Biden Accuses McCain of Waffling on Homeowner Help Plan

ABC News' Matthew Jaffe reports: Democratic vice presidential nominee Joe Biden started his 24-hour swing through the Show-Me State Thursday with a swipe at Republican Sen. John McCain for already changing the mortgage buy-up plan that the GOP candidate introduced in Tuesday’s presidential debate in Nashville.

“John said he was going to spend $300 billion of your tax money to buy from banks bad mortgages that they now own. And he was going to buy them, though, at a discount, an authority, meaning he wasn’t going to buy them for what the bank paid for them -- he’s going to buy them for what their market value was," Biden said at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Mo. "And then on Wednesday morning he said, his campaign said, 'No, we made a mistake. We are going to buy them for exactly what the bank paid for them.'

"So, he’s going to spend $300 billion of your money so the banks don’t lose a single penny!" Biden continued. "I’m not making this up. I know it sounds like fiction, but I’m not making this up.

"That’s not bailing out the homeowner," Biden added. "You’re bailing out the bank."

In the first of his four events in Missouri over the next 24 hours, Biden cited the Republican nominee's reaction to the economic crisis as evidence that McCain does not have "a steady hand."

"The McCain campaign continues ... to lurch from one place to another, trying to convince you all that they’re capable of dealing with the incredibly difficult problem because, folks, the primary responsibility for the next president of the United States, in the first eight months to a year of his administration, is going to be dealing with this crisis, this authority we’ve given to the secretary of the Treasury to spend up to $7 billion of your money.

“Ladies and gentlemen, in a matter of months, days, even hours, John McCain has gone from first cutting regulation consumer protections from banks –- that was his initial position, cut those protections -- then ignoring the banks and lenders and not even talking about them, now to talking about banks and lenders, and now he’s gone to the point of actually wanting to reward banks and lenders for their greedy behavior," Biden continued. "Ladies and gentlemen, this is not a steady hand, and the latest proposal is not only bad for taxpayers, it’s bad for homeowners and it’s bad for the economy, and everybody seems to be aware of it this morning."

The candidate at the top of Biden's ticket, Sen. Barack Obama, said Wednesday in his interview with ABC News' Charlie Gibson that McCain has been making “some pretty over-the-top attacks” recently, but “wasn’t willing to say it to my face” in their debate; today, Biden echoed that same point.

“All of the things they said about Barack Obama in the TV, on the TV, at their rallies, and now on YouTube, and everything else they're doing before the debate, and all the things they're saying after the debate as recently as this morning, John McCain could not bring himself to look Barack Obama in the eye and say the same things to him. Look, folks, Claire said, Claire said your neighborhood's like mine. Well, in my neighborhood, when you've got something to say to a guy, you look him in the eye and you say it to him."

Biden was introduced by Show-Me State Sen. Claire McCaskill, who warned Missouri voters that they should expect to see the McCain campaign act “petty, small, and personal” these days.

“The oldest trick in their playbook, they’ve gone to it time and time again, the politics of fear and smear,” McCaskill said. “Now they want America to be afraid of this inspirational, smart, strong, humble, patriot, God-loving family man? That’s what they want? I’ll tell you what America should be afraid of. They should be afraid of four more years of Bush economics.”

Biden then followed McCaskill with a podium-pounding speech, promising that he and Obama would fulfill their pledges if elected to the Oval Office.

“We will keep our promises," said the Delaware lawmaker. "We will keep our promise to put the middle class first. We will keep our promise to end this war responsibly. We will keep our promise to bring significant change to this nation and bring it now! Now!" Biden exclaimed, slamming his fist down on the podium.

Obama Calls McCain Mortgage Plan ‘Risky’. Obama said the "surge" would not work! Obama doesn't want anything to help America...don't bring the troops to come home before he is elected...Obama is FIRST, not America. Vote Obama, crash America.

Obama is an empty suit. This guy breaks down the mortgage fight. http://dissentingjustice.blogspot.com/2008/10/obama-housing-flip-flop-rejects-mccains.html

and people wondered why Obama would pick Biden for his veep...see the reason now?

Senator Obama and Biden, two snake oil salemans selling their tonic that will cure anything--if it doesn't kill you first. Socialism is wrong and evil and that is what they are selling.

The Democrats are 80% responsible for our economic chaos. They refused time and again to try to head off the problem even when McCain brought it to their attention. SOCIALISM STINKS AND SMELLS.

"When you got something to say to a guy, you look him in the eye and you say it to him"

Ahhh, classic! That's how it is in most middle class neighborhoods...Seems McCain and Palin are more of the upper class, talk behind your back types. If McCain sincerely believed that garbage, and wanted to put country first...He would have told Obama how he felt, right then and there in front of millions.

2 days in a row, Give Em He11 Joe!

Jeanie, give it up.

No one cares about your rediculous accusations.

McCain PARTICIPATED in stalling regulators (sounds oddly familiar doesn't it?) so his buddy Keating could steal billions in American's retirement funds.

McCain took over $100,000 from Keating for his campaign.

McCain VACATIONED with Keating and used his beach house.

McCAIN aided Keating to fraud Americans by interveining on his behalf.

Obama worked on a charity board with Ayres 30 years AFTER the Weather Underground and attended a fundraiser.

Obama never participated in anything to do with the Weather Underground. He was 8 years old for Pete's sake.

Who's hands are really dirty?

Poor cynics,

Just parrots repeating what McChicken has fed them.

All while heading over the side of the cliff.

