McCain Says We've 'Stopped the Bleeding' on Bailout Bill, Praises Palin's Performance
October 03, 2008 2:27 PM
ABC News' David Wright, Alyssa Litoff, and Bret Hovell report:
At a town hall meeting in Pueblo, Colorado, Republican John McCain lavished praise on his running mate Sarah Palin for her performance in last night's debate.
"How 'bout Sarah Palin last night?" he asked the crowd gathered in a gymnasium at Colorado State University. The crowd whooped and hollered.
"Viva la barracuda," McCain said. "I almost felt a little sorry last night for my old friend Joe Biden,” McCain said, laughing. "She did a magnificent job."
McCain quickly pivoted to the bailout package that made its way through the House of Representatives just as he took the stage here.
"We've stopped the bleeding," he said. "But now we need to reform the way we do business in Washington. "This is the most severe financial crisis we have faced in our lifetime. And there are no easy answers to it," he said.
But a voter later challenged McCain, asking him why he opposes a plan described last night by Sen. Biden that would allow homeowners to refinance their mortgages, lowering principle as well.
"Before we bail out the banks, why don't you help the people?" he asked. "What do you say about that."
McCain responded with boilerplate talking points, blaming the housing crisis on the failure of Democrats to properly oversee the government sponsored enterprises Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
Republicans allege that campaign contributions from Fannie and Freddie executives bought them lax treatment by Democratic lawmakers in control of congress. McCain takes credit for warning of the need for reform 2 years ago.
But, aside from saying that "our challenge is to help Main Street and not Wall Street," McCain did not address the substance of the voter's concern or explain why he opposes the plan Biden outlined.
For the second time in 2 days, McCain signaled that he plans to go on the offensive in next week's Town Hall debate with Barack Obama.
Yesterday in Denver a voter asked him, "When do you plan to take the gloves off?" McCain shot back, "How bout next Tuesday?"
Here in Pueblo, he gave some hint as to the direction of his planned attack: "Tuesday night we're going to have a Town Hall meeting, and we're going to learn a lot about who's going to be a conservative, who's a liberal, who's going to raise your taxes."

McCain and Palins political careers will be over in 32 days...both careers lasted too long.

Old man has definitely lost his bearings! What debate was he watching because there is NO POLL that shows that moron Palin winning the debate....almost EVERY poll shows Biden winning, almost EVERY poll shows the Obama/Biden ticket head, almost EVERY poll shows that Palin is repelling more independent voters than attracting them, EVERY poll shows that people think she is not ready for any office (except for the back office at some local dentists clinic). Guess what McCain? Joe's not going to feel sorry for you when he's in the White House soon and you're stuck high and dry. Joe is NOT going to feel sorry for you when you're SOL after this election had will have lost your credibility, $$$, and years on your life. Palin won't even look at you anymore, let alone Cindy. We know you are NO MAVERICK, as your good friend Joe let us know. You and Palin are a farse. Why dont you crawl back to Faux News, give your pathetic, "unbiased" interviews, and keep telling yourselves that you're winning everything!

These folks like to use the term Joe Six Pack - but that is the demographic they respect the least. ............

What's really starting to grate on me is McCain's repeated lie, at these stump speeches, that he suspended his campaign to rush to Washington to fix the economic crisis.
Anyone who has followed this knows that, on the Wednesday he made this statement, he didn't rush back to Washington. No. He went to CBS in New York for an interview with Katie Couric. (Just ask David Letterman about that.)
After the Couric interview did he fly out to D.C? No, again. He stayed overnight in NYC to give a speech at the Clinton Global Initiative on Thursday morning. This is not campaigning?
Then and only then, did McCain fly to D.C. But, guess what? Obama was there, too — at the request of President Bush.
I think the only thing McCain can take credit for is making an ass out of himself.

McCain: I will veto any pork barrel that comes to my desk.
Supporter: But you just passed the rescue package that includes many pork barrels!
McCain: I know. I am a "real change".
Supporter: I believe you 100%. You are definitely the "real change". You said that "our economy is strong", and now we need to "rescue" it. You said that "no debate until we get the rescue solution", and I saw you debated very well even if no rescue solution yet!. Who dare not to say these are "real changes"?
McCain: Well, glad to see that you really understand me.

Absolutely "Palin" ....interesting name choice by the way :-)
"I won't vote for the bail out plan if any pork is attached"
McCain says one thing and then does only what is politically expedient. That is not leadership, not integrity, not honor -- it is merely wanting to win at all cost.
Well I'm not letting my country be the price for his fierce ambition.

