Women Increase Political Donations in 2008 Presidential Race
September 23, 2008 5:56 AM
ABC News' Jennifer Parker reports: Women have given more money to the 2008 presidential candidates than they ever have before, tripling women's donations in 2000, a new study of women's political giving found.
The study, released Tuesday by the Women’s Campaign Forum Foundation, found that women have given $109 million to presidential candidates, Democrat Barack Obama and Republican John McCain, in checks of $200 or more -- triple the amount of money female donors gave in the 2000 presidential race, with still 42 days left to go in the race.
That doesn't include women's small donations, in amounts under $200, that has spurred Obama's fundraising ability, or women's political giving to Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., who was vying to become the nation's first female president until her bid ended in June.
"Women's political giving is even higher when you consider there was this shadow candidate that was absorbing some of the money that would have gone to the presidential candidates for so long," said Ilana Goldman, president of the Women's Campaign Forum.
The study found that the greater emphasis the candidates are placing on online donations, is appealing to women who are looking to the Web for political information.
"Women just require a vast amount more of information before deciding to make an investment," Goldman said.
"You see the Web giving an opportunity to allow women to do the research they need to do, to be able to engage their friends and family," she said, "so, the Internet is really providing an opportunity for campaigns and candidates to engage women and give them this information in a timely, cost-effective way."
However, in a matchup of political donations between Obama and McCain, the study found women still lag behind men when it comes to political donations, representing about 27 percent of all donors.
"Women give very generously to charities and they act generously in politics -- they're voting, they're holding the clipboards, they're sitting at the tables, so they're doing all the work, they're just not writing the checks," Goldman said.
The Republican National Committee has also reported that McCain's selection of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has boosted donations, which could boost women's political giving even further.
Goldman said that, while women are beginning to become major players in the world of presidential donations, they still lack in giving to other elected officials.
"The number of women that are giving at the presidential level is growing by leaps and bounds, but when you look down the ticket at congressional races, women are still just a third of political giving," Goldman said.

New poll released today by AP shows Obama has made NO progress with Hillary supporters in the last 3 months.
And that's because we are still angry that:
The REAL votes cast by REAL people in REAL elections certified by the MI and FL State of Elections were disregarded
The horrible and unfair treatment of Hillary by the Obama loving press
That Obama and his campaign played the race card against the Clintons despite their 30 year history of promoting and supporting civil rights
That the person who got the most votes is not the nominee
That Hillary was not selected as VP
Would serve Obama and the Super Delegates right should he lose in November.

JOAN... THEN TELL SARAH THAT HER NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOR IS NOT COMING TO HER DEBUTANT (FREELOADER) PARTY :
DID YOU KNOW THAT A RUSSIAN SQUADRON OF NAVY SHIPS ARE HEADED FOR VENEZUELA AND THAT CHAVEZ JUST ARRIVED IN CHINA FOR A VISIT? PALIN??? DON'T THINK SO.

BEIJING: Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said his country is no longer the backyard of the U.S. and that he finds it more important to visit Beijing than New York, as he arrived Tuesday in China's capital on first leg of an international tour.

I find it extremely amusing how Bill Clinton has been making appearances all week talking about what a great choice Sarah Palin was for McCain's V.P.
I'll bet his comments have just been ticking off Obama no end, let alone the contradictory comments Biden has been making all week............

First thing I have seen on the McCain's sons. Worth a look.
John McCain's Sons
Talk about putting your most valuable where your mouth is! Apparently this was not 'newsworthy' enough for the media to comment about. Can either of the other presidential candidates truthfully come close to this? ... Just a question for each of us to seek an answer, and not a statement.
You see...character is what's shown when the public is not looking. There were no cameras or press invited to what you are about to read about, and the story comes from one person in New Hampshire .
One evening last July, Senator John McCain of Arizona
arrived at the New Hampshire home of Erin Flanagan for sandwiches, chocolate-chip cookies and a heartfelt talk about Iraq .
They had met at a presidential debate, when she asked the candidates what they would do to bring home American soldiers - - soldiers like her brother, who had been killed in action a few months earlier.
Mr. McCain did not bring cameras or press. Instead, he brought his youngest son, James McCain, 19, then a private first class in the Marine Corps about to leave for Iraq . Father and son sat down to hear more about Ms. Flanagan's brother Michael Cleary, a 24-year-old Army First Lieutenant killed by an ambush ... a roadside bomb.
No one mentioned the obvious: In just days, Jimmy McCain could face similar perils. 'I can't imagine what it must have been like for them as they were coming to meet with a family that .....' Ms. Flanagan recalled, choking up. 'We lost a dear one,' she finished.
Mr. McCain, now the presumptive Republican nominee, has staked his candidacy on the promise that American troops can bring stability to Iraq . What he almost never says is that one of them is his own son, who spent seven months patrolling Anbar Province and learned of his father's New Hampshire victory in January while he was digging a stuck military vehicle out of the mud.
Two of Jimmy's three older brothers went into the military. Doug McCain, 48, was a Navy pilot. Jack McCain, 21, is to graduate from the Naval Academy next year, raising the chances that his father, if elected, could become the first president since Dwight D. Eisenhower with a son at war.
I chose to share this with those who I believe will pass it on, to others who will pass it on. We hear so much inflated trash out there. How about a simple act of kindness ... and dedication to others placed above oneself?
Has anybody heard if Barack Hussein Obama has served in The American Armed Services?
This is for all you Barack voters. From Barack's book, Audacity of Hope:
'I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly
direction.'
HE DID NOT SAY STAND WITH AMERICANS!!!!!

Barefootboy, at least TRY to keep your racist attitudes under wraps in your posts. Shoe shine BOY???!!!! My God, are you living in Mississippi in the 50's?? Obama is a Harvard Law grad, a lawyer, and a U.S. Senator. You ignorang right-wingers really should be ashamed and embarrassed, and shouldn't have the right to vote.

