Biden Not Worried About ‘Joe the Plumber’

ABC News’ Matthew Jaffe Reports: Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., said Thursday morning that the Democratic ticket is more worried about "Joe the gas station owner" than Joe the plumber because, unlike Joe Wurzelbacher, the plumber who stole the show at Wednesday's presidential debate, most "Joes" are not making $250,000 a year.

"We're worried about Joe the guy who owns the gas station, the barber, the grocer," the Democratic vice-presidential nominee told Good Morning America's Diane Sawyer. "Ninety-eight percent of the small business people in America make less than $250,000 a year, and they're going to get a real break under our plan. Joe the plumber, whose making over $250,000, is not going to get any more additional tax cuts with us."

The campaign of Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., wasted little time in hitting out at Biden's remarks, calling the Delaware lawmaker "ridiculous."

“Joe Biden’s attempt to bully Joe the Plumber today speaks volumes about how disconnected Barack Obama’s economic policy is to the needs of the middle class Americans," said McCain-Palin spokesman Ben Porritt. "It is astounding that Joe Biden, the self-adulated ‘everyman,’ can't believe that an American making less than $250,000 a year might still be opposed to socialism. Barack Obama wants to raise taxes and redistribute the wealth in this country because he believes government can spend your money better than you can -- it's not just naïve, it's poor judgment.”

Biden also told Sawyer that while he believed McCain had delivered his best debate performance, the GOP candidate's night was marked by how angry he became as the night wore on.

"I think John was better tonight that he has been the last two nights, particularly, in the beginning," Biden said. "But he seemed to get more angry as he went on. And he seemed to focus more in response on attacks. I mean, everything Barack Obama would say, he'd come back with an attack instead of -- not everything -- but -- rather than explain his program. And he would interpret in a way that I found a little unusual."

Bottom line: Joe the plumber makes well under $250,000--just like the vast majority of Americans. Under Obama, he'll get a tax cut. What's the problem?

McCain loves Joe, a registered Republican, who also happens to have a state tax lien filed against him for NOT paying his taxes.

Looks like they vetted Joe about as well as they did Palin.

They spent $700,000,000,000 to bail out the banks. The class war just went nuclear.

So if I read this correctly, our next VP is not concerned about Joe the Plumber who regardless of circumstances is still a tax paying citizen; and is polishing up his golf clubs...gee doesn't that give you confidence in the next administration's ability to handle the job...The way it sounds you would think that we were electing the next student body pres and vice pres...GET SERIOUS ALREADY..IT LOOKS AS IF YOU ARE GOING TO TAKE THIS...

The right wing 'talking points' are ringing HOLLOW. . . . we've had 8 years of giving tax cuts, etc. .to the wealthy, and the results are obvious !!
And what the hell are they talking about 'spreading the wealth' ????
Typical. . .it's OK to bail-out wallstreet; but can't help main street !
Anytime you want to help the middle class, you run into a road block. Corporations; CEO's; Lobbyists; the wealthy. . .can be 'against' the government when convenient. . .but if you get into trouble. . .hey, government's just fine !!! The working man. . . you're on your own !!! It's a pathetic ideology, and the trickle down crap has NOT worked, nor will it. . .Bush; Chency; McCain. .all of them. . .are irresponsible and we have had ENOUGH !!!! Joe six pack may Vote against his economic interest, but there are millions of us who Won't !!!!

OK OK .. I am sick of hearing about "Joe the Plumber". Can we move no now?

Posted by: beck | Oct 16, 2008 4:30:41 PM

Is Joe the Plumber like Floyd the Barber on the Andy Griffith show?

He's a distraction. He'll soon be a puppet for McCain since no one cares about his last puppet from Alaska. What was her name again?

Can someone set a timer and let me know when Joe the Plumber's 15 minutes of fame is done please? I'm tired of him already.

I second that beck.

Posted by: Paige | Oct 16, 2008 4:32:18 PM

$250,000??? is that even middle class according to John McCain?

