All Hands on Deck in Economic Crisis: Biden Says Obama Offers Steady Hand, McCain an Uncertain One
October 10, 2008 3:14 PM
ABC News' Matthew Jaffe Reports: Democratic vice-presidential nominee Joe Biden wrapped up his Show-Me State whirlwind tour by stating that Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill, offers "steady hands" and "the most respected economic team of advisers ever" to lead the nation past its current financial crisis, while Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., offers only "an uncertain hand" and "the same economic advisers that got us into this place."
"The tools to deal with this problem are available to us," Biden said at Jordan Valley Park in Springfield, his fourth and final Missouri event in the last 24 hours. "It’s within our capacity to deal with these problems, particularly this economic crisis, but here’s the question for the American people. It’s simple and straightforward. Into whose hands are they gonna place these tools? Into whose hands are they gonna place these tools? The steady hands of Barack Obama backed up by the finest pool of advisers this country has ever seen? Or, or, what I think is fair to say, you’ve observed the uncertain hand of a McCain administration, backed up by some of the very same economic advisers who got us into this place in the first place."
Biden, D-Del., who noted that he has "never seen people as apprehensive and some literally as fearful as where we are today," said that only a leader with "a steady hand" can help the country recover from this economic crash.
"We’ve been through tough times before, ladies and gentlemen, and we’ve emerged from those tough times in our history stronger than before we went into those tough times. And we’ve done this, we’ve done this when we’ve done it because we’ve had leaders, leaders who have had a steady hand, sound ideas to get our country back on track."
The six-term senator recalled a comment he made to President Bush about the importance of leadership in times of crisis.
"President Bush once said to me in the Oval Office, he said "Well, at least I’m leading". On a different matter. And I said "Mr. President, look behind you, I don’t see anybody following you." So folks, you can’t lead if people do not follow. And Barack Obama is a leader."
"Don’t think for a moment, folks, that we cannot get ourselves out of this problem," Biden reassured Show-Me State supporters. "We have done it time and time again. We know how to get this job done, and we’re gonna get through, we’re gonna get through and turn the country around."
While Biden had harsh words for McCain on the economy, his remarks about the Republican's running mate Gov. Sarah Palin bordered on condescending.
"She's kind of, she’s kind of neat, isn’t she?" Biden asked the audience, who responded with scattered boos.
"We had a debate, I think it was a debate," the Delaware lawmaker continued. "And, at one point, at one point she turned to me and said "Well, I was only in second grade when Sen. Biden was elected to the United States Senate." What I refrained from saying was the last time, you were in sixth grade the last time John McCain had a good idea. You know look, the only new idea John’s come up with in this campaign is a very, very bad idea: the one he announced to spend $300 billion of your money to continue to bail out the banks and the people who took the risk."
But Gov. Palin didn't make that comment during the St. Louis debate, but rather at a September 29 rally in Columbus, Ohio.

I don't think Biden is perfect in the way he speaks, but I do think his heart is in the right place when it comes to fighting for everyday Americans.
My ballot is in the box already. That envelope will help bring Obama and Biden one step closer to an Ohio victory!

For you die-hard supporters for His Nothingness. The market crash is a vivid warning of what you will see under a Zero-bama administration.
Zero-bama pushed hard to pass a so-called economic stimulus program, basically giving some of you up to $700 bucks, to "save" the economy. On the contrary, HRC wanted a targeted economic plan aimed at banking and mortgage crisis - this was 12 months ago! Yet, the Congress, headed by his House Mommy and Senate Daddy wanting to show their support and to pick an Affirmative Action candi, went along, ignoring the real crisis and a viable solution at that time, again 1 freeking year ago.
Now, this $700 did nothing, as characteristic to His Nothingness, to the economy; actually it led to the down-slide of more than 40%!!!! in the market. On top of this, this phony still wants to give you $1000 to (1) buy your vote if you vote for him, and (2) boost and rescue the economy if you elect him.
This is a serious judgment problem. Has he really ever made a good judgment call when he has the responsibility of doing something????
Are you blind supporters really as moronic as this phony is!

I suppose you don't think the comments Palin has made not only about Biden, but about Obama have been condescending? If Palin had the Harvard Law degree and were treated with such disdain by the Obama campaign, the uproar would be unimaginable. Palin showed such class, she trashed Biden as he was away from the campaign to attend his mother-in-laws funeral. I think Larry King's show last night with Kathleen Parker and the daughter of former Senator Paul Laxault showed a much more mainstream side of the Republican Party. Michelle Laxault said that Wm Buckley and Ronald Reagan would be horrified at what the party has become in this election - questioning patriotism, calling someone a traitor, allowing the rhetoric at their campaign rallies to spew racist hatred and incindiary behavior. She said that was not the Republican party she had been raised in. I can't understand how it is pertinent to make these inconsequential asides as what is at the end of Jake's blog, when Rome is burning and we all know that McCain's campaign is only about distraction at this point in his desperate campaign. McCain is an angry, erratic, out of touch politician whose sole focus is not the economy or the American people. It is solely about putting McCain in the White House. The voters see right through this.

