Biden Appears on Ellen, Says He'd Vote Against CA Amendment Banning Same-Sex Marriage
October 17, 2008 11:55 AM
ABC News' Matt Jaffe Reports: Joe Biden didn't bust a move with Ellen DeGeneres at a Thursday taping of her show, but he did take to the couch hitting Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin for not signing on to more debates and saying he'd vote against the California ballot measure that would ban same-sex marriage.
As Biden entered to David Bowie's "Changes", DeGeneres quipped, welcoming the Democratic vice presidential candidate the same way his Republican counterpart did at the onset of their October 2 debate: "Can I call you Joe?"
"Yeah, as long as you wink at me," Biden replied.
Biden followed actor Colin Farrell during the "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" taping set to air Monday and needled the talk show host on the line up.
"Let's talk about how I come out after Colin Farrell," continued Biden. "I'm playing the old guy role anyway, you know, this whole campaign and now I gotta come behind him! Jeez!"
The candidate at the top of the Democratic ticket, Sen. Barack Obama, is 47 -- 18 years junior to the six-term Delaware senator; Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the Republican vice presidential candidate, is 44.
"We appreciate both of you for lots of reasons," DeGeneres noted of her two guests.
"I'd like to be appreciated for his reasons, you know what I mean?" Biden said to audience laughter, before quickly adding: "Only kidding, I'm joking."
Biden's conversation with Ellen included much of his rhetoric from the stump. As he has done repeatedly in recent weeks, he reiterated his disappointment with the campaign tactics of his Senate colleague Sen. John McCain, calling recent robo-calls "over the top" and "out of character".
Biden also hit out at Plain for turning down an offer for a second vice presidential debate.
"Gov. Palin said she'd like to debate me more," Biden said. "Coincidentally, we'd been asked by a national police group if we'd each appear in a debate and I agreed to do that and she decided not to do that."
Biden also told DeGeneres, who recently married actress Portia de Rossi, that he opposed Proposition 8, an amendment on California's November ballot which would amend the state constitution to define marriage as solely between one man and one woman.
"If I lived in California, I'd clearly vote against Prop 8," Biden said.
Biden's appearance ended with an on-stage dunk-tank to raise money for breast cancer research with actress Julia Louis Dreyfus in the hot seat. Biden stood armed with a basket of pink ammunition to try and hit the bulls eye, warning that his Secret Service agents were standing at the ready to help him should his aim fail.
And they nearly had to step in. It took Biden until the last ball -- and a suggestion by DeGeneres to "pretend it's Sarah Palin" before he hit the bulls eye and sent Seinfeld's Elaine Benis splashing into the tank.

"Asked if he would support gay marriage, Biden said: "No. Barack Obama nor I support redefining from a civil side what constitutes marriage."
perhaps ABC can take a moment from attacking Joe the plumber to point out Biden is a LIAR. he said he was against gay marriage in the debate.

Biden cannot even say whether he is for or against Gay marriage. What a LIAR.

Oh, that Joe. Second billing to Colin Farrell. he was also on Leno last night, with McCain on Letterman, and no doubt McCain clobbered poor Joe in the ratings.
Sure, Joe, let's have another debate with you and Sarah again, you can do your fake Hillary tears, and shall we talk about your poor family values with your daughter getting arrested, and also your LIES about being shot down in Iraq?
But, as you run with Obama, LIES are just about all you know to get ahead, isn't it?
But, dear Joe, everyone remembers the ONE thing you said that was true:
"Obama is not ready to be President".
Thanks Joe, for speaking out on what everyone now knows!

Good for Joe!

What he said in the debate was that he DID support civil unions and all of the CONSTITUTIONAL rights afforded that union. However, he (and Palin) felt that marriage is a religious institution and should be defined as such.
In short, if your CHURCH says you're "married" then so be it. But the state can legally recognize a civil union between ANY two legal eligible persons.
Jeez....

liberati - I guess a 17 year old unmarried daughter is better? Of someone who abused her power to get someone fired.

Splittin' hairs again, geevill? All he's saying that he wouldn't support a constitutional amendment that banned gay marriage. If you left it up the the right-wingers, you'd have constitutional amendment coming out of your eyeballs. This is the Constitution we're talking about, whether it is the federal, or a state. Not something to play around with so cavalierly, as I'm guessing you would do. At any rate, whatsamatter dear? Afraid the gays are gonna have a decent life like we're ALL entitled to?

Joe Biden is an idiot. Can't you see that. He, along with Obama, will say whatever, do whatever, to win. There is nothing to Biden. ABC will always be for Obama and Biden. ABC is a liberal newwork. Don't watch them anymore, anyone, anytime.

When did Biden say he got "shot down" in Iraq? He never said that. His helicopter had to land due to severe weather conditions. And his daughter was arrested? How about Palin's son who evidently was a juvenile delinquent, so instead of going to college, he's now in Iraq (guess they are hoping the Armys straightens out his ***.)

Biden does not do what's right, he's no longer being a Catholic. He's selling his soul to the devil.

Rememeber Joe Biden said during the debate that he goes to a restaurant that is struggling in this economy.
That restaurant that Biden claims to visit has been closed for 10 years!
Since Biden has been a career politician for so long, no wonder he is such a LIAR and a shameless one at that.

Having a problem with reading comprehension, are we?
Biden said that he does not "support redefining from a civil side what constitutes marriage". This is what Prop 8 seeks to do.

Janice,
Your "logic" has certainly swayed me!!!

Of course the Obama/Biden ticket is against the will of the people.

Joe Biden an idiot? From someone hoping to see Sarah Palin a heartbeat from the US presidency, no doubt. Ironic and disgusting. Repugs just can't accept responsibility for their disastrously bad decisions over the past 8 years, and that goes double for the people voting for them. Letting a so-called "free market" run up billion dollar profits for the executives of companies run into the ground - just as like what Bush-Cheney did to the country itself. Maybe it's something in the water making these people like this - something industrial, from one of the companies whose lobbyists and representatives practically run congress and literally run our regulatory agencies (like EPA, FDA, USDA, etc).

Proposition 8 = bigotry
I can't understand why some people are so insecure about their own heterosexual marriage. Jesus would be more reasonable that these bigots.
Someone informed please help me. Where specifically in the bible did Jesus say that two members of the same sex could not marry (I'll check back later to see if I get any feed back).
God bless

Standing against a BAN on gay marriage is in step with being for Civil Unions, its not a lie or a flip flop.
Here's the trick, Banning Gay marriage is discriminatory, placing limits on other lifestyles because you disagree with it.
Being for Civil Unions allows for other lifestyles to enjoy benefits from monogamy similar to married couples.
If you people let fear and the Christian conservatives run this nation, then we will be no better than the Afgans who allowed the Taliban to take over and make religious laws and hold public executions in the local stadium.
I personally disagree with the Gay lifestyle, and that's my choice. Its not my place to decide for others, and attempting to legislate morality is a straight shot to our Founding fathers attempts to separate church and state.
Maybe you Gay haters should form your own nation, where your free to discriminate against anyone you disagree with. America is One nation, Under God, and Indivisible, unless you count Zealots dividing us down party lines, over abortion, taxation and right to life.
Didn't Bush Jr suggest he was the Uniter, yet somehow he has divided this nation. Maybe thats something he decided to do as the decider.

After listening to McCain spend most of the time on Letterman knocking Obama I switched to Leno and listened to Biden. It was refreshing to have someone who talked about the issues instead of trash talking his opponent. Besides, listening to McCain was like listening to a broken record, where he kept repeating the same tired old lies that everyone has repudiated.
