No Joint Clinton-Palin Appearance at New York Rally
September 17, 2008 11:58 AM
ABC News' Imtiyaz Delawala and Teddy Davis Report: In the case of the 2008 presidential election, life does not always imitate the art of well-received Saturday Night Live skit, especially where a joint appearance of Sen. Hillary Clinton and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin are concerned.
Clinton backed out of a protest scheduled for Monday in New York against Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's attendance at the opening of the UN General Assembly after learning that organizers also invited the Republican vice presidential nominee without informing her.
Organized by American Jewish groups, the "Rally to Stop Iran Now" sent out a media advisory billing the joint appearance in their headline: "SEN. HILLARY CLINTON AND GOV. SARAH PALIN AT “RALLY TO STOP IRAN NOW,” AT UNITED NATIONS, MONDAY, SEPT. 22nd, 11:45 A.M."
The rally will feature Palin as well as Speaker of Israel’s Knesset Dalia Itzik and Nobel Laureate Elie Wiesel.
Clinton aides were described as "furious" after learning from reporters -- not rally organizers -- of the plan to have Clinton and Palin appear together.
"Her attendance was news to us, and this was never billed to us as a partisan political event," said Clinton spokesman Philippe Reines in a statement to reporters. "Senator Clinton will therefore not be attending."
Palin spokeswoman Tracey Schmitt released a statement on Clinton's canceled appearance saying, "Governor Palin believes that the danger of a nuclear Iran is greater than party or politics. She hopes that all parties can rally together in opposition to this grave threat."
Clinton's spokesman had no direct response to the argument made by Schmitt.

Last time I checked, Israel has NUKES. A bit of a double standard here. It's about time the US disengages completely from the region. If they want to bomb themselves out of existence, just let them.

Standing against Ahmadinejad IS standing up for freedom! Not giving him a hero's welcome at Columbia like the American Left did last year. Liberals eagerly ignore Ahmadinejad's record of publicly executing homosexuals and religious minorities, funding/arming terrorists, building nukes, and killing US soldiers in Iraq--just to show their hostility to Bush and America. Hypocrits.

Palin is right, this should not be a political stage. It should be a stage to show that both sides can come together to fight a cause. I feel bad Mrs. Clinton has to throw a hissy fit and say no. It shows the American people that she truly has no intentions on working with the "other" side.

You Obama supporters go right ahead and keeping taking your cheap shots at the Jewish-American community by acusing them of "staging" the Palin/Clinton appearance.
They will return the favor come November.

Palin is a Doomsday church
mom. She believes in End Times
and similar crazy stuff.
McCain is an old warmonger.
MacCain and Palin are a couple
of nutters.

Senator Clinton supports Senator Obama. There is a very close campaign, which continues. If there was to be a joint appearance, then the organizers should have let the Senator make the decision to appear with Ms. Palin.

Unlikely. Hillary supporters know how to spell.
"I'm a former Hillary supporter, but she shouldn't of canceled her appeareance just because Palin was going to be there. I like Palin she seems a nice person.Jo"

Gee, that's a shame. Would have been nice for both sides to unite against evil. It appears one side is decisive against terror in the world, the other side uncertain.
Now onto the real issues of the day..........tanning beds.

Cheap shot for publicity for the Republicans. Quote Hillary,"Palin may be exciting, but not vote worthy!"

Is Palins anti-semedic preacher going to be there?

Sarah makes a bad comment about the jewish community in one her speech at her church so republican wants to use Hillary to bring the crowd to Sarah and build up Sarah's resume. Hillary knows therefore she cancels it. I think Joe Liberman behind this setup.

The Democratic Party is UNFIT even to be majority in Congress. Fact of the matter is, the mind boggling collapse of Wallstreet has MORE to do with Democratic lead Congress than Bush itself. McCain supported a proposal in 2005 to oversee Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac; what the democrats in the senate had done? KILLED IT!
And now the Democrats are busy LYING to the American “don’t blame us.” The crash of our housing has MORE to do with the Democratic Party than the GOP. We all have to face the truth instead of acting blind what the Democrats in Congress are doing. Being hoodwinked by party loyalty is not the way to live.

Seeking attention to an event is fine. But when it turns deceitful and tacky, no one should fault an invited speaker for refusing to be used. If Palin had any dignity or brains, she would get out, too. But she is very willing to be used, whereas Clinton recognized it today for the shabby media circus it has become.

What's the difference between a pitbull and a Republican VP nominee?
The pitbull has at least been been vet-ed.

If Hillary were not informed that Palin would also be attending, she's right to back out. That is a lie of omission on the part of the organizers. This isn't a schoolyard game, but that's the way people seem to want it to be. Hillary could grind Sarah Palin up and make her into mooseburgers, but that's not the point. She was invited as a speaker, and not as a debater. No attention should be paid to anyone who thinks it was wrong of her to cancel. The wrong was done by the people who tried to trick her.

Heaven forbid that Hillary lower herself and appear with Palin. Sounding off about the threat that Iran poses is about as important to Hillary as last year's pant suit sale at Dillards.

Get a grip Sallie, your are just mad becuse Hillary is not the cause Celeb anymore.

I agree w/ Clinton on this one. The organizers used her to grab attention. They don't care about anything but themselves and lying to Hillary should un-professionalism.
And HP Boston...youd rather have someone tell you that you're not allowed to make your own abortion choice or that you need to believe in god? Get real.

Here's a different tack. Why are they protesting Ahmadinejad's attendance at the UN when they are worried about Iran developing nuclear weapons.
Are they afraid he's going to find some plutonium in New York?
And as for Palin's response, yes, a nuclear Iran should be beyond partisanship. Now please explain to me how exactly this demonstration is going to prevent Iran from building weapons?
