Ciao to Official Dinners for Bush
October 13, 2008 5:52 PM
ABC News' Jennifer Duck and Ann Compton report: Although Monday night's White House dinner in honor of Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi is not officially labeled a "State Dinner" because the Prime Minister is not the official head of government, it is full of the same frills and fanfare.
Officials say it is the last time President George W. Bush will host a foreign leader with a full arrival ceremony, greeting, and dinner in the State Dining Room.
The dinner has been long-planned but with economic pangs being felt around the world, it could be seen as not the best timing for an extravagant evening at the White House.
However both leaders addressed concerns with the economy today reassuring the world they have confidence in the global economy in the long term.
"America and Italy are working to stabilize global financial markets," Bush said standing alongside Berlusconi.
"These are tough times for our economies. Yet we can be confident that we can work our way through these challenges. And America will continue to work closely with the other nations to coordinate our response to this global financial crisis."
Prime Minister Berlusconi added, "the concerted and common action between the United States and Europe will certainly have chances to make the real economy -- to prevent real economy from being affected by what has happened all over the world in the financial markets."
Bush has hosted only four "official visits" in his presidency according to the White House. The president and First Lady Laura Bush welcomed the Italian prime minister with a 19-gun salute and military officers walking in cadence playing both Italian and American national anthems.
Three other notable leaders have received similar welcomes in the president's second term--Queen Elizabeth II, Pope Benedict XVI, and President John Kufuor of Ghana. However many leaders have attended working visits at Camp David and at the president's ranch in Crawford, Texas.
Around 130 people are expected to attend tonight's dinner and another 100 guests will be invited for champagne and entertainment. Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson will not attend the dinner but his wife Wendy will be there. Other guests include Vice President Cheney along with his daughters Elizabeth, Mary and Mary's partner Heather Poe, Olympic gymnasts Alicia Sacramone and Mary Lou Retton-Kelley, Archbishop Pietro Sabmi, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and her husband, Justice Scalia and Justice Alito, singer Frankie Valli, race car driver Mario Andretti, and Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani and his wife.

I am not sure the facts here were stated correctly. THis would not be labled a state visit because the Italian Prime Minister is not the head of State, the President of Italy has that lable. He IS hhowever head of government.

President Bush is the best president we have had in the last 20 years. So, ABC, and everyone that has anything to say, just keep it to yourselves. That is the least you can do. So do it.

........................................I can't believe you wrote this!!! He isn't even the best president in the last 8 years......LMAO

Clinton handed over all the classified breifings about Osama bin-Laden and his terrorist oganizations to Bush, and he decided to ignore them. So, he is directly responsible for 9/11 and the state of the world since then. I know you neo-cons are so proud of his carnage!

Not only that, Bin Laden had been trying to get the US into Afghanistan for years, which he calls the 'graveyard of empires'.. as the saying goes, fools rush in where wise men fear to tread.. guess who rushed in, with a 'token' force, and then when public opinion started to fade, rushed into Iraq as a distraction.

......slap on the black tie and bring back that smile, George, maybe even sneak in a lil' vino Italiano .
During times like these, drinkin' is better therapy than goin' shoppin'.

and also ..
Quite Frankly, Bush doesn't give a nanny's hoot how a lavish dinner at a time like this is perceived by those wracked by the economic woes ...
Heck in less than 100 days he is going to leave us all to fend for ourselves ...
What a lovely day that will be even to the homeless ...
Hopefully we will be saying goodbye to his policies also in the form of a McCain defeat ...

George Bush is without doubt the biggest ignoramus president we've ever had. He's a buffoon of the highest order and the only "state dinner" he deserves is a sack of lukewarm White Castle sliders left over from a slow weekend. I'd even donate a buck or two to the cause.

I think Bush accelerated the demise of neo conservatism. Obama would not have a chance at the presidency had it not been Bush's total stupidity and hubris. Our school children are overwhelmingly pro-Obama. Conservatism is childless.

Al Qaeda WON. They were out to destroy the US's economy but little did they know Bush/Cheney executed the plan for them FLAWLESSLY !

Wow, God forbid Georgie had to go without for a night. Maybe we should get a drive together to help him out in these tough times!

