Stephanopoulos: Obama Says Palin More Bush-Cheney Than McCain
September 06, 2008 5:09 PM
ABC News' George Stephanopoulos reports: Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin is a "skilled politician," but the country doesn't know much about her yet, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., said in an interview that will air tomorrow exclusively on "This Week."
But Obama refused to say Palin is qualified to be president, and said that picking Palin brings Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., closer to President Bush.
"He chose somebody who may be even more aligned with George Bush -- or Dick Cheney, or the politics we’ve seen over the last eight years –- than John McCain himself is," Obama said.
In the latest ABC News/Washington Post released yesterday, half of Americans said they have a favorable first impression of Palin. That number rises to 85 percent of Republicans and 53 percent of independents.
"She wouldn't be governor of Alaska if she wasn't a skilled politician, and I think her performance at the convention showed what a skilled politician she is," said Obama.

Well Mr. Obama - HILARY CLINTON is also a skilled politician - AND qualified to lead our country - you are NOT. Guess you should of picked Hillary.
McCain/Palin will now get my vote - they both seem to be qualified, and I can trust them.

awww come on. he's just pissed because he got picked on in her speech... lol
Posted by: tim | Sep 6, 2008 5:22:00 PM
Mr Obama, you are also a skilled showman. I wouldn't be surprised if after this election a college student will run for US President in the future, claiming that he/she has superior judgement than everyone else.

Democrats have to prove they are patriotic, but everyone knows Republicans love their country, they just hate half the people in it.

i see the trolls are out. but in all honesty, palin can be seen as another howard dean. remember how he was hyped up at first. i suppose you all are going to claim that the "scream" did him in. hardly. dean was hyped by the media and couldnt follow through. in the same vein, i suspect palin is like that. she has not given any interviews, the only folks she has spoken to are supporters and even then she retreads lines from her speech (written by others by the way).

Sarah Palin:
"I said no to the bridge to nowhere"
From Reuters news service:
"In the city Ketchikan, the planned site of the so-called "Bridge to Nowhere," political leaders of both parties said the claim was false and a betrayal of their community, because she had supported the bridge and the earmark for it secured by Alaska's Congressional delegation during her run for governor."
Just why does oil-money rich Alaska need ANY federal support for their projects? Instead of a state income tax, they SEND FREE MONEY to every man, woman and child living in Alaska. Yet Alaska receives more federal earmarks per person than ANY OTHER STATE!
Not only is Palin the Queen of Pork but John McCain is the King of Hypocrites.
Wait until the retirees in Florida and all across the nation figure out that John McCain supports the same plan to divert the money paying for the current social security recipients' checks, to go to private accounts for younger workers.
If you want to fix the Social Security finances, the first thing to do is DON'T MAKE IT WORSE! Diverting money from the system for privatization will make Social Security insolvent sooner rather than later.

Sarah Palin makes Cheney look like Ghandi. Can you say "Abuse of Power"? I saw an interview with some people who know her in Alaska. They all said she is blunt, everything with her is black and white, and she has a problem with people who disagree with her or don't share her views. Apparently it's Sarah's way or the highway. She is an extremely scary woman.
Posted by: Marika | Sep 6, 2008 5:33:32 PM
The wheels have come off the campaign. It wasn't supposed to go like this and they don't have a coherent strategy.
Posted by: linda | Sep 6, 2008 5:33:50 PM
Poor Zerobama ... it must scare him like nothing else that Sarah is getting some attention ....
Posted by: beebop | Sep 6, 2008 5:34:10 PM
Hahaha. Obama reminds me of Jimmy Carter and Mike Dukakis. Oh and by the way, I saw all those whoa is me, "POOR" liberal Democrats spending $30,000 to visit with the Senator at Bon Jovi's palace. Never fear everyday working class Americans, they're just like you!! Hahaa. What a joke.

Palin is more like Bush and Cheney....funniest line that the republicans will capitalize on big time. The media has been screaming she is not qualified, she is an unfit mother, they have trashed her beyond words. The media has moved into a level of indecency never before seen. And now, Obama is elevating her abilities to a sitting President and VP?
Obama is showing what a fool he is.
Posted by: Tina | Sep 6, 2008 5:35:23 PM
Obama is a political hack trying to cash in on the failed policies of Bush/Cheney. McCain is a 180 degree turn from Bush. Obama will lie until election day but it won't change the truth. The 90% of the time that McCain voted with Bush is another misreprentation by Obama. That 90% was unanimous throughout the Senate on things that everyone agreed on. By Obama's line of reasoning McCain and Obama voted the same on 90% of the issues.

Molly,
Who cares if you vote for McCain! Obama will win this thing by a landslide any way! It is over. Go ahead and vote for 4 more years of Bush! Go ahead and continue to struggle in this economy - unless you are already making 200K. It is the economy - stupid! And the democrats will prevail this time! McCain hasn't led a poll this entire summer. And he is polling better than Kerry and Gore did in the swing states.

Obama thinks people will buy his crap.
Palin defeated long time well known pliticians in the GOP primary and general election.
Obama threw out all his primary opponenys and tough general election opponents. Obama has never defeated anyone in a true election. He needed the DNC to award him the nomination over Clinton.
Posted by: geevill | Sep 6, 2008 5:37:23 PM
First McCain was Bush. Now Palin is Bush... LOL.
Empty-suititis strikes again.
How's this?: Obama is more aligned to the policies of Reverend Wright than to JFK.

So Sarah is more like Bush? I guess Barack will be glad to know that McCain will be giving the orders and Sarah will follow them. She will set no policy.

