ABC News' Jennifer Duck reports: They've been great allies through thick and thin--peace then war, financial highs and now financial lows. But Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi literally fell for Bush at an elegant Official Dinner in his honor at the White House Monday night. The Prime Minister seemed to trip over a microphone cable while walking from the podium, easily catching his balance, but the top of the podium ripped right off with him.
The microphone was still attached so the charismatic Berlusconi continued praising President Bush in Italian with the top of the podium still in hand. The 130 guests burst into laughter and the confused translator tried to overpower Berlusconi somewhat unsuccessfully.
"America will have a new President and certainly this new President will be up to his task," Berlusconi said through translation with half of the podium resting in his hand. "And I will cooperate with this new President and I'll do whatever I can to cooperate with him. But I can say that it's going to be very difficult -- to find somebody, another man who is really courageous like George Bush."
With true affection Berlusconi looked at President Bush and ended his speech saying, "I wish you all the best, and I hope you can make all of your dreams come true."
