Republicans to Stephanopoulos: We're Not There Yet
September 25, 2008 1:20 PM
ABC News' George Stephanopoulos Reports: Top Democratic leaders on Capitol Hill tell ABC News that they have reached a fundamental agreement on a rescue plan.
Top Republican leaders, however, say that they still need to look at the details.
Beyond the far-reaching implications for the U.S. economy, the fate of a rescue plan on Capitol Hill could impact Friday's presidential debate.
Aides to John McCain say that the Arizona senator will not be going to Mississippi for the first presidential debate unless a deal is in place on the bailout bill.

Don't worry, Obama promises to be available by phone just in case his Community-Organizer expertise might come in handy for solving this economic crisis.

Hey, it's ok. McCain can stay home. I'll watch Obama take the questions. McCain is turning into a REAL old fool.
Posted by: counting crows | Sep 25, 2008 1:26:08 PM
so John mccain is going to pull a "hold on" with the same team that got us here
to delay a debate...and try to quash the VP debate
same team same tactics
throw these no good lying bums out

Obama is campaigning around the country while the grown-ups are trying to fix the economy.
"Call me if you need me" ... thanks Obama, now THAT's leadership.

Brad
kinda funny
that all the changes to the plan
are the points that Obama brought up LAST WEEK!
Posted by: dl | Sep 25, 2008 1:28:44 PM
Must mean Commander McCain has not crossed the Delaware yet to save the Republicans....er Republic.
Posted by: ricky | Sep 25, 2008 1:29:51 PM
If the market crashes we'll blame the Republicans... including John McCain since his "sole" purpose of going to Washington was to get this bill signed.
It looks as if the bill will be signed anyway therefore making McCain presence "un-needed"
Must have seen those poll numbers.

Send Palin.

SO BUSH SAVES McCAIN from embarrassment :
There comes the truth :
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/26877407#26878384
So.......McCain is not wanted because he is not part of the committee ?
he would have been passing up and down in Washington ??
this is so sad..........will someone tell this old fellow that he has lost it .........
and she should go home ?
I just read that Obama said if McCain does not show up for the debate he will hold a townhall meeting and take questions himself.

McCain's fooling no one.
Posted by: dem in chicago | Sep 25, 2008 1:32:22 PM
Brad is right. McCain has forgotten more about housing than Obama ever knew.
Like how many he owns.
Posted by: ricky | Sep 25, 2008 1:32:50 PM
since all the changes ARE the ones that Obama listed last week
and mccain seems to be coming around to
and now the same cra##y team that got us into this mess are trying to pull some
"oh oh wait wait...it needs to be tweaked...while McCain is here"
it's bull
same team same tactics
real leadership is the guy who figured out astep one without making it political
LAST WEEK!
You know the guy who acted like a President
as opposed to the crazy maniac shouting crap and then pulling stunts this week
that are reminiscent of the last 8 years of diversion and cover-ups and figuring out there is a problem AFTER we are in the shi##er.
throw Mccain and his S&L returning team...and the trillion dollar losers from the Committee for Liberation of Iraq
out on their a$$es.

"Call me if you need me" ... thanks Obama, now THAT's leadership."
Where you at, Barry?
Posted by: Mack | Sep 25, 2008 1:33:52 PM
For crying out loud!! If John McCain was going to fix the MATTER he should have been in Washington at 10 AM!!!
Posted by: Melvin | Sep 25, 2008 1:35:38 PM
Obama putting politics above the financial health of this country by releasing a new ad on the economy today. This is the new poilitics we were promised?
Posted by: Eric | Sep 25, 2008 1:35:48 PM
Mack he is showing what a leader does
calmly comes up with the first steps (that are now being implemented)
and not making it some cra##y political stunt
Posted by: dl | Sep 25, 2008 1:35:51 PM
ABC fans: Contest for the day.
Which will come first: McCain gets back to us on his position on birth control coverage in health insurance.
Palin gets back to us on McCain regulatory history? McCain and Palin get back on their position on Ted Stevens re-election.
Posted by: ricky | Sep 25, 2008 1:36:12 PM
If McCains campaign is suspended why is PALIN answering questions for the first time today? and his surrogates are on TV all day & ads are also continuing to run on TV?
The diversion is another lie
Posted by: watching | Sep 25, 2008 1:36:47 PM
Obama can't come to DC because he's trying to figure out how many botanical gardens he can (not) build with all that money.
Posted by: samhiguchi | Sep 25, 2008 1:36:55 PM
McCain unilaterally suspending his campaign is an unamerican, undemocratic, cowardly thing to do.
Democratic societies do not flinch in the face of adversity and to call off the electoral process is absolutely the wrong action and sends a terrible message to the world. Our democracy has survived much worse and this rash decision is just one more piece of evidence that John McCain does not have the temperment to be the leader of the free world.