We're thrilled that Sarah did as well as she did. Now they have to keep her! Every time she does an interview another state turns blue. -Pull out of Michigan? -How 'bout Ohio, Pennsylvania and Florida too.

Finally people are seeing the light. Both McCain and Obama, at the end of the day, have sold us out to those they're truly loyal to: wealthy CEOs and the idea that bigger government can solve anything and problems will go away if we just keep throwing money at it. Now, because of them, this bailout will cost an average of $31,000 per taxpayer. $31,000 of YOUR money.
But there's something the Democrats and Republicans don't want you to know about all this, and that's that there is another candidate, Bob Barr, who is the ONLY candidate to oppose the bailout, oppose wasteful spending, and oppose government control. His campaign, like his time in Congress, is built on real principles. In an appeal to your conscience, I would advise all of you to support Bob Barr for president, for the sake of our nation's future.

Because, with Obama and McCain, the lesser of two evils is still evil.

McCain does not know what lies ahead. His bid is finished. things will get worse. and hear is the reason:
1. With choice of Palin McCain shot himself in the foot.
2. By careless talk McCain tells America I am ignorant on that subject. Boy it is all about the economy and that is what will make Sen. Obama win.
3. McCain's attack style especially using Palin is counterproductive.
Nothing will save McCain. It is finsihed

I watched the debate between Governor Palin (5 weeks of national debate experience) versus Senator Biden (35 years of national debate experience).
Obviously, she is a quick study. Just imagine what she will be like after four years as vice president! She has been a Mayor and a Governor. She is more qualified than anyone running.
John McCain showed great judgment in choosing her.
It's too bad the DNC and biased media didn't "select" Biden or Hillary. OBAMA HAS BASED HIS ENTIRE CAMPAIGN ON LIES. HE HAS TOO MANY TIES TO TERRORISTS AND ANTI-AMERICANS. DON'T FORGET "God Damn America" JEREMIAH WRIGHT, PFLEGER, FARRAKHAN, AYERS, REZKO (TO NAME A FEW). BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA IS A DANGER TO OUR COUNTRY. Obama's ties to organizations like "ACORN" caused much of the country's mortgage foreclosure issues. ACORN IS UNDER INVESTIGATION FOR "VOTER FRAUD" IN MANY STATES! Obama is a wolf in sheep's clothing.
I'm voting for the Honorable John McCain in November.
STOP THE DRAMA - NO OBAMA!
GET A BRAIN - VOTE McCAIN!

Yes -if, like Palin, you need to get a brain, -vote McCain. For those of us who already have one:
NO THANKS. We're just not at all afraid of all that conservative fear based baloney.

I don't think we stopped the bleeding at all. We are pumping blood into a body without fixing the holes.
If we really wanted to fix the problem, we would have ended the expansion of the CRA, that was done during the Clinton Administration. We will still continue to make very risky loans to people with bad credit. This will only increase the problem.

Palin is dumb as a fence post and couldn't answer a straight question. How is that effective? McCain may as well pull out of all states except Alaska. With Palins popularity tanking there as well I don't think he can even count on that state. Maybe Arizona? From my time there I don't recall brain dead as a standard for the residents so that may be out as well. Obama/Biden never looked better.

McCain is no maverick. Just an old, tired, wacked-out simpleton whose POW experience transformed him into a psycho. Palin is another freak, in her own right, with the phony folksy schtick and the pathetic wink - go back to Alaska where that junk works. She insults me and most women of intelligence and substance. These two make claims to joe-six packs and hockey moms - what a crock; their policies favor the wealthy not the middle class. There will be plenty of bleeding if McCain and the Cheney-Bush agenda are re-elected. Plenty of bloodshed in Iraq, Iran, Russia and North Korea... the blood of our young people fighting and dying in the unnecessary wars of John McCain and Bush-Cheney. Got WAR?
Posted by: Steve from Danville | Oct 3, 2008 8:37:03 PM
John McCain's policies are only good for the people who make caskets and bombs. If you love peace and prosperity for the middle class, then dump the Republicans this year. Send the war-mongers a message.
Posted by: Steve from Danville | Oct 3, 2008 8:38:25 PM
Leave it the war-monger John McCain to put a bloody context into a simple sentence about the economy. Why? Because his militaristic world view is a bloody mess for the young people who are fighting and dying in his unnecessary war in Iraq.

"McCain/Palin -government of the people, by the people, for the people"
LOL a communist slogan to defend the GOP ticket....
BTW since when do "the people" own 7 houses and 13 cars?
