance company when possible," Fannon told the newspaper. "I just don't want to see any more burden put on the taxpayer."An effort to reach Fannon by phone Wednesday was not successful.Knowles and Weinstein also went after the Republican ticket on several statements now airing in campaign ads around the nation, including Palin's claim that she opposed federal money for the "bridge to nowhere."The governor has refused to acknowledge her explicit support for the $230 million Gravina Island Access Project in her effort to sound more like an anti-earmark reformer to a national audience, Weinstein said. And she still supports spending $400 million to $600 million on "the other Bridge to Nowhere," the Knik Arm Crossing, which would provide residents in Palin's hometown of Wasilla faster access to Anchorage, Knowles added."That project is moving right ahead," said Knowles, who served as governor of Alaska from 1994 to 2002. "The money for that project was not diverted anywhere else. ... So (for her) to say she said, 'Thanks, but no thanks....' I would say she said, 'Thanks!'"A phone call to Meg Stapleton, a spokeswoman for the Alaska office of the McCain-Palin campaign, was not returned Wednesday. However, the Republican side lost little time in organizing a national truth squad of its own to battle what it considers "smears" of Palin by Democrats. A list of the names of more than 50 members of a Palin truth team, posted Monday on the Atlantic Monthly magazine Web site, included three Alaskans: Stapleton (a former Palin aide); Kristan Cole, a longtime friend; and Republican Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell. As a former governor, Knowles said, he's reluctant to criticize an active governor. But he decided to make an exception with Palin."In this situation it's not just a sitting governor," he said. "Our current governor is a candidate for the vice presidency and a heartbeat away from the presidency."

Posted by: disillusioned2008 | Sep 14, 2008 9:09:17 AM

The McCain/Palin supporters really need to grow up. Here they are complaining about stupid, petty, trivial things when their VP candidate is increasingly being exposed as a corrupt, unethical, and power hungry person. I've read several articles just this morning about some of the things she's done as governor of Alaska (never mind what she did as mayor of Wasilla). There's a common theme emerging about Sarah Palin and it's pretty ugly. So before the McCain/Palin supporters get all bent out of shape you might want to take a look at your own candidates. John McCain is now being called out as a liar (check the non-partisan groups like factcheck.org and politfact) and Sarah Palin is embroiled in an investigation of abuse of power. Those are real concerns to me and they should be to most Americans. Can we afford 4 more years with a President and VP who show no regard for our country by lying to us and abusing their power when hiring and firing people?

Before you crtizize Palin on experience is that what Obama is lacking. Palin has done more before her 21st birthday while Obama was doing crack at 21. McCain was a POW at 21 serving our country. YOU SCUM BUCKET

Not only did everyone beat the McCain team in defining Sarah Agnew...I mean Palin she provided all the necessary tools to get the job done.

Palin is the gift that keeps on giving, better yet she's sort of like a blessing from God.

Hey Obama followers-

Keep up the sexist name calling. Please! Keep doing it. It really shows the kind of people you are. Every nasty comment made you people pushes women over to McCain/Palin's side. You're digging your own grave, dumbasses.

Posted by: Patrick | Sep 14, 2008 9:26:47 AM

Patrick...there appears to be plenty of name calling on both sides including from you. If you want to stop it you might start with yourself.

How old are "U"? Nice slogans. They really set you apart from your ridiculous counterparts. Keep blogging!

Posted by: Patrick | Sep 14, 2008 9:33:55 AM

Shay--

If Obama wasn't referring to the woman as a PIG than what was he referring to?

It is the way everyone perceives his comment. He was backed into a corner and the media let him go again.

Posted by: michael | Sep 14, 2008 9:34:48 AM

What does this article have to do with Obama?

Seriously guys.

I know you guys get paid to monitor news articles and try to spin reality with ludicrous posts about Obama, but give it a rest. Sarah Palin is a train wreck, and every Republican operative on every laptop in the country isn't going to change that.

If people want to vote for the Republican Party to lead us out of the collapse of all our financial institutions when they've been in office for eight years, be my guest.