SHAME, SHAME SHAME ON ALL OF YOU WHO ATTENDED THIS STATE DINNER. I WOULD BE EMBARRASSED TO BE SEEN AT THIS EVENT GIVEN TODAYS ECONOMIC SITUATION, WHY, WHY WOULD YOU EVEN THINK THIS IS ACCEPTABLE? PUT THE VOTING PEOPLE'S MONEY TO BETTER USE. DONATE ALL THE MONEY BEING SPENT SHAMELESSLY TO THE MIDDLECLASS WHO WILL BE EATING BEANS AND WEINERS TONIGHT. HOW ABOUT SHARING THAT MONEY WITH SHELTERS WHERE IT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED AND IMPROVE, WELL MAYBE IMPROVE BUSH'S RATING. HA, HA. HE IS ALREADY IN THE XXXXTER, LET US FLUSH THE TOILET.

Over the weekend, I came across several newspaper stories where over 40% of the contributions to the Obama campaign is under questions. It seems that much of that money has come from foreign sources and rebundled by Obama's workers. This is illegal. Obama is sure not a very honest guy. Foreign money contributions and ACORN fraud--he gonna win any way he can. Shame on him. He is really a very immoral and corrupt man. He has flushed decency and truth down the toliet.

Why does A.B.C.News say that they have a problem with page...instead of saying.."We don't want to hear anymore from you"?

As soon as the dinner Chinette is cleared, remove all of the furniture, drapes, carpeting. Scrub it down, seal it off, and maybe Laura's Giorgio of Beverly Hills odor will be gone by the time Michelle takes over as a very gracious First Lady.

Yes, Janice, there is a Santa Claus.

-- Foreign money contributions and ACORN fraud --
There is no provision about where the money comes from. It is perfectly legal.
As for ACORN, what does that have to do with Obama? ACORN were the ones who reported the bogus registrations in the first place, and have terminated the employees who did it.
And while McCain likes to claim tenuous links to ACORN regarding Obama, he neglects his own.. here is what ACORN has to say about that:
October 13, 2008, Miami, FL - U.S. Senator John McCain's recent attacks on the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) are puzzling given his historic support for the organization and its efforts on behalf of immigrant Americans. As recently as February 20, 2006, Senator McCain was the keynote speaker at an ACORN-sponsored Immigration Rally in Miami, Florida at Miami Dade College – Wolfson Campus.
And here is a link to the press release regarding the above mentioned rally:

Just more smear coming out of the GOP in order to distract from the issues.

No offense to Bush supporters, but I am glad he is gone! Whew, cannot wait to see Barack Obama replace him. Obama is showing leadership, and taking action on foreclosures.

When Obama is being sworn in as President, remember who put him there. Never has a candidate for President been promoted by the media the way Obama has. It's been beyond manipulative ... it's been purposeful, with a clear pattern of bias readily apparent to Hillary supporters in the primaries and now to McCain supporters in the general election campaign. Obama is not qualified to be President and CIC. The media knows this, so what is behind their promotion of him? Sadly, we'll never know until it's too apparent to be contained by them.

shorelinedr...just because many of us sre suffering doen't mean life has to come to a halt. Bush did phenominal job for economy and in very short time. I myself lost all i had and took a while to recoup but i don't wish the same for others and neither should you. Bush was never the problem, really, but his advisors and informers. i blame Cheney more than Mr. Bush, and feel bad that he was scapegoat for many of us. Give him credit for the economy fix, please, and for withstanding all the pushing and shocking by the world. He is only as good as those around him and this man never stopped. He showed courage and strenght and a willingness to do well. Not sure many people would survive under the pressure as he did, so in his last few months, let's give him respect for that. If we were mislead about the war, has it occured to you that he was also mislead. The people I am now concerned with are the people who will go thru what i have and for those people all i can say is they will be ok ounce they accept their unfortunate fate. it took i while to digest the lost when i worked day and night, 2 and 3 jobs at times while attending college to feel as a failure after all. I don't feel that way now, and am ok starting over as i'm always for a challenge. Hope they have a great dinner and hope all countries come together. I love Mr. McCain and hope Obama becomes president some day, but just not right now as we are still devided and race should not be a factor in deciding who becomes president. Mr McCain has the experience and respect we need to get us back on track. I feel good about our futures and wish everyone well, just wish i could take the pain away for those who will go thru a tought time, but it won't last, I promise. Goodnight

Looks like Janice has been living in some sort of alternate reality. honey, if you say Bush is the best president ever, you need to check yourself right back into the looney bin where people like you belong.
