September 26, 2008 5:27 PM
ABC News' George Stephanopoulos reports: Senate sources say a Senate vote on a bailout bill is "unlikely" before Wednesday.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said the Senate will stay in session as long as necessary to get the bailout package passed.

Why haven't the Democrats called for investigations? They have used every excuse on the planet to launch witch trials and yet, not one call to investigate the largest financial disaster in history? Gee, I wonder why that is? Could it be becuase they know it leads right to them?
Most ethical Congress evah!

I am sure, that special interest groups, who have paid lobbiests, could fix any paperwork. Clinton, had bought de-regulatios, paperwork fixers, and now McCain will have to distance himself, from Rick Davis and Clinton scandels. After all, what if they try to buy Joe Biden. They made Obamas paperwork disappear before. After all, the FBI has been bought before. Those special interest groups, are still on Wall Street, and in other postistion in HIGH Government. McCain should not Debate Obama. McCain is still best friends with Clinton, and has covered up Rick Davis' Paperwork as best as he could. The 'Secret Government', is still in place. I'm disgusted by the actions of Pelosi and Reid.
Just days ago, Reid got out there and exclaimed, "Nobody knows what to do".
Paulson calls Lindsey Graham and begs for republican intervention.
Graham calls McCain asking for intervention as the current leader of the Republican party.
McCain suspends operations and flies to Washington to help seal the deal.
Once he gets there, he's demonized by the media as pulling a 'stunt'.
Obama has to be dragged from the resort in Clearwater, kicking and screaming into Washington to be a part of the most important debate of OUR lives. He felt it fine to "be available by phone if needed".
The bill was packed with pork, the bulk of which would be delivered to ACORN, the very organization that Obama represented.
This dem is leaving the party, will register as Independent and will now vote for McCain. This attempt at totally putting the screws to the American people and the money in the pockets of special interests who are in Obama's pockets is enough.
Enough. We need a leader. Not a corrupt community organizer who will take my hard earned money and give it back to a corrupt 'community organizer' organization.

Bullying You Can Believe In: AIP Responds to Obama's Attack on the First Amendment
Washington, DC – September 26, 2008 – Barack Obama is now using local law enforcement officials to carry out his campaign of legal intimidation by assembling a group of high-ranking Missouri police officials and prosecutors – including St. Louis County Prosecutor Bob McCullough and City of St. Louis Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce – to identify and target anyone the campaign determines is producing “misleading” political advertisements.
“This is an outrageous and shocking attempt by the Obama campaign to again employ Stalinist, police state tactics against those who dare to disagree with Barack Obama,” said Ed Martin, American Issues Projects president. “I am frankly stunned to see public officials like McCullough and Joyce abusing their official prosecutorial positions to serve as attack dogs for a national political campaign. I am quite certain Missourians elected these individuals to enforce the laws and arrest criminals, not to throw people in jail for daring to practicing free speech.
"The Obama campaign continues to provide a chilling preview of what would happen to political freedom in an Obama administration.”
This new effort is only the most recent attempt by the Obama campaign to crack down on free speech. Obama’s lawyers twice demanded the Department of Justice investigate and prosecute the American Issues Project, its officers, board of directors, and donors. The campaign also threatened stations running American Issues Project’s ad in an unsuccessful attempt to compel them to pull the spot, and ran its own ad in response.
Notably, this ad failed to dispute a single fact the American Issues Project has put forth.

Dow up 196 yesterday, 121 today. WaMu fails but is quickly bought out by JPM. How much of this so-called credit "crisis" is actually real, and how much is political posturing. Sort of reminds me of the WMD panic as reason for invading Iraq. Just how much mileage do the Republicans expect to extract out of fear-mongering?

In 2005, the Senate Banking Committee, then under Republican control, adopted a strong reform bill, introduced by Republican Sens. Elizabeth Dole, John Sununu and Chuck Hagel, and supported by then chairman Richard Shelby. The bill prohibited the GSEs from holding portfolios, and gave their regulator prudential authority (such as setting capital requirements) roughly equivalent to a bank regulator. In light of the current financial crisis, this bill was probably the most important piece of financial regulation before Congress in 2005 and 2006. All the Republicans on the Committee supported the bill, and all the Democrats voted against it. Mr. McCain endorsed the legislation.....