And ladies, you finally have the opportunity to vote for a woman and end your reproductive rights! Woo-Hoo!

Posted by: The Obvious | Sep 14, 2008 9:35:04 AM

It becomes involved with Obama when bloggers post comments pro-Obama. People don't know what the heck Obama is for yet they plan on voting for the person least like Bush.

Obama wants to give Illegals the right to vote....(www.barackobama.com)

Why do I have this funny feeling that disillusioned2008 and Patrick are the same person?

Posted by: El_Pajaro | Sep 14, 2008 9:40:17 AM

He probably did... Yet the media is comparing Obama to a savior. Do you know his policies Mary OR are you just a blind follower?

Posted by: michael | Sep 14, 2008 9:41:46 AM

michael...you're wrong about Obama and illegals voting. In fact, he and McCain had the same exact stand on immigration reform until McCain flipflopped and sold his soul to the devil.

Posted by: Mary | Sep 14, 2008 9:42:11 AM

She lies with such an ease, it's unbelievable, and when she gets caught she continue to stand by the lies.
She must think everybody is stupid or she is incredibly dumb.

Posted by: Rick | Sep 14, 2008 9:43:03 AM

Not very much class on a lot of these posts. Even McCain, who was going to run a clean campaign, has sunk to the gutter with disgusting, deceitful ads. I used to like the guy. It's also very funny how we have all these newly converted feminists and Hillary sympathizers who have suddenly found a distaste for sexist remarks. Give it up, people. Hillary supporters know what she stands for and know what Palin stands for. Finally, ask yourself one thing: if McCain was really "Country First," why did he pick someone so clearly unqualified to possibly be the leader of the USA?

Posted by: Phil | Sep 14, 2008 9:43:14 AM

No his own website says it....

he wants to 'eliminate any discrimatory barriers to voting."
Either 1) Illegals 2) Felons 3) Minors

Posted by: michael | Sep 14, 2008 9:43:45 AM

The "train wreck" is Obama's campaign. He really blew it when he reversed on wire tapping, public money for campaigns, and not picking Hillary. But picking, instead, a memeber of the Washington insiders ol' boy group (the very group he had been saying has ruined the country.)

The "lipstick on a pig" comment would have been just another phrase, as it always has been, IF Sarah Palin hadn't JUST used it in her speech. It was obvious what he was doing, and he thought he would get away with it because it wasn't totally blatant, but no one missed the point he made.

Posted by: Lisa | Sep 14, 2008 9:44:35 AM

michael...I don't hear anyone comparing Obama to a savior except Fox News and some of the diehard McCain supporters. And yes, I'm very familiar with how Obama stands on the issues.

Posted by: mk | Sep 14, 2008 9:47:08 AM

michael,

It is called a metaphor and he was referring to McCain's policies, like McCain was when he used the SAME expression while referring to Hillary's health care plan.

Get it?

Save the the energy you spend on fake outrage, and look up the expression and find out what it means. If he was looking to define Palin with one word it would hardly be "pig". That doesn't even make any sense.

If he wanted to be accurate, he would have said, "You can put lipstick on an uninformed yokel..."

Posted by: The Obvious | Sep 14, 2008 9:47:11 AM

Has anyone else noticed that the first several responses on any board that has an article about Palin are from the pin head right?
I've heard about the rapid (rabid) response group that posts comments speaking the same Fox Faux talking points, this guy/girl/whatever "Raghead" is one of these trolls, ranting about non existent issues to take up time and space so the real things that need to be talked about are buried under their load of crap.
No amount of this will cover up that a vote for McSame is a vote for President Palin. As for me, I'm growing tired of hearing that old fart telling the same war story, get over it, move on John.
In the Air Force working as a mechanic on F-4 Phantoms I had to deal with plenty of these bigger than life A-holes every day, usually short white jock types with a zero personality. All the same!

2) Giving Drivers Licenses for Illegals.

3) Affirmative Action.

4) Abortion or Pro-Choice.

