Biden Misses Phils Fall Classic Victory

ABC News' Matt Jaffe Reports: Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., calls himself a Philadelphia Phillies fan, so he had to be sitting on the edge of his seat Wednesday as his plane to Missouri departed Florida with the Phils hanging onto a slim 4-3 lead over the Tampa Bay Rays entering the top of the ninth inning, just three outs away from clinching their first World Series title in 28 years.

It wasn't until almost a half hour into the flight that a Biden staffer announced that the Fightin' Phils had emerged victorious.

Upon arrival in St. Louis, a reporter yelled out to Biden as he descended the plane onto the tarmac, "Senator, how 'bout them Phillies?!"

"I can go home now," replied Biden, flashing two thumbs up. "My wife...she was at the game."

The senator's spouse Jill and their granddaughter Maisy had attended the first six innings of Game 5 played on Monday, before it was washed out by rain that postponed the conclusion until Wednesday night, the first suspended game in World Series history.

On Friday morning, the day of the Phillies' championship parade, the Democratic vice-presidential nominee will be just down the road from the City of Brotherly Love at a rally at the University of Delaware.

And it should be quite the celebration. The title for sports' losing-est franchise is not only the Phils' first since 1980, but it's Philadelphia's first major sports crown in 25 years, the longest drought for any city with four major franchises.

Now that question is a joke. why hasn't the Ohio government employee who who illegally looked into Joe the plumber's records been fired?

Prepare for more Hope and Change. From the Columbus Dispatch:

---A state agency has revealed that its checks of computer systems for potential information on "Joe the Plumber" were more extensive than it first acknowledged.

Helen Jones-Kelley, director of the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, disclosed today that computer inquiries on Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher were not restricted to a child-support system.

The agency also checked Wurzelbacher in its computer systems to determine whether he was receiving welfare assistance or owed unemployment compensation taxes, she wrote.

Jones-Kelley made the revelations in a letter to Ohio Senate President Bill M. Harris, R-Ashland, who demanded answers on why state officials checked out Wurzelbacher.

Harris called the multiple records checks "questionable" and said he awaits more answers. "It's kind of like Big Brother is looking in your pocket," he said.

If state employees run checks on every person listed in newspaper stories as buying a business, "it must take a lot of people a lot of time to run these checks," he said. "Where do you draw the line?"---

Well obviously you focus those checks on people who embarrass The One and threaten his drive for power.

Obama did not sell Mighty Putty or The Juicer in his infomercial last night, but it would have made the production a lot more interesting.

The Associated Press watched it, and surprisingly, the 30-minute infomercial also failed to impress them:

“Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama was LESS THAN UPFRONT in his half-hour commercial Wednesday night about the costs of his programs and the crushing budget pressures he would face in office.

Obama’s assertion that “I’ve offered spending cuts above and beyond” the expense of his promises is accepted ONLY by his partisans. His vow to save money by “eliminating programs that don’t work” masks his FAILURE throughout the campaign to specify what those programs are - beyond the withdrawal of troops from Iraq.”

Calvin Woodward reports that Obama misled viewers on at least five key points in his 30-minute final argument:

--Health care costs - Obama claimed his plan would lower costs by $2500 per year per family, but it DOES NOT. In fact, Obama can’t point to any particular cost reductions. He plans to spend $50 billion over five years on modernization and chronic-disease prevention and presumes that this will lower costs in the future, but in the meantime it RAISES COSTS at least in the short run on everyone (the $50 billion doesn’t come out of thin air).

--The Pay-Go of his plans - NO, he hasn’t demonstrated that he’s found the revenue for his spending, despite his claims last night. Non-partisan analysts believe that his spending programs will ADD at least $428 billion to the DEFICIT in his first term, and that’s if you accept his non-specific pledge to cut spending in other areas.

--Tax cuts for working class families - Before the commercial aired, he had already begun BACKING AWAY from that idea because of the financial crisis, although Obama didn’t acknowledge it in the ad.

--The “right” to affordable health care - Obama DOES NOT guarantee coverage in any of his plans, at least not for adults.

--Getting out of Iraq - Obama noted that the US spends $10 billion a month in Iraq and talked again about “bringing that war to a close” — but he’s BACKED AWAY from his previous pledges to get out on a strict 16-month timetable, which is as fast as the remaining units can be properly withdrawn.

After several weeks of John McCain’s campaign attacks on Barack Obama’s tax plan and idea of “spreading the wealth around”, the latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds voters trust McCain more than Obama on taxes, 47% to 45%.

Two weeks ago, Obama had a one point-advantage on the issue of taxes and a month ago, he had a three-point edge. The last time McCain had the advantage on this issue was September 14, just before the collapse of Lehman Brothers started the meltdown on Wall Street.

One month ago, Obama was up nine points on this crucial issue. McCain continues to outperform the generic Republican ticket by a longshot, and while Obama leads in six of ten top issues for Americans, Obama led in all 10 last month.

Now that McCain has a resonant message in Joe the Plumber's plight, is finally matching Obama ad-for-ad in battlegrounds, and Biden has just LOWERED the Obama campaign's "wealthy" mark to $150,000, it's a mighty good time for things to be looking up for him.

More on the moving target that is the $250,000 threshold for the Obama campaign's tax hikes. The Wall Street Journal reminds, "Just as Bill Clinton promised a 'middle-class tax cut' in 1992 only to RAISE TAXES on the middle class in 1993—including a first ever tax on Social Security benefits--Mr. Obama will quickly find that his tax-revenue math doesn't add up. Add in the demands on Capitol Hill to spend more and to offset the Alternative Minimum Tax, and our bet is that even $150,000 would soon prove to be a moving tax target. Remember when the AMT was only supposed to hit 21 millionaires? Next year, without relief, it could hit 26 million taxpayers. Tax increases always hit the middle class because that's where the real tax money is."

When Obama/Pelosi/Reid get into budget trouble next year—they will fall back on the Democratic budget plan they passed earlier this year—which would increase taxes on everybody making over 42k per year. Yes, it was a non-binding resolution. But why go on record with a SYMBOLIC vote to raise taxes on most workers, unless you need it as a precedent to use later? “Rich” is whatever the Democrats need it to be to pay for their hundreds of billions in new Socialist proposals—right Barney Frank?

Next Wednesday morning, you will see TV footage from Obama’s coronation event in Chicago’s Grant Park showing hysterical, weeping, cavorting, fighting, swearing Obama Kool-Aid kids who are angry and confused that The Marxist One and his merry band of America-haters, terrorists, racists and felons lost.

Beginning next week, when Americans talk about colossal failures they will mention the movies Ishtar and Heaven's Gate -- and they will mention Obama.

Obama is a bad, bad news for America