Obama/Biden vs McCain/Palin, what if things were switched around?.....think about it.
Would the country's collective point of view be different?
Ponder the following:
What if the Obamas had paraded five children across the stage, including
a three month old infant and an unwed, pregnant teenage daughter?
What if John McCain was a former president of the Harvard Law Review?
What if Barack Obama finished fifth from the bottom of his graduating class?
What if McCain had only married once, and Obama was a divorcee?
What if Obama was the candidate who left his first wife after a severe
disfiguring car accident, when she no longer measured up to his standards?
What if Obama had met his second wife in a bar and had a long affair while
he was still married?
What if Michelle Obama was the wife who not only became addicted to pain
killers but also acquired them illegally through her charitable organization?
What if Cindy McCain graduated from Harvard?
What if Obama had been a member of the Keating Five?
(The Keating Five were five United States Se nators accused of corruption
in 1989, igniting a major political scandal as part of the larger Savings
and Loan crisis of the late 1980s and early 1990s.)
What if McCain was a charismatic, eloquent speaker?
What if Obama couldn't read from a teleprompter?
What if Obama was the one who had military experience that included
disc ipline problems and a record of crashing seven planes?
What if Obama was the one who was known to display publicly, on many
occasions, a serious anger management problem?
What if Michelle Obama's family had made their money from beer distribution?
What if the Obamas had adopted a white child?
You could easily add to this list. If these questions reflected reality,
do you really believe the election numbers would b e as close as they are?
This is what racism does. It covers up, rationalizes and minimizes
positive qua lities in one candidate and emphasizes negative qualities in
another when there is a color difference.

Did anyone follow up with the obvious question-Then why is Obama and his team do something NOW instead of letting the market crash?
Oh, That Media

Why Obama hasn't fixed the economy? One President at a time. The democrats will fix the economy before Republicans find weapons of mass destruction or even find Bin Laden.
Hey dO the anwser is yes. Better than what you can offer.
For you die-hard supporters for His Nothingness. The market crash is a vivid warning of what you will see under a Zero-bama administration.
But this a Republican administration, not Obama's, yet.

please tell me what john mccain has done this economic crisis besides run around like a chicken with his head cut off
when he suspended his campaign to save the economy and get the bailout finished, and then it didnt work he said it was obamas fault and he gave all these reasons as to why it blew up and it was the dems fault
today the campaign is saying they meant to blow it up
so what is it
i mean its like the troopergate investigation, how many different things did palin say she fired wooten for?
i mean it changes week to week.. and the same can be seen with the financial crisis.
Mccain camp keeps changing their story.
Suddenly they went there to blow up the bailout deal? taht sure wasnt what we all saw happening, and it is backed up by three days of mccain trying to figure out a way to make himself not look like a gimmick.
and this is just today... the stories constantly change with these people
and still no talk about what they woudl do with the economy or hell even any talk about the economy whatsoever
they want to talk about obamas associations but not their own
its just pathetic
mccain was suppose to be an honorable man and his campaign has turned into a sleaze fest

geevill besides advice what policy could the inact ? what could the do without the power to enforce or push ahead an agenda untill they are in office and can appoint some of these people to post and what could they say even if good and would work that YOU , Mccain/Palin and others would just say that'll never work . So we'll have to wait till the Obama admin. takes office in Jan. to get things done we will then have a MAJORITY that can do things not this small one that makes it look like the dems are in charge you know the kind that the GOP had the previous 6 yrs and did nothing but tax breaks for the wealthy , NCLB that they never funded but you had to comply with oh but they gave us the war , deregulation, and the mes we're in right now

-- they want to talk about obamas associations but not their own

It really is.. he is doing what Bush did to him back in 2000.. and back then, McCain said:
"I just have to rely on the good judgment of the voters not to buy into these negative attack ads. Sooner or later, people are going to figure out if all you run is negative attack ads you don't have much of a vision for the future or you're not ready to articulate it."
McCain truly has no vision and everytime he articulates "Maverick", I think of those rust-buckets Ford made back in the 70's.

It is about lying and how Obama will continue to do what he has his whole political career nothing and lie

Announcer: Who is Barack Obama? A man with “a political baptism performed at warp speed.” Vast ambition.
After college, he moved to Chicago. Became a community organizer. There, Obama met Madeleine Talbot, part of the Chicago branch of ACORN. He was so impressive that he was asked to train the ACORN staff.
What did ACORN in Chicago engage in? Bullying banks. Intimidation tactics. Disruption of business. ACORN forced banks to issue risky home loans. The same types of loans that caused the financial crisis we’re in today.
No wonder Obama’s campaign is trying to distance him from the group, saying, “Barack Obama Never Organized with ACORN.” But Obama’s ties to ACORN run long and deep. He taught classes for ACORN. They even endorsed him for President.
But now ACORN is in trouble.
Reporter: There are at least 11 investigations across the country involving thousands of potentially fraudulent ACORN forms.
Announcer: Massive voter fraud. And the Obama campaign paid more than $800,000 to an ACORN front for get out the vote efforts.
Pressuring banks to issue risky loans. Nationwide voter fraud.
Barack Obama. Bad judgment. Blind ambition. Too risky for America.

"geevill besides advice what policy could the inact ? what could the do without the power to enforce or push ahead an agenda untill they are in office and can appoint some of these people to post"
No answers. No clues. Just elect Obama so he can appoint leftist liberals and socialist. Obama loves the living wage idea. Complete welfare package.

I suggest Republicans start bracing themselves for an Obama win.