5) Eliminating Discriminatory Borders For Those To Vote.(Illegals)

Posted by: michael | Sep 14, 2008 9:54:42 AM

From the Chicago Sun-Times, April 23, 2007:

"Obama has been friends with Rezko for 17 years. Rezko has been a political patron to Obama and many others, helping to raise millions of dollars for them through his own contributions and by hosting fund-raisers in his home.

Obama, who has worked as a lawyer and a legislator to improve living conditions for the poor, took campaign donations from Rezko even as Rezko's low-income housing empire was collapsing, leaving many African-American families in buildings riddled with problems -- including squalid living conditions, vacant apartments, lack of heat, squatters and drug dealers."

That is Obama's old district. What makes anyone think he can run a COUNTRY?
Look at the facts, people!

Posted by: Patrick | Sep 14, 2008 9:56:56 AM

What ever happened to the Dream Ticket?

I was for Hillary before Obama won the nomination. I was really hoping Hillary would have ran with McCain but how likely was that?

Posted by: michael | Sep 14, 2008 9:57:20 AM

michael...first, there's a difference between "discriminatory barriers to voting" and allowing illegals and felons to vote. You might want to check out the Constitution.

And yes, I'm good with Obama's stand on issues. He has clear and concise plans about how to help our country get back on track. I like how he wants to invest in the people of this country and not in Iraq or China. He has a solid understanding of the economy and how it works. I believe that we need to use diplomacy first and force as a last resort. It's interesting that the Bush administration has actually adopted many of the plans in Afganistan that Obama suggested. Obama is a thinker like Lincoln, FDR, and Kennedy. In the world we live in today it is more important than ever that we consider the consequences of our actions before we act. Otherwise, the results could be catastrophic.

If Obama wasn't referring to the woman as a PIG than what was he referring to?
----------------------
How about the prevlous 5 minutes of his speech where he was talking about McCain's policies perhaps? Said they were horrible. Then said the phrase that McCain used just a few months ago. And never mentioned Palin at all I might add.

Palin describes her self as "hocky mom, "motherly", bulldog with lipstick"
If the press called her that, Repubs would be crying "sexism". What a bunch of hypocrites. And when did the Repubs become such whiners?

"Oh, the entire pres corp is out to get us. They're so mean to want to ask questions of an UNKNOWN. We should be able to create Ms Palin into what ever we want with no scrutiny."

The Repubes have a weak candidate and an unqulaified VP choice. The VP was picked for her looks and her willingnes to fall into line. Even Carl Rove said she wasn't picked based on ability to the job! THAT SHOULD TELL YOU SOMETHING!

Tina Fey ROCKED! Sad part is it wasn't that funny. Palin IS just as Tina Fey portrayed her. Except Palin has a dark side that the GOP is trying to hide. Read the NY Times article!

Posted by: Republican Whiners | Sep 14, 2008 10:03:30 AM

Posted by: Valerie | Sep 14, 2008 10:06:30 AM

michael...sadly in this country there is a history of some trying to prevent African-American people from voting especially in the South. Just this week there is news that in Ohio the Republican Party is trying to keep people who have lost their homes to foreclosure from being able to register to vote. African-Americans as a whole are more likely to be lower income so this would impact them more. This is the "discriminatory barriers to voting" that needs to be fixed.

Posted by: Mary | Sep 14, 2008 10:06:57 AM

Palin is a very scary individual to be in the position she is in. Imagine what would happen if McCain was assasinated? She would become president and ban books that she doesn't like from all libraries like she did in Alaska.

Both sides are handing out lies but the lesser of two evils at this point is Obama.

Posted by: Rick, Centennial, CO | Sep 14, 2008 10:07:50 AM

Michael, you are spewing repulsive Rebpublican garbage-- Obama supports AGE APPROPRIATE sex education for children. Anyone with a brain (okay, you're excused)understands that for children in kindergarten that is teaching them about inappropriate touching. You have some PROBLEM with teaching kids that there are perverts out there who want to harm them!?

Posted by: mila | Sep 14, 2008 10:08:18 AM

The SNL skit was good fun. I would image Sarah Palin regrets the "I can see Alaska from my house." I believe she was particularly nervous during the first segment and settled down after that. The one thing SNL did convey is the need to talk about women in a manner that is on point and leave off the sexist jargon.