NYT Revealed True Cause of Fannie Mae Crisis -- In 1999!
In a move that could help increase home ownership rates among minorities and low-income consumers, the Fannie Mae Corporation is easing the credit requirements on loans that it will purchase from banks and other lenders.
The action, which will begin as a pilot program involving 24 banks in 15 markets -- including the New York metropolitan region -- will encourage those banks to extend home mortgages to individuals whose credit is generally not good enough to qualify for conventional loans. Fannie Mae officials say they hope to make it a nationwide program by next spring.
Fannie Mae, the nation's biggest underwriter of home mortgages, has been under increasing pressure from the Clinton Administration to expand mortgage loans among low and moderate income people and felt pressure from stock holders to maintain its phenomenal growth in profits.
"Fannie Mae has expanded home ownership for millions of families in the 1990's by reducing down payment requirements," said Franklin D. Raines, Fannie Mae's chairman and chief executive officer. "Yet there remain too many borrowers whose credit is just a notch below what our underwriting has required who have been relegated to paying significantly higher mortgage rates in the so-called subprime market."

Whoa! We're going to have to wait an additional three business days before we finalize a huge decision that could impact the global economy?
That's no way to run America. We like immediate gratification.
Either we're doomed, or it would be better in the long run to take a reasoned look at the different plans before we commit to one.
I'm just not sure.

McCain Leads, Obama Follows
The neat thing about a presidential race between two Senators is that voters can make direct comparisons between the candidates that otherwise are not possible. This year, the comparisons work in John McCain's favor.
McCain pushed for the "surge" in Iraq. Obama opposed it, saying it wouldn't work. When it worked, Obama said he knew it would work, but defended his vote anyway.
Two years ago, McCain warned that Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac were in serious need of reform and he so-sponsored legislation to reform it. Obama did not support this legislation, which the Democrats blocked. Obama was near the top of the list of recipients of contributions from Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac, and two executives from these outfits were among his campaign advisors.
McCain also had the right line on the Russian invasion of Georgia (though this was not a legislative issue). As Rudy Giuliani recounted at the Republican Convention, Obama waffled for a while and eventually adopted McCain's view. McCain led; Obama followed
Most recently, McCain figured out that he needed to get back to Washington to engage, and if possible provide leadership in, the momentous issue of the financial sector bailout. While McCain opted to help make something happen, Obama said he could be reached by phone if anything did happen.
Obama's position was untenable, so he eventually followed McCain back to Washington.
Hoping to cover for their "follower" of a presidential candidate, Democrats are claiming that McCain has done more harm than good in the legislative debate. Although this is always a possibility with McCain (and, indeed, just about anyone who is willing to lead), the Democrats' case is absurd.
Their argument is that Congress was on the verge of a deal until McCain entered the picture and caused Republican House members to block it. The problems with this script are several. First, there is no evidence that House Republicans were ever on board with any deal. Second, the support of House Republicans is not needed to pass bailout legislation. The Democrats control the House.
The Democrats counter the second point by saying that a majority of House Dems won't support a deal unless House Republicans provide "cover." But this argument raises more problems than it addresses. First, it is a serious condemnation of House Dems (too gutless to do what they think is right, even in the face of a potential economic meltdown). Second it is a serious condemnation of Nancy Pelosi (too ineffective to whip her troops into line even in the face of a potential economic meltdown). Third, it casts serious doubt on the wisdom of the deal that McCain is falsely accused of scuttling. If the deal made sense, House Dems wouldn't believe they need "cover" from House Republicans.
Fourth, the "cover" argument shows what a non-factor Obama is in all of this. The Dems complain (preposterously) that McCain has riled up House Republicans or failed to bring them around. Meanwhile, no one seems to be asking why Obama hasn't helped the House leadership obtain sufficient support from House Dems.
There's a reason why this question isn't being asked. Obama is lightweight from whom leadership is not, and should not, be expected.