Cynics, you keep whining. We'll keep winning. Hope you got your parachute. It's a long, long way down, and you're already in a 90 degree nosedive.

POTUS OBAMA - Whining won't change it.

DB said: Mccain changes his mind every other day and Palin just has no mind of her own, yeah we are showing you our maverickness, even we do not know were we stand on the issues, lets get mavericky!!!

I hear ya DB! It's not like Obama's steadfast stands such as...

1.Obama became the first major-party candidate to reject public financing for the general election after earlier promises to accept it.

2.He not only embraced but promised to expand Bush's program to give more anti-poverty grants to religious groups, a split with Democratic orthodoxy.

3.On Iraq, Obama said Thursday that his upcoming trip there might lead him to refine his promise to quickly remove U.S. troops from the war.

And Biden isn't mindless. He's perfectly valid in his statements from the VP debate in saying.....

1.U.S. KICKED HEZBOLLAH OUT OF LEBANON

REGULATION: Biden falsely said McCain weakened regulation -- he actually called for more regulation on Fannie and Freddie.

One is a fabrication, the other is a lie.

You know that riot threat was used even when BO was running against Hillary. Sounds to me as if the BO camp is worried.
I noticed also that Zogby has said to ignore the current polls claiming BO will win by a landslide.
I believe that the McCain/Palin ticket will win — because I don’t think BO & cronies can continue to suppress the facts.

Waaaaaaaaah, said the cynics!

"THAT ONE" took my milkshake and now he's drank it! All of it!

My fellow prisoners, "That One" will make an example of me and everything I stand for. You once considered me to be your Great White Hope. "That One" has reduced me to the Great White Nope while moonlighting as Bozo the Clown.

A New York Supreme Court justice family's home was targeted by Bill Ayers, put out a statement Wednesday claiming "Barack Obama's friend tried to kill my family." Fact that Barack Obama lied when he says Bill Ayers is just a man that lives in my neighborhood. Bill Ayers held a campaign event in his own home for his friend Barack Obama in 1995. Obama and Ayers served TOGETHER on the Annenberg Challenge board FOR YEARS! Have you ever heard of Factcheck.org well it is owned by the Annenberg Foundation ---the same group that Barack Obama let look at his “birth certification”, not his original birth certificate to tell the public it is okay. The American public has be HAD!

I really like Joe. They way he communicates issues are very clear and convincing. He can defend and also critize Obama. I believe Joe and Barack are a real change for this ill country.
Only a shallow minded people will believe in what McPain says. We are too tired of the negative tone information. We need something positive to flourish our hopes for the future.

Barack Obama has said he will keep Paulson of the Treasury! The same man that was watching for years and didn't see the disaster coming!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: Ann | Oct 9, 2008 2:59:18 PM

Old attack, I might say the same thing to you. Of all that were brought up on charges, McCain was the only republican, and was exonerated.

The other 4,were democrats, and only John Glenn was exonerated from that group.

The prosecutor on the case , who by the way was a democrat, said...John McCain should never have been there in the first place, but the Dems wanted a republican to hang with their boys.

Obama is the socialist. The news came out yesterday. He registered as a New Party member for his run for Illinois State Senate. The New Party is a Socialist party. Ayres is a socialist. That's why he was fighting the establisment in the 70's and 80's.

And if Obama's so concerned about your constitutional rights, and securities, why did he vote yes on a bill to not only continue surveillance, but to expand it!

Ann said: Barack Obama has said he will keep Paulson of the Treasury! The same man that was watching for years and didn't see the disaster coming!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's because Paulson is a democrat, and while a CEO at Goldman Sachs, gave huge contributions to Obama. A favor owed.

I advise everyone to read the cover story on the current issue of Rolling Stone Magazine, entitled "Make Believe Maverick, the Real John McCain. Learn the true story behind McCain's life from birth to present. Hint: Even Ronald and Nancy Reagan terminated their friendship with him.

McCain is a SOCIALIST and an eratic, scary individual.

Buzz in the corridors of federal courts in Chicago — RICO investigation of ACORN and BHO campaign:

http://www.hillaryclintonforum.net/discussion/showthread.php?t=34745

We were told that ACORN was investigated in Illinois years ago, and it was a Fitzgerald case then. This means ACORN’s activities today, involving a conspiracy to commit multi-state voter fraud on SoetorObama’s behalf, are an extension of that previous ACORN case.

Our source in federal courts said, “Any crime that involves more than two people and is carried out across state lines qualifies as a corrupt organization. The fact that those “Goodwill” donations were made in Texas and received at Obama headquarters in Chicago or Washington means it qualifies for RICO.”

The “Goodwill donations” referred to above are the $228 million in undocumented, unverified campaign contributions the SoetorObama camp has received — which the McCain campaigned filed a complaint to the FEC on this past Monday.

We’ve also heard that the Clinton campaign filed complaints to the FBI and other federal agencies over SoetorObama’s fraud in the Iowa, Texas and other caucuses: voter intimidation, registration fraud, and other illegal activities.

The last thing we were told tonight in regards to all of this was that “the meme here is a tying together of all these various threads. That’s what you will see in the last weeks of the campaign: all things being tied together”.

If everything rumored here is true, it looks like David Axelrod, Howard Dean, Donna Brazile, SoetorObama himself, and possibly even Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid were all involved, together, in massive RICO violations, and thus federal fraud, if the DNC and party leadership knew what the SoetorObama campaign and ACORN were up to and allowed it to proceed. Knowledge of federal crimes being committed makes all parties accessories to those crimes — and part of the conspiracy to defraud the public.