Sarah Palin received only a little more than 600 votes in the election for mayor of Wasilla. That's pretty bad turnout for a town of around 7000. It looks to me like the people really didn't care who the mayor was since the town council and adminstrator actually run the town.

Let's assume -- so that we can focus on issues -- that Biden, McCain, Obama, and Palin are all equally qualified for the officen of President. As Obama points out, from the indications we have so far, Palin's political beliefs seem more aligned to Bush and Cheney than do McCain's beliefs. In fact, Palin may actually fall to the right of Bush-Cheney. If you think that's a good thing, you might consider voting for McCain-Palin. If you think it's not so good, go with Obama-Biden.

This web site is just a bunch of partisan loonatics yelling at each other with name-calling barely higher than fifth grade level. Stupid lies are half-truths are told by both sides.
"X hates america."
"No Y will destroy our country"
"Y is greedy and in it for himself"
"No Y will bankrupt us all."
Will you name callers all go home so that some of us can have a mature conversation.
It is like we have conservative idiots like Sean Hannity arguing with liberal idiots like Mike Malloy. These guys are all just mouthpieces trying to polarize our country in the worst way.
What our country needs is an intelligent debate about issues and about what we need to do as a country. If we don't learn to get along and work with each other instead of against each other the whole country is doomed.
(I can hear it now... "X will work across party lines", "NO Y will work across party lines!)
May God have mercy on our future.

No one is asking who Barack is. But here is some insight into who he associates with. Remember his shady house deal? Rezko, who was bankrupt at the time, had his wife purchase the lot next door even though she didn't have the income to support such a transaction. So where did the money come from and why on earth would Barack purchase something he couldn't afford? Why would we want him as the steward of our economy? And who does he associate with. Here's a clue....
Several US political fundraisers are currently on trial for corruption in connection with loans received from Auchi. Auchi is currently barred from entering the US.
Nadhmi Auchi was viewed with a lot of suspicion by the Iraqi opposition to Saddam Hussein's regime, regarding him as a front-man for Saddam's intelligence service.[4] Auchi was involved in several multi-billion dollar business deals in the post-Saddam era too, such as the Orascom mobile phone network (IraqNa), and at least one power generation contract involving Chicago-based tycoon Antoin Rezko and Iraq's former Minister of Electricity, Aiham Alsamarrae, who has been convicted over corruption charges in Iraq and is now living in Chicago.
There's your change you can believe in.....Wright.

Palin is Bush/Cheney in training. No doubt about it. She left a small town that had NO debt before she came in, 22 million dollars debt. Sound familiar?

We know this much about Obama: He started running for President before his first Senate term was finished. He has had a 17-year relationship with Rezko whose trial has yet to be completed. He has written untruths in his books about when and how his mother and father married. He was untruthful when he tried to drammatize how his father came to this country with help from John Kennedy. He plaigiarized "his" famous "words" speech, a speech already given by Deval Patrick. He has lied about the sources of his campaign money. He had a shady deal with Rezko and his wife to buy his home and adjacent property, and continues to lie about it. He has had a 20-year relationship with his pastor, friend, and spiritual advisor who has thousands of words with ranting and raving hatred sermons condemning America and "damning" America. That is just the surface. He had a lot of audacity to run when he had so little experience, but, we know that people like Kerry and Kennedy urged him to run. They think that the American voter will follow their lead. Not this time. We have seen a great lack of wisdom and experience in his words and decisions. We have seen too much double talk in the debates, his speeches, and his decisions.

Because she's having an intensive crash studies and the subjects are:
1)Introduction to American Economics-Course101.
2) Introduction to Foreign Policy and Startegies-Course 102.
It's alright. It is within her right to study the above courses. But, the most unfortunate thing about the crash courses is that her professors are members of the Bush administration! And what does that tell you about Palin/Mccain ticket?

Molly, Is this the kind of President and Vice President you McCain voters want? You were going to vote for them anyway, so why do you pretend you just changed your vote. Obama is just being honest but I forget Republicans take honesty as a sign of weakness.
You want two crooks who run an angry and derisive, insulting, lie-laced campaign, don't you? Ones who cover up and lie about their records and policies while distorting the stances taken by their opponents, instead of talking issues and differences of opinion? Do you want a repeat of these last eight years after all you’ve seen happen that is so bad for our country?
The only thing one can conclude is that you McCain voters use ‘experience’ as a smoke screen and really you just love underhanded, sneaky power mongers who think they can have it both ways. They can talk loftily of bipartisanship, then allow their team to savage their opponents with things that aren't even true.

The McCain campaign is bringing two Bush administration communication veterans on board to beef up the team that will travel with Palin.
Tucker Eskew has joined the Palin team as a senior advisor, and campaign officials said he will play a role akin to chief of staff. Eskew served as director of the White House Office of Global Communications and as director of media affairs.
The campaign also confirmed Friday that Tracey Schmitt is joining as deputy communications director and national spokesperson. She is a former Republican National Committee spokesperson.

The whole wold is watching, and your mask is slipping. The democrat party is finished after this.

This country is going down the toilet faster than anytime in history and the Republicans don't have the intelligence or the nerve to admit they are the ones that caused it. They just spew racial hate and lies that their followers believe cause the majority of them are the "Christian right?" - Even Jesus would be ashamed!

As a career woman and mother, it seems to me that Sarah has prioritized her career aspirations over the special needs of her family in a critical time in their lives. Shows poor judgment in my opinion. I would love to see a women at that level of power, but only a women who is truly the right person for the job.