Posted by: Uncle Sam | Oct 16, 2008 4:33:56 PM

Joe the Plumber doesn't even make $250k and he owes $1200 in back taxes...so whatever Biden said about is irrelevant..

Posted by: indy_voter | Oct 16, 2008 4:36:22 PM

socalvoter;

might want to read up on some more articles...This fella isn't a tax paying citizen, he owes back taxes. So he doesn't pay them now, and still doesn't want to pay them when he actually can...Which is irrelevant anyway since he was speaking in hypotheticals, since he doesnt make 250K. His 15 minutes of fame is done.

O and Joe '08, We're touching up our golf game right now!!!

I find it interesting that we should be concerned about a man who is in a position to consider buying his employer's business. A lot of Americans right now can't afford to even THINK about buying a business! They are only worried about losing their jobs!

Actually he's not a tax paying citizen.

He happens to have a state tax lien filed against him for NOT paying his taxes.

Hahahahahaa

well actually, no. he's a tax-evading citizen.

I don't care about the Plumber but Oh, Joe Biden, you should tell the american people that you took millons of dollars in earmarks for your family and their family business.

Joe Biden called Sarah Palin "dangerous." the media drove the story that McCain rallies were "racist" and "klan meetings." Even Sen. Obama whined about it in last night's debate. But the Secret Service just found the alleged story "unfounded." http://www.timesleader.com/news/breakingnews/Secret_Service_says_Kill_him_allegation_unfounded_.html the media wasted our time, this was clearly a set-up, a fabrication, to smear the McCain/Palin base.

We cannot count on the media to cover us or our opponents fairly and unbiasedly. They will drive whatever story, notwithstanding falsity, to make us look "desperate" and "erratic." We must count on ourselves. From today until election day, I call on us to proudly and boldly share our support for Sen. McCain and Gov. Palin in our daily lives. Tell your friends who you're voting for, and tell them why you're voting for them. Tell your co-workers you don't like the changes Sen. Obama brought to Chicago. Tell strangers when you go shopping or jogging, that Chicago is not a better place because Sen. Obama pushed Bill Ayers's education agenda, and the South Side of Chicago is not a better place because Sen. Obama swelled the ranks of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright's Trinity United Church of Christ with our next generation for 20 years. If we don't stand up for ourselves, no one will. God Bless You and may God continue to Bless America.

I laugh everytime I read some liberal trying to cover for Obama's socialism plan! He got caught with his pants around his ankles and now he is trying to cover himself!

What is it that you liberal's don't understand? First who cares if Joe is not making 250K profit, fact is Obama admitted he wants to redistribute the wealth? That is SOCIALISM!

Second it goes to show how sick you are when anybody says anything negative or does not agree with your stance you try to dig up DIRT! Joe does not deserve to have his private matters made public because he does not agree with Obama!

You liberals are just sick people who will do anything to win this election!

Now ABC is trying to dig up dirt on Joe Plumber. He gets the Palin treatment. Wow, he has tax problems. Guess what-that''s because of the socialist like Obama. Joe Plumber did not ask for a handout or complain.

ABC where is Obama's real birth certificate?

Posted by: geevill | Oct 16, 2008 4:50:50 PM

After Joe, what does McCain have left? Nothing.

Posted by: Kathy | Oct 16, 2008 4:54:23 PM

But beck.. I thought the Obama supporters were caring and responsible people.. you know people who are concerned about the little guy..WHY SHOULD YOU BE SICK OF JOE...HE REPRESENTS WHAT YOU WANT FIXED RIGHT??? THIS IS A MAN WHO HAS ECONOMIC CONCERNS ABOUT HIS FUTURE..WHERE IS YOU COMPASSION..IS THAT NOT WHAT OBAMA IS ABOUT?? Or was it all just talk????? Just as I thought...the next four years will be like the last 2 years on steriods...
