Obama Slams McCain for a 'Katrina Like' Response to the Bailout Bill
September 28, 2008 4:03 PM
ABC News' John Berman, Ursula Fahy, Matt Jaffe and Sunlen Miller Report: The Obama-Biden ticket brought out their wives for a rally in Detroit before 35,000 people this Sunday afternoon.
Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., spoke about the economic bailout bill’s progress, giving bipartisan credit for being close to passing a plan.
"Thanks to the hard work of Democrats and Republicans, it looks like we have a rescue plan that includes these taxpayer protections. It looks like we will pass that plan very soon."
Obama continued to be critical of Sen. John McCain’s reaction to the economic crisis– and for the first time today had tougher words, saying McCain’s response was similar to Bush’s response during Katrina.
"I think Senator McCain just doesn’t get it – he doesn’t understand that the storm hitting Wall Street hit Main Street long ago. That’s why his first response to the greatest financial meltdown in generations was a Katrina like response. Sort of stood there. Said the ‘fundamentals of the economy are strong.’"
Obama said that McCain’s just been shifting positions over the last two weeks and looking for photo opts to try to find out what to say and what to do in terms of the economy.
"Well, I know what we need to do. You know what we need to do. Joe Biden knows what we need to do," Obama chanted, "We need to stop giving those tax cuts to corporations and CEOs on Wall Street, and start standing up for families right here in Michigan."
Obama pounded his message that Americans can’t afford the "nonsense" of four more years like the last eight – and brought up how Friday’s debate – in his eyes – demonstrated how McCain could bring just that.
"Think about it on Friday, we had a debate. And on issue after issue – from taxes to health care to the war in Iraq – you heard John McCain make the case for more of the same," Obama said, "He kept on asking’ me, ‘you don’t understand.’ No, I understand, you want more of the same. The same Bush tax policies, the same Bush energy policies, the same Bush Iraq policies. A fifth grader could understand – it’s more of the same."
Senator Biden – in his introduction – continued his attack dog role and his regular free speaking attitude, telling the audience, "John McCain said he'd follow Osama bin Laden to the gates of Hell. Well let me tell you something. President Barack Obama will follow him to where he lives and then send him to hell."
Obama was joined on stage for the duration of his speech by Michelle Obama, Jill Biden and his running mate.
At the onset, Obama disappointed the crowd – telling them that his wife would not be speaking today.
""Michelle decided she wasn’t going to speak today. She just wanted to sit there and look cute. That’s okay," he joked (much to Michelle’s dismay?), "It’s okay with me!"
Later – when an audience member fainted and Obama stopped his remarks to toss a bottle of water into he crowd his wife helped and similarly threw her water bottle into the crowd as well.
"Oh Michelle you got an arm too?" Obama snidely ribbed his wife….. perhaps not setting up the Senator well for his upcoming 16th wedding anniversary celebration on Friday.

They said it before about Obama. He is the rich snob scum that stands in the corner criticizing everybody as they walk by but he himself refuses to lift a finger to do anything himself

Obama prays the economy will crash with Rev Wright. So they both can say the CHICKENS HAVE COME HOME TO ROOST. Just like said after 3000 innocent Americans died after 9-11 in a matter of hours.

How does transferring 700 billion to start (mind you that's just the number they picked out of thin air, it WILL go higher!) from an already hurting and recessed economy with runaway inflation do to shore up our economy and peoples personal incomes? Granted Wall St. and investment banks as well as FOREIGN BANKS like Bank of Scotland get to make a killing off of the American taxpayers, who are already paying for three and soon to be four major wars, and they can benefit from this plan, but where do the American people benefit from this transfer of wealth from the evaporating middle class and the poor to the very wealthiest of the wealthy. This was made possible by government interfering with the market and propping up banks who made illegal deals in the first place, so we REWARD them with taxpayers dollars after they've been caught red handed STEALING from the taxpayers??? Only in Washington. Sadly only the House Republicans have the will to stand up for the American taxpayer. This is a very sad day for America indeed.

