Palin Says Obama Voting 'Present' on the Economy

ABC's Imtiyaz Delawala Reporting: At a rally in Lady Lake, Fla., today Gov. Sarah Palin accused Sen. Barack Obama of not aggressively promoting a plan to address the current crisis on Wall Street and compared the situation to his many "present" votes in the Illinois state legislature.

"This week, when the economic crisis threatened the livelihoods of millions of Americans, John McCain took a clear stand and he offered his own recovery plan," Palin told an enthusiastic crowd of thousands. "Our opponent refused to even take a stand on the position.

"And that's a lot like his tenure in the Illinois state legislature where Barack Obama voted present about 130 times. This week he voted present on the major economic issues of the day, and that is not leadership, America. It's not leadership Americans can afford."

The speech took place at The Villages, a fast-growing, conservative retirement community about an hour north of Orlando featuring eight championship golf courses, where many residents travel by golf cart. The outdoor rally was Palin's first public event in Florida.

Palin was joined onstage by her husband, Todd; her daughters Willow and Piper; and her infant son, Trig. Palin told the audience at the beginning of her remarks that Todd had taken Willow and Piper to Disney World the day before. She then handed the microphone to 7-year-old Piper, who told the crowd, "Thank you for letting us be here."

The actual number of Obama's "present" votes was 129 during his eight years in the Illinois Senate.

His "present" vote only accounted for 3% of his total votes during the time.

And the reason he voted "present" was because he wanted the wording of various legislature changed or become more defined. This is well documented.

So, again, Republicans trying to mislead. We have seen this over and over.

She wasn't even present to keep her 12 year old daughter from getting pregnant.

McCain/Palin=Incontinence/Incompetence

Everything I read suggests we're in totally unprecedented territory--and that we got here by following same map McCain would have us follow for health care and Social Security: deregulate, deregulate, deregulate, then socialize risk and debt while privatizing the profits for the wealthiest players. So please forgive me if I'd rather hear a measured, cautious approach that argues, as has Obama, that if we're bailing out greedy Wall Streeters, we better do something to give relief to ordinary Americans who are struggling to meet mortgage obligations on their ONE AND ONLY home. Palin hasn't a clue.

Why anyone would want to support a person such as Palin who is dodging an investigation and the media is beyond me. Are you people that gullible??

Posted by: vote4peace | Sep 21, 2008 6:53:34 PM

I see ZERO difference between the economic views of Obama and McCain.
But there must be some differences.
The media and the Obama camp has done a HORRIBLE job of explaining the differences. Obama WILL bankrupt American ever more so than it is today.
It is not JUST about policies and issues but how you implement those policies and if you do or not at all!!
Obama will be a DO NOTHING president.

I know we can afford any more "conservative" leadership the likes of Bush. Either one, taxes are going up. They have to. Someone has to pay for all the checks Bush cashed. He has left such a mess, I am surprised anyone wants to inherit the mess.

Obama voted "present" 130 times when he was in Illinois state legislature. Read this article before you insulting a great woman of our time.

How funny.

John McCain has had like 10 different positions since last Monday. Even the WSJ and George Will have said McCain was "unpresidental" last week.

@ fivepin,

Can you read? She said "the Illinois state legislature where Barack Obama voted present about 130 times."

I love Palin. Women will not be held hostage by the DNC anymore! Obama is not in touch with the people of the USA. The US wants a woman and Obama didn't care.

Democrat for McCain/Palin

Sarah, what are you hiding??? Why won't you participate in the Troopergate investigation?!! And you're saying we don't need Obama??! We don't need politicians like you who hide from the truth!

Sarah Palin left the town of Wasilla millions of dollars in debt and has no reference of point for financial resposnsibility. She and McCain want to deregulate health care. We can see what deregulation of Wall Street has gotten us.
Sarah Palin needs to be treated like other politicians. The McCain camp had to negotiate the VP debate format, because they believed if they did not she would have an "unfair disadvantage" because of her inexperience on the debating stage-----Get Real!!! If something happens to McCain, she is president , will she need protection from a crisis in the world? If she can not handle herself in a debate, it provides just one more (out of the long list of reasons) why she has no buisness as vice president.

and then she said

"This week he voted present on the major economic issues of the day"

Posted by: fivepin | Sep 21, 2008 6:57:10 PM

McCain/Palin = Unstable/Unable!!!!!

Posted by: vote4peace | Sep 21, 2008 6:57:15 PM

TIME TO GET REAL....AGAIN

Obamma's flip flops are because he has the tendancy to be wrong so often and then tries to clean it up from a different prospective later on. Next fact....Mr. Obama has social programs galore hanging out of his back pocket. If by some chance or reason, Congress passes the 700 Billion Dollar bailout bill... Where will the money come from to pay for all of his proposed social programs. You can yell, talk about and point fingers....but lets get real. The Question Who will better protect us from those who would do us harm? Who will have the guts to say "NO" and not play politics. And lastly...Picture Mrs. Obama as the first lady. Time to get real folks

McCain/Palin - proof of change and concern for the people

Obama – proof of laziness and corruption

When Palin learns to tell the truth, then I'll start listening to what she has to say.
