Biden Teaches Political History to Carolina College Crowd
October 27, 2008 1:06 PM
ABC News' Matthew Jaffe Reports: Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., kicked off the last full week of the presidential campaign with a history lesson for students and supporters at East Carolina University, describing how past presidents had faced -- and overcome -- similar attacks to those currently being leveled at Sen. Barack Obama. D-Ill..
“Let me share a little bit of history with you,” the Democratic vice-presidential nominee began on the campus quad in Greenville, NC. “The defenders of the status quo, the defenders of the status quo, have always tried to tear down those who would change our nation for the better.”
“They said Thomas Jefferson wasn’t a real Christian, that was the essence of the campaign against him. Well, does that sound familiar?” Biden asked the crowd of 1500. “Ladies and gentlemen, they said Abraham Lincoln, they said he wanted to take away individual rights. Ladies and gentlemen, they said Franklin Roosevelt would destroy the American system of life. Sound familiar? And ladies and gentlemen, they said that John F. Kennedy was, quote, ‘a dangerous choice in difficult times.’ That’s what they said, they said John F. Kennedy was a dangerous choice in difficult times. Sound familiar?”
“Well, ladies and gentlemen, new ideas and new leaders are often met with new attacks and almost always negative attacks built on lies which are the last resort of those who have nothing new to offer,” noted Biden. “And that’s where we find ourselves.”
Biden said that Obama would follow this long line of past presidents in overcoming the lies and attacks to lead the country to “a better day.”
“Great presidents have always turned dire circumstances into real opportunities,” Biden pointed out. “In a turbulent economy, Barack Obama has demonstrated a steady hand. In a dangerous world, Barack Obama has demonstrated sound judgment. To a nation desperate for a better day, he offers new ideas, new leadership and real hope, ladies and gentlemen!”
Biden’s Monday morning Carolina rally continued his recent emphasis on the Tar Heel state, following three events last Thursday in Charlotte, Winston-Salem, and Raleigh. With Election Day looming just over a week away, Biden bellowed that Obama will be a "great president."
"Look, our problems, our problems are too big and for too long our politics has been too small. Barack Obama knows that we need to bring people together. Remind them, remind them of what we’ve overcome in the past and appeal to their better angels," Biden stated. "He knows that’s the way to unite America. Ladies and gentlemen, it may sound corny on a college campus to say it but it’s real, we are one nation under God, we are indivisible! We are all Americans, all of us! And ladies and gentlemen, that’s why I believe Barack Obama will be a great president of the United States of America!"

Did he mention that from each according to his ability to each according to his need is what Zero wants to help the poor and equalize the wealth?
Posted by: d0 | Oct 27, 2008 1:15:44 PM
What's wrong with spreading wealth around? It sounds fair; after all, did not the Document say all men are born equal?
See, Zero is defending this Document on the basis of his fundamental philosophy of life. He is so Harvard smart, way above us poor, less-educated people who only know guns and god.

I used to hear a lot of praise for George W Bush. I don't hear it anymore.

Beware of what you vote for, you might get it.
Obama is to be feared.
Michelle is to be especially feared.

History shows that the last time you elected someone whom you think he makes you feel good was George W. Bush.
0bama is even more "articulate and clean" who makes lots of feeling-good speeches.

here's a sample of what the type of interview from Florida would look like
directed towards McCain/Palin.
- Sen. McCain, You''ve made statements referring to "100 years of war", are you an imperialist?
- Sen. McCain, due to your years of captivity, how can American''s know you were not brainswashed by the Viet Cong, putting forth a secret agenda to turn the U.S. into a communist state?
- Gov. Palin, with your previous radical associations, how can you ensure the American voters that you do not intend to eventually secede Alaska from the United States and found a Christian Faith based nation there?
- Gov Palin, you''ve made statements looking to extend the power of the Vice Presidency, well beyond that already claimed by VP Cheney, are you a dictator?
- Sen. McCain, with your tax policies and ties to the top tier in business and income earners, do you intend to turn this country into an oligarch or aristocracy?

I love Governor Palin and Senator McCain and think they will do so much positive for this country and the people.
Beware of the left wing liberal media, they can tell no truths.

He also didn't run his own campaign, his campaign was negative, and like his campaign his presidency was run by his handlers.
Does that sound like McCain to you? it does to me.

"If you look at the victories and failures of the civil rights movement and its litigation strategy in the court. I think where it succeeded was to invest formal rights in previously dispossessed people, so that now I would have the right to vote. I would now be able to sit at the lunch counter and order as long as I could pay for it I’d be o.k. But, the Supreme Court never ventured into the issues of redistribution of wealth, and of more basic issues such as political and economic justice in society.” Barack Obama
Why does Barack Obama believe the mission of the Supreme Court is to re-distribute wealth in America? I’m no lawyer, but how does the Supreme Court have any role in deciding such a thing? Listening to these words from Senator Obama, it sounds like he thinks that the Supreme Court should not only make sure that blacks get a right to “sit at the lunch counter,” but should also make sure they get a bigger piece of the economic pie. Isn’t that what people are supposed to do themselves? I grew up poor, got an education, worked hard and bettered myself. And I did it all without the Supreme Court’s help.

Biden puts it in perspective. Nice job. The zealots who listen to Hannity and Limbaugh won't understand but the students in North Carolina get it. Lucky for America our future is on the college campuses across the country, not hunkered down in the basement listening to hot-talk radio.

Same to you.
Stung a little eh?

This is Crazy..
well I think you said it all when you said "I'm no lawyer"...Read the whole quote in context...course you probably won't understand anymore then than you did before.
Posted by: karronna | Oct 27, 2008 1:36:21 PM
Biden gets it. The college kids understand it. The Hannity clones who worship Limbaugh don't have a clue. The clones and ditto heads wouldn't have an original thought unless they heard it first from Hannity or Limbaugh or Fox News.

Yes, John McCain's campaign is a tired cliche. It's only the low-IQ GOP dead-enders who can't see it.
All of the smart conservatives have left the building.

mirror,
how's this for research....
John McCain's nickname with his fellow soldiers at Hanoi was "songbird".