Posted by: rafraf | Sep 14, 2008 10:08:27 AM

Oh, so you want to talk about dark sides? Obama's got everyone beat in that department.

Posted by: Charles | Sep 14, 2008 10:09:38 AM

Did they put that skit on the web?

Posted by: Rick, Centennial, CO | Sep 14, 2008 10:09:43 AM

SNL isn't going to make or break the election. Nonetheless a candidate has to be able to laugh at themselves. Look at George Bush. Elected twice. He thinks portrayals of him on SNL are funny. The joke is on us in the end.

Posted by: WestCoastMessenger | Sep 14, 2008 10:10:13 AM

It seems that the majority of Americans can recognize Palin for what she is - unqualified - but some of you folks on this blog persist in wanting this woman as vp, possibly as president, despite her lightweight "qualifications" when she truly poses a danger to this country. Yeah, it would be great to have a woman vp or president, but THIS woman? Heaven help us all. I'll stick with Obama and Biden thank you very much.

shay - it's fool's like you who can't read between the line's, when has obama ever used the line lipstick on a pig, that line is most heard from on the republican side and McCain has been known to use that phrase which talk's about pork barrel project's that are a waste! obama is more of a pork barrel democrat than what you make Palin out to be being pork barrel republican. that comment about lipstick was a smack from the left to slow down the McCain/Palin ticket and if you can't see that then you are the fool, plus, if you are voting for obama then you are even more of a fool. why did the crowd love that statement from obama and laughed uncontrolably, because they knew what he really was refering to. so how is it when it comes to lipstick on a pig, obama can say that when the obama/biden ticket put together put the McCain/Palin ticket to shame on pork barrel spending. obama and biden are at the top 10% of their democratic class with pork! obama has not even been in the ILL. senate or U.S. that long and has never finished either term before running for something else and you talk about experience. how can he never vote yes or no on bill's and still be at the top of the pork list himself?

Posted by: timmaaa7 | Sep 14, 2008 10:13:01 AM

ABC is using it liberal staff to trash an extradonary women. Their cutting of quotes she made to Charlie Gibson is just one example. Every time the liberal media attacks Ms Palin, the country gets made ans Obama falls more behind in the polls. i have no respect for Charlie Gibson anymore.

Posted by: Rob | Sep 14, 2008 10:15:37 AM

Actually, no, I do not have a dark side that is anywhere near Obama's. I don't have terrorist friends, I don't have anti-Israeli friends, I don't have a reverend for 20 years who taught me Black Liberation Theology (which is full of hate) and I don't engage with corrupt people like Rezko.

Besides, I'm not running for President like Obama is. But, if the measure of the winner would be integrity, I would win in a landslide against him. Most people would!

Palin's inexperience shows.

Other vice presidents and even presidents have been relatively inexperienced in foreign affairs, but Palin's limitations are laughable for someone seeking the second highest office in the free world. She said that until she traveled to Kuwait and Germany to visit Alaska national guardsmen last year, her previous foreign travels were only to Canada and Mexico. Until recently, Americans were not even required to obtain a passport to visit those bordering countries. In an awkward exchange with Gibson, Palin had obviously never heard of the "Bush Doctrine"--the justification for launching unilateral, preemptive wars. You'd expect even an ordinary hockey mom would know about that, especially if, as Palin proudly noted in the interview, that very day she was sending "my first born, my teenage son" to the war in Iraq launched under the self-same Bush Doctrine. She committed a faux pas concerning the Cold War in claiming that America had defeated Communism "without a shot fired." The prospective vice president seems unaware that the Cold War involved hot proxy wars throughout Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe and Latin America during a span of 45 long years. The U.S. alone lost 58,000 troops in Vietnam, and the Cold War nearly led to nuclear annihilation during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