Think about this!
Much is made of McCain's age. Has anyone brought up the
fact that Obama smokes and both of early age? Plus Biden has had two brain aneurysms which
could have killed him. If they both died while in office,
that would leave Nancy Pelosi as president.
I can't think of a better reason to vote for McCain
& Palin.

Topic: Recap of Governor Sarah Palin's Florida Visit
Governor Sarah Palin Draws Record Crowd to Rally at the Villages
Governor Sarah Palin received a rock star's welcome from the crowd at the Villages on Sunday afternoon. According to a local fire marshal, Mike Tucker, there were over 60,000 people in attendance Sunday, which would make Governor Palin's appearance at the Villages the largest political rally in Florida history.
The crowd at the Villages welcomed Palin with shouts of "USA!" and she chanted back along with them. In her address, Governor Palin promised that hard working Americans, due to their industrious spirit, will lift the country out of its current financial crisis. She pledged that a McCain-Palin administration would fight to keep taxes low, hold Wall Street accountable, and create new jobs for struggling Americans.

I think there is a lot of blame to go around on this mess. How anyone can know who is at fault is beyond me? I do however know that the democrats are in charge of congress, the banking committee, and that Paulson is a democrat so they can be blamed for not sounding the alarm before it got to this point. I heard Obama yesterday blaming it on "they". Who are "they"? fortunately, there is some property tied to these mortgages, which even though it is depreciated right now will eventually appreciate as it always does. Maybe the taxpayers won't be stuck with as much as it sounds. Just don't let the congress tack on add-ons.

How smart are we as women to vote for a party that is completely opposed to everything that Hillary stands for just because we are mad at Barack Obama and don't want to play with the Democrats anymore? It's vindictive and bitchy. Two things that chauvinist like to call women. Some would say typical female behavior.
Posted by: jane | Sep 23, 2008 8:58:00 PM
Well, I guess we will be "vindictive and bitchy" then. We find that those two things are a helleva lot better than being sexist and racist.

Hillary got as many votes hussein did and she won the states that Democrats usually win. Hillary should be the nominee not hussein.
Now hussein needs to be bailed out. He thinks that he can have biden drop out (health reasons) and then Hillary will run as Vice President and bail hussein out.
Unreal that hussein thinks Hillary will jump in after he urinated all over her and Bill during the primaries!
Hillary is NOT a cheap whore! She will NOT bail out hussein and his rapidly sinking ship.
Interesting how hussein is very similar to the Titanic. Everyone thought the Titanic was unsinkable. The press thinks that the Presidency is hussein's--that he has already won. The Titanic sank on its maiden voyage--just like hussein will lose in a landslide!
It was an iceberg that brought the Titanic down. Palin (Alaska--icebergs) brought hussein down, though hussein and biden are making it very easy.
The Titanic was the most expensive ship at the time, but it didn't matter. Hussein has raised and spent the most money ever...but it isn't helping him either.
The Titanic brought down a lot of people with it. Hussein will take down a lot with him but Hillary will not be one of them--she knew better than to get on the Titanic.
Like many others, this will be the first time that I vote for a republican. Like many others, I am not voting for mccain. I am voting for Palin and voting against hussein!

SORRY ABOUT MY LAST TWO RANTS.
I JUST GET PISSED OFF WHEN PEOPLE STATE THAT OBAMA IS A TERRORIST.
THEN SOMETHING HAPPENED...I READ ARTICLES OUTSIDE MY LITTLE CIRCLE WHERE I GOT ALL MY "INFORMATION" BEFORE.
NOW, I DON'T KNOW IF OBAMA IS A RACIST AND TERRORIST, BUT HIS ASSOCIATIONS DO RAISE MANY MANY QUESTIONS, MAINLY WRIGHT, AYERS, OSAMA, AND THAT GUY FROM IRAN WHO IS TRYING TO BUILD A NUCLEAR BOMB.
ALSO, I KNEW THAT OBAMA HAD MORE EXPERIENCE THEN PALIN, AT LEAST UNTIL I REALIZED THE TRUTH--THAT A GOVERNOR IS MORE EXPERIENCED THAN A COMMUNITY AGITATOR, AND OH YEA...PALIN IS THE VICE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE WHILE INEXPERIENCED OBAMA IS THE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE!
WHAT IS MOST INTERESTING IS THAT PALIN HAS BEEN INVESTIGATED BY THE PRESS MORE IN THREE DAYS THAN OBOMBER HAS IN TWO YEARS---WHY?
I NEED TO READ MORE ABOUT THIS GUY FROM MANY DIFFERENT SOURCES!

I've read some of these posts and I have to agree that theres to many questions about Obama that needs to be answered. How am I supposed to vote for someone I don't know nothing about. I heard that he doesn't want to ban guns but wants to ban the making of ammo. What good is a gun if theres no ammo? How can I hunt wit no ammo? Obama needs to be invistaged becuse of the seriouseness of the charges.

NO MORALE
NO SOUL
NO RESPONSIBILITY WHATSOEVER
REPUBLICANS WON'T TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR ACTIONS
THEY FAIL MISERBLY AT THEIR DUTY OF PROTECTING THEIR COUNTRY FROM TERROR, MAKING THE BIGGEST TERRORIST EVER THEIR PRESIDENT.
AND NOW, THE BULLIES ARE AT IT AGAIN.
CALLING NAMES, INSULTING. DISRESPECTING.
YOU CAN CALL ME GAY, YOU CAN CALL ME WHATEVER YOU WANT. I DID NOT VOTE FOR BUSH. THAT ALONE LETS ME SLEEP AT NIGHT.