Obama is still hiding the way he wants to run the country. His small and thin voting record shows he is worse than a communist dictator.

Obama is the one who just doesn't get it. He knew that whatever plan Nancy Pelosi, Chris Dodd, Barney Frank, and other Dems had was okay with him. He doesn't know enough to contribute. The
"plan" by the Dem leadership was not going to fly because Republicans in the House were not even included. It smells like a rat when Dodd, Frank, and others should be taking the blame for not giving any oversight to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. They chose not to listen to any of the warnings from John McCain and others regarding the coming crisis. Their so-called plan was not going to fly. John McCain got the Republicans into the discussions to work out a plan that they say will protect the American taxpayers in the long term, as well as the short term.
We shall see. In the meantime, Obama looks upon himself as a knowledgeable leader. He is not. He is merely a ditto of the northeastern liberal senators who were warned that a crisis was coming, and did nothing to stop it.
We need experienced and knowledgeable leadership. Obama is a ditto and a double talker who cannot think for himself.

Rushing to SPENT 700 Billion in Taxpayers dollars should NEVER be a little debated decision. Obama wanted to RUSH into this EVEN after admitting in the debate he had not seen the details yet.

Obama- the little man-child has stepped in a big pile of dog sh!t and doesn't know how to get out of it.
He could have put politics aside and gone to Washington to take his elected seat. He decided to run all over the country and bad mouth McCain while McCain was helping to get us out of the financial mess we are in.
The funny thing is, when Bush called Obama to Washington to give a hand in the bailout bill, the Democrats decided to use him as their leader. Reid and Pelosi gave him notes to follow but he still didn't know what was going on. So in a room with Bush, McCain, Pelosi, Reid and Paulson, Obama stuttered and looked lost, he couldn't ask Reid and Pelosi for help in front of everyone, so he started blasting the Republican's bill without even knowing what it said. In the end, everyone walked out, Pelosi and Reid looked embarrased and the White House didn't release a formal statement about this, even though it had leaked out, because they were afraid this info would cause a rift between the party's trying to come to an agreement.
The Democrats sent Obama away because he made things worse.

Obama's campaign and its supporters have been threatening television stations and networks with boycotts of sponsors and legal action if they treat Obama with a critical eye.
SO WHAT IF THEY DO and i hope they do.> We don't need the some comedian, NEWS MEDIA or Oprah telling drones to vote for Obama anyway.

"Think about it on Friday, we had a debate. And on issue after issue . Obama admitted he did not have all the facts on the Bill.So why did he want to RUSH into it??

Interesting choice of words...chanted....in his opinion...and more LOL The writer of this piece must think like John McCain..that people are stupid and not able to see through the little hidden messages. Grow up and just report.

Palin experienced? LOL Your kidding right? LOL Come on don't YOU read? or like Palin are you just inherently stupid?

Obama gets it better than Mc bush, I'd say he proved that more and more every day. At least he is not a war hawk amd cares about your life and your neighbors life not the fat cats that need a bail out.

BEING a snob is not about how much you own. Since 99 percent of Americans work for the rich. Its a snobbish Attitude that Obama has.
Only in communist countries and Obama land do they frown upon working hard and living the American dream of getting rich.
Posted by: BruhMan | Sep 28, 2008 4:36:22 PM
LOL Or you can just go with McCains little blurb that the fundenmentals of the economy are great LOL Talk about not understanding the middle class LOLOLOL

Great Analogy. While New Orleans was flooding McCain was eating cake with Bush and enjoying being on Conan's show for some late night comedy.
40 Senators and 100 members of Congress visited New Orleans before McCain did. McCain voted against establishing a Congressional commission to examine the Federal, State, and local responses to Katrina. He voted against it again in 2006. He voted against allowing up to 52 weeks of unemployment benefits to people affected by the hurricane, and in 2006 voted against appropriating supplemental emergency funding, including $28 billion for hurricane relief.
On the other hand, Obama has introduced 6 bills in the 109th and 110th Congress to aid the victims of Katrina.