What I find more worrying than Palin's lack of experience is her lack of humility about it. "I'm ready," she declared, after Gibson challenged her to "look the country in the eye and say 'I have the experience and I have the ability'." You might be able to get away substituting self confidence for knowledge in a high school history debate, but it isn't a good mindset for a leader who may have her finger on the nuclear trigger. Palin had duly rehearsed the pronunciations of difficult foreign names like Ahmadinejad and Saakashvili. Very good! Then she sounded sophomoric, as McCain has done, in straining to argue that Alaska's close geographical proximity to Russia was tantamount to providing her with foreign policy expertise. When Gibson asked her what insights into Russia the proximity gave her, she replied, "You can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska." (I wonder if she can look inside Putin's soul from that distance--Bush didn't do so well in that regard, and he was standing right next to the Russian president.) Nearly as bad, Palin argued that her support for developing Alaska's oil and gas reserves was another foreign policy "credential." Maybe we should ask Bill Gates: does owning a computer, or even having seen one once, while shopping at Best Buy, qualify someone to be the next vice president of Microsoft?

It's going to be interesting how the independents respond to Palin's constant attacks. (I think she's the teflon Palon) The polls say many people relate to her values, more then Obama. You don't change that with BS TV ad's. (many closet folks) Most people have not forgotten the Rev. Wright bigotry and the fact that Obama spent so many years saying Amen Brother! Meet the press called it "The Bubba effect"...especially for Michigan and Wisconsin. When they walk into the voting booth, they'll shiver and waiver just before they pull the handle. They'll say...but he was born a muslim...they tried to kill us! He wants to talk to Iran like our best friend. Also, people are worried about the economy. The thing that effects us the most is the price of gas. Palin has instant credibility on that front. The Democrat's have not let the Drill here, Drill now thing go forward so we are exactly where we were 4 months ago. Where the tire hits the road....Obama has major problems. I think the Democrat's in congress, up for re-election, are in for a surprise.

Shouldn't the American people be concerned that Palin is under investigation for abuse of power? That's a huge red flag for me.

I like to watch Biden get all drunk and sloppy and yell into the crowds and say things that embarrass Obama.

Go Biden! Have another one!

SNL nailed it, and I hope people were thinking as well as laughing.

And to the Faux News Talking Point trolls out there: Don't you care about this country at all? Look at the damage that has been done to the USA over the last eight years and consider whether your dumb*ss culture war and politics of divisiveness and hate are good for America. This isn't a game; this isn't about winning at all costs. We have reaped the consequences of electing GW Bush and his neocon cronies and we CANNOT afford another idiot warmongering puppet in the White House. Stop the madness. Do your homework. Vote for Obama, who is authentic and experienced and smart and who clearly cares about this country's future.

Does anyone remember that Obama is running against McCain not Palin for president? Women, democrats are the ones trying to make life easier for those of us struggling to be the mothers that are able to care for our children. Those of us that cannot afford healthcare, childcare or maybe even food or shelter. They are not forcing people to have abortions but people die from back street butchers and thats what happens if you take away choice. There is just so much more. Please people, look at the issues not just what the ads and news people are trying to convince us is truth.

John McCain was for the "gas tax holiday". Just this week Congress had to bailout the Highway Trust fund (8 billion in the hole) so highway and bridge projects could go forward. The Highway Trust fund gets it's money from the tax on gas. This proves to me that McCain (and apparently his advisers) have no basic understanding of how the economy works.

This one thought the skit was funny. As long as all the candidates are getting their fair share of jabs, it's fine with me. Tina Fey nailed the accent.

Ok, so who are the DUMBASSES who voted for George Bush in the last two elections?

Best guess it's the exact same people who are falling for the McCain-Palin show. The "Real Americuns".

It never ceases to amaze me how gullible our nation can be. Put a couple waving flags behind you, say "patriot" a few times, and you can lie to the faces of 50% of Americans.

Funny how no one wants to admit Bush is a Republican these days. They showed Bush for all of 7 minutes at the convention and he's the PRESIDENT. No one dared say the word "CHENEY" the entire convention. They didn't want to remind America what the GOP really stands for -Gas,Oil, and Pipelines.

You can see Russia from Alaska as foreign policy credential? This cannot be happening to America!