Obama Law Firm Got Millions for ACORN from Predatory Lender, Famous Dope, Inc. Bank
August 26, 2008 (LPAC)--ACORN, which conduits hundreds of millions of dollars for George Soros-directed political operations and the Obama campaign, got a huge boost in 2002 through a deal worked out by Barack Obama's law firm.
Obama was then an Illinois state senator and since 1993 had practiced law with Miner, Barnhill & Galland.
The Obama firm represented ACORN in a class-action suit brought in 2002 against Household Finance Company, a notoriously predatory sub-prime lender that was in the process of being taken over by Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank (HSBC), historically a central financing agency for British Far East opium trafficking. Obama's partner Sarah Siskind, lead counsel in ACORN et al. v. Household International, Inc., 2002 WL 1563805 (Superior Court of California 2002), reached a settlement with HSBC.
The deal, worth hundreds of millions of dollars in payments, stipulated that HSBC would pay undisclosed amounts of the settlement to ACORN, which was supposed to counsel borrowers on how to cope with their victimizaton.
The British bank explained the arrangement with ACORN in a 2003 press release:
"Household International, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of HSBC Holdings plc (NYSE: HBC), the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), and a series of borrowers from across the United States, announced today they have reached a proposed settlement of nationwide class action litigation relating to the mortgage lending practices of Household's two U.S. branch-based businesses, Household Finance Corporation and Beneficial Corporation.... In connection with the proposed settlement, Household has agreed to provide funding over a three-year period for ACORN-sponsored financial counseling and literacy programs."
In 2004, the year after the settlement, members of the Obama firm contributed about $26,000 to Obama's initial campaign for the U.S. Senate -- alongside George Soros, who met with Obama and raised $60,000 for the campaign. ACORN counsel Sarah Siskind gave Obama $1,000 and gave $500 to the other Soros project, MoveOn.org.
In 2001, the year before his firm represented ACORN, Obama had been a director of the Wood Fund of Chicago, when the fund awarded a $75,000 grant to "Chicago ACORN (fiscal agent is American Institute for Social Justice Inc)." The grants from Woods Fund to Acorn continued for several years, totalling over $300,000. That year, 2001, the chairman of the Woods Fund board on which Obama served was Howard J. Stanback, who ran New Kenwood LLC, a company founded by now-convicted fraudster Tony Rezko and Rezko's commercial partner Allison Davis. Mr. Davis was Barack Obama's former boss at the law firm, then called Davis Miner Barnhill & Galland. Another member of the Woods Fund board that started funding ACORN was William C. Ayers, former Weather Underground terrorist.
In the 2003 press release put out by HSBC, an ACORN spokesman is quoted praising the British bank:
"Household's performance on implementing the Foreclosure Avoidance Program has been exceptional, and we are hopeful that our future work together will deliver enormous benefits to subprime borrowers."
In fact, HSBC plunged ahead with sub-prime lending, not very well covered with the ACORN oak-leaf. In 2007 alone, HSBC had to write off the $11.7 billion in predatory loans to their American victims.

How beautiful is the irony of the events over the last few days.
For 8 years the Liberal/Democrats have been bashing the Presidents economic policies. Now they are screaming because the Republicans won't go along with Bush's plan for the bailout.
The once 'champions' of lowering the national debt, are now pushing for the single largest increase in our history.
And. . . in typical short sighted Liberal fashion, they are pushing a plan that will make it impossible for Obama to get ANY of his domestic policies enacted should he be so lucky to get elected. What a useless presidency that will turn out to be.
Once again, proof positive, that the Liberals don't have an organized, consistent, and rational thought in their heads.

"Why on earth is there money allocated (earmarked) by Democrats for ACORN in bill???"
There isn't.
"It would surprise me if they even know ACORN is included in the democrats version of the bailout."
It would surprise me too, because it isn't.
"the Democrats (per their leader Obama) are trying earmark money for ACORN in the Bail Out Bill"
They're not.
Seriously, do you all believe everything you read on blogs, etc., without investigating it yourself?
What's included is a provision for what happens to the profits resulting from the bailout bill, if they actually are any. That's not a earmark, that's an inherent, necessary, part of the bill. The provision is that 20% of them will go to - no, not ACORN - the National Housing Trust Fund. This is a trust set up to provide affordable housing for low-income Americans.
The only link to ACORN is that they are one of many organizations that have applied for and received grants from the fund in the past. In order for them to receive money from this bill, there would first have to be profits, and ACORN would then have to successfully apply for a grant from the trust fund. Note that there are limits on how much any one institution can receive, and numerous conditions attached to grants, including prohibitions on what they can be used for. Google 'national trust housing fund' and check their website for more details.
