Obama Supporters: The High Road is the Right Road But....
September 01, 2008 9:06 PM
ABC News' Andy Fies reports: Although Barack Obama has said the pregnancy of Gov Sarah Palin’s unwed teenaged daughter is “off-limits” and has “no relevance”, not all of his supporters agree.
Clinton Wray and his family sat among the 14,000 who gathered to hear Obama speak in Milwaukee this evening. While he supported Obama’s decision to, in Wray's words, “take the higher ground”, he was not convinced the pregnancy is irrelevant. “Republicans will say that they are the party of family values and that everybody else doesn’t have any values. So when you’ve used that, I think the public and the media have the right to use whatever you’ve put out to come back to you.”
Wray added that this applied to Palin too. ”This young lady is saying that she’s a strong conservative with Christian values. That’s great. But the Republican party has consistently used the religious right to say ‘we’re Christians,’ to say ‘we don’t believe in this and we don’t believe in that.’ And so I think they have to be held accountable…. She has to be held accountable.”
Though Anthony Davis said he understood the hypocrisy argument made by people like Wray, he believes “the situation is a family matter that they have to deal with. To use that as a political tool, I don’t see that.”
Teacher Megan Kelly, who is raising a 16 year old, agreed it was not a good idea to make an issue of the pregnancy but was sure others would. Referring to Obama’s hands-off approach, she said, “I think it’s a good answer for him to say that it doesn’t matter because it really shouldn’t. But I think that it will, especially given McCain’s views on things, I feel like that’s going to be a big issue for people that are against him.
They are going to be bringing it up over and over again.” Though she is against that strategy, she said she understood it: “If he’s running on very conservative family values, I think that kind of diminishes his viewpoint.”
Supporter Bonnie Greasby called the situation a “private matter” and that it made Palin more like a “real person”. But she said the Republicans were to blame for “trying to paint her as the perfect woman and it brings it back that she’s not.”
Asked what might happen if the situation were reversed and the democratic candidate was the one with the pregnant teen daughter, Greasby and friend Linda Devitt laughed. Devitt said, “They’d be all over him. He’d be a terrible father.”

Reality is this woman wants to be VP, ti think that what happens in her family doesn't matter is absurd. When has personal matters of our President or VP didn't matter?
Fine her 17 year old daughter is pregnant, happens all the time, you stick with them give, them the support they need, they grow up, become contributing adults and life goes on. So why didn't they see fit to make it known from the start? They had to know that they could not hold the information back. One more example of poor judgement.

The vitriole spewed on all of these blogs is absolutely insane!
Democrat, Republican, or Independant, how can you call yourself an American when you ALL stoop to such low levels debate! Be ashamed! What are we teaching our children about the American way of life and democracy?

The Republican Party is being held hostage by the Religious Right . This puppet has practically ruined Palin's family. If he knew that Palin's daughter was pregnant, he should have reconsidered his decision to offer her the opportunity to be his running mate. Palin would have emerged in 4 years and become a power house. As it stands, we now have America questioning her capabilities as a mother. In order for this ticket to win, she has to convince the American people that she is a great mother and not a distraction.

A lot of daughters, mothers and grandparents can relate to the Palins and their daughter in regards to this matter.
It is, after all, part of the human condition - it's called living.
PUMA!

Hang in there Sarah Palin. The media onslaught was absolutely predictable and indicates they truly fear you. Always remember that you share the stage with a candidate who is a famous plaegerist and another who participated in shady real estate deals and was a drug user. In such esteemed company, your record looks stellar.

I'm switching to McCain / Palin. They seem to have the needed change for the next 8 years, keep marriage between a man and a woman and save beautiful babies!! Go Palin Go.

averagejoe...take a quick survey, and you will see that most of the vitriol is from Obama supporters, who will seize any opportunity to attack like a herd of hyenas. A perfect example of this is the indespicable and low down rumor about Trig.....they are not satisfied attacking Palin, so they go after an innocent baby?
Atrocious, you all ought to be ashamed of yourselves. Is this the "change" that Obama has instilled in you? Were you all good people once, and now your love of Obama has brought out your innermost evil? What give you the right to start false and horrific rumors about children?
You know that saying about not throwing stones? the hypocrisy of the Dems talking about family values:
A previous sitting president who committed adultery in the whitehouse.
A Dem candidate who had an affair and a child out of wedlock, while his wife has cancer.
And.....
The Dem Prez nominee with a history of drug use.
Family values? You have some nerve.....

The news here folks is McCain's and Palin's irresponsibility and lack of judgement, not Palin's daugher.

Palin has been governor of Alaska and is well qualified for managing a budget. Her results for the time she has been in public office are excellent. She has shown her ability to work within the party to get things done that benefit the people. The DNC candidates have no experience in managing a budget. The DNC presidential candidate is unqualified with little experience, and fewer results to show for his time in office than Palin. The best option is to choose a candidate who can get the job done, which is McCain/Palin 2008.

Roxanne--Is Barack and Michelle also pimping their daughters for political purposes. To me, a woman with family values and professional skills should be congratulated, not demeaned. Of course, Palin is more qualified for VP than Obama for President.
If Obama keeps taking his sort of high road, he going to drive off into the canyon. Goodbye, Obama, the hypocrite.

"Democrat, Republican, or Independant, how can you call yourself an American when you ALL stoop to such low levels debate! Be ashamed! What are we teaching our children about the American way of life and democracy?"
Just expressing our opinions, averagejoe. If you think this is vitriolic, you really don't get around much. I worry about the damage done to this country by Bush and his followers who tried to kill free speech and public dissent for the last 8 years. Remember the Dixie Chicks? They received death threats for criticizing Bush and the war in Iraq. They were practically run out of the country!! Worry about that, not this comment board.

Obama doesn't want this touched because his own Mother was 18, single and pregnant and sleeping with a married Muslum man,

dear Ron -- if you are accusing Palin of being irresponsible because Bristol is pregnant, then you are also calling Obama's grandmother irresponsible as her daughter got pregnant with Barack out of wedlock too. It is rather unfortunate that Obama is still getting advice from this "irresponsible" grandmother, isn't it? shows a profound lack of judgement, according to you.

The reason that Pollsters can't get it right is that so many people are changing their votes. I'm a Republican... no wait I'm a Democrat..... The Republicans are popular this week.... yeah but my new girlfriend is a Democrat. Maybe I can be like Lou Dobbs, Fox has the hotter chicks....Nah Republican babes don't put out. Give it a rest and get some fresh air. There are about 400 votes in b*u*m*f*u*c*k Ohio that are going to decide this election and there is nothing we can do about it.

Its a non issue and has nothing to do with the vice presidency. Obama was also referring to the vicious smear campaign to try to libel a 17 year old girl and an infant with Down's syndrown perpetuated by major main stream bloggers that support him. their actions were reprehensible. He said if anyone in his campaign was connected to it they would be fired. I hope he means that.

"She also manages the National Guard in Alaska, which is the first ballistic system on guard for the US for any missile attack on the US, and therefore is active 24 hours, the only one of it's kind in the US. For that, she gets special security briefing."

=======================================
THIS IS A TOTAL LIE! Just like the rest of your points in your "posts!"
The missile defense system in Alaska has NOTHING TO DO with the National guard you liar!
That sysytem is ran by the US Air Force and is controlled entirely by the Federal Government and the Pentagon - I know this for a fact!!!
What do you think they are going to let that backwoods beauty queen Palin be responsible for controlling our national defense!!!
Are all of you Republicans just liars or what???
Palin isn't qualified to do anything with a gun besides shoot deer, fox, bears and wolves from an AIRPLANE!!!
But that is another matter....
