Stephanopoulos: Three Questions Republicans Are Asking Themselves About Palin
September 02, 2008 9:24 AM
ABC News' George Stephanopoulos reports: Republicans were rocked yesterday by new revelations about Gov. Sarah Palin, R-Alaska, and are increasingly worried about what else they may not know about Sen. John McCain's, R-Ariz., running mate.
Republican sources say three questions are being asked by delegates at the Republican Convention in St. Paul, Minn., and by party operatives around the country:
1) What else is out there about Palin? Monday brought the announcement that Palin's 17-year-old daughter is pregnant; news that Palin was once a member of the fringe Alaskan Independence Party; and the revelation that Palin's husband was arrested for a DUI in the 1980s. The news about Palin has continued to come this morning, with the Washington Post reporting that Palin hired a lobbying firm during her time as the mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, to lobby for millions in earmarks for the small town.
2) Was the vetting process complete and professional? Reports in Tuesday's New York Times and Alaska Daily News both suggest the McCain campaign's vetting of Palin was swift and superficial, although the McCain campaign continues to insist that Palin was thoroughly and professionally vetted.
3) And most significantly, what message will voters hear about McCain's judgment that he chose someone to be his running mate who has almost no national security experience and who is so much of an unknown quantity?
As these questions continue to hang over Republicans, I'll be asking McCain's opponent for the presidency, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., for his perspective on these issues in an exclusive interview airing Sunday on "This Week."

Palin's husband got a DUI 22 years ago? Fine. go tell us about Obama's drug use 22 years ago.

Just the tip of the iceberg. It speaks volumes to how McCain is so completely out of touch.
I'm not sure which scenario would be better for McCain: she was not vetted, or was - and still thought of as a good choice. Either way, not the best display of good judgment.

I can't help wondering if McCain has changed his mind about wanting to be President, but can't simply back out at this point. What better way to assure his loss than to select a running mate who is emminently unqualified to fill the job should something happen to him?

She will not survive the week as soon as the fringe group story hits the airways.

Maybe Ann Coulter could give some sage advice on the issues?

I'm glad that I am not a devoted Republican. But the faithful will not allow facts to deter them from the ticket. We have friends, names withheld, who although they are worried about their son after three tours in Iraq still worry more about whether the candidates are pro life. Go figure. I have never understood why people who in theory are against government want to use it to cram their views down the throats of others. This Republican Party I no longer recognize.

McCain made a good choice for Obama. I almost feel like he is trying to lose this race. Like he knows how bad Washington is messed up and he really doesn't want any part of it.

geevil, McSame has not vetted seriously Miss Alaska at all, he was impressed by her beauty, few of her remarks and age and made his decision. Now the problem is that slowly but certainly media will do its work and carry our its national responsibility. This greatest nation on earth will not be between the hands of Miss Alaska and the old McCain, because they are not capable of taking care of it. God save America from McPaulin. God bless America and God bless Obama.OBAMA/BIDEN08

Her daughter being pregnant or that Gov. Palin's 5th child is actually her grandchild are not so much of an issue. The issue is why did she lie? She also voluntarily told the American people that she told the Congress "Thanks, but no thanks" with regard the Bridge to Nowhere only to be discovered from the Editor & Publisher that she did make the construction of bridge to nowhere her previous campaign cry and that she received money for that project which she later abandoned so she could use that same money to finance other projects. If you cannot be trusted with little things, how can you be trusted with bigger things?

I am not a right-winger but I do think that Mrs. Palin should consider staying home to take care of her baby and her pregnant daughter who is going to need her full support in the coming months. I also do not think it's fair for her to be putting her 17 year old daughter thru all this.

Palin was obviously a poor choice.
She brings nothing to the ticket, has too many negatives and no real positives.
McCain only wanted her because she is a woman and was hoping Hillary suppporters would flock to him, and they are not.
It just shows how reckless and incompetent he really is... if he was a true maverick like he says he is, he would have gone with his first choice.
No way, No how to McCain/Palin

At least the McCain camp got a boost from Palin's new press secretary Maria Bartiromo who just happened to be interviewing her in Alaska last week. Was NBC setup? Sounds like Rove

Look, Cocaine addiction, Williams Ayers afffiliation, Rezko the felon-mortgage deal, Jeremiah Wright God Damned America, Sinclair the blow-job...Now, on the right-wing, the Palin's drama. This is exciting and this is truly cut-throat politics! Cannot stand the heat, get the hell out of the kitchen. Let's the game begins.

Blowhard Joe Biden says
"if Barack grew up in our neighborhood like he did in Kansas being raised by his grandparents"
Obama never lived in Kansas.

McCain is an idiot and this VP pick will go downa s the worst in history. What does it say about the man's judgement that he did not vet his VP pick? Even sales folks working at Walmart get vetted better than this clown, palin. Look at Rasmussen poll out this morning. McCain just handed the Presidency to Obama on a platter. What a loser.
Posted by: Kevin | Sep 2, 2008 9:58:04 AM
So much for John McCain's judgment! It's quite apparent that Sarah Palin's vetting was minimal at best. Are these the best people that the Republican Party can put forward to lead our country? It's definitely time for governmental change in the United States -- it's time for Obama/Biden! Howard Gallas, Reno, NV.

The only constitutional duty that the VP has is to step in should something happen to the president. It's even more important because McCain is 72, has had cancer etc. Palin does not meet that standard in any way, shape or form. Terrible pick. Plus she appears to be a drama queen, who is dominating the news day after day with negative stories. Stick a fork in McCain.
