Obama Basks in the Glow of Powell Endorsement
October 19, 2008 3:31 PM
ABC News' John Berman, Sunlen Miller and Ursula Fahy Report: Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., wasted no time basking in the glow of his latest big-name supporter.
"Today, I am beyond honored and deeply humbled to have the support of General Colin Powell," he said before a crowd of 10 thousand in Fayetteville, NC.
Fayetteville sits in the shadow of Fort Bragg, home to the 82nd Airborne, and is a town with deep military roots. So it is no surprise, Obama added, "General Powell has defended this nation bravely, and he has embodied our highest ideals through his long and distinguished public service."
Obama worked to incorporate Powell into the themes of his stump speech, "he knows, as we do, that this is a moment where we all need to come together as one nation – young and old, rich and poor, black and white, Republican and Democrat," said Obama. And he invoked Powell’s name when defending himself against some of the attacks coming lately from the McCain campaign, "He reminded us that at this defining moment, we don't have the luxury of relying on the same political games the same political tactics that are used every election to divide us from one another and make us afraid of one another."
Specifically, Obama tried to parry the new charge from the McCain team, that his tax plan amounts to socialism. "Socialism!" scoffed Obama to a booing crowd, "it's kind of hard to figure how Warren Buffet endorsed me. Colin Powell endorses me and John McCain thinks I’m passing socialism."
While Obama largely stuck to his stump speech, he did pounce on some recent gaffe by the McCain campaign. Yesterday, a McCain surrogate suggested Northern Virginia is not "Real Virginia," and Governor Sarah Plain has commented on visiting pro-America parts of the country. Today Obama said, "There are no real or fake parts of this country. We are not separated by the pro-America and anti-America parts of this nation – we all love this country, no matter where we live or where we come from."
Though it should be added, not everyone loves him. As he visited Cape Fear BBQ and Chicken, he was met by a shouting woman, 54 year-old Diane Fanning, who yelled, "Socialist! Socialist! Socialist! Ger out of here!"

It was expected for some time now, even by places like faux news.
Powell is correct in his assessment, and has done what is best for America, not his party. I hope more americans follow his lead.

Some republicans and especially McCain`s supporters do not know what is socialism. They need to go back to school.
Obama is the better candidate, has better judgment and the candidate with steady hand.
Powell knows how republicans have ruined America and there`s no way he would have endorsed McCain. Obama is the smarter candidate.

I like the reasons why Powell has Endorsed Obama and is gonna vote for him, And the way he explained his choice is the way alot of americans are feeling. Thank you Mr Powell for pointing out the truths in this Election congrats Barack!

Everybody be sure to watch Hannitys America tonight Sunday on FOX.
Part 2 of Obamas ties to radicalism, Black Panthers, Farrakahans Nation of Islam, Money trail from HAMAS PLO. etc. Part 1 was very well done, well investigated, and completely verifiable. Anybody who would support Obama after seeing Part 1 is no doubt an enemy to America.
Thank to FOX the only media outlet that exposes the true Obama,, or is it Soetero?

Powell is putting America first and endorsing Obama. I bet you also think Kerry, Buffet, Clinton and Chuck Hage, a republican all endorsed Obama because he is white. Time for you to stop listening to fox news.
Obama = good judgment.
McCain = erratic and lacks the judgment to lead.

Is Hannity going to talk about Palin palling around Alaska separatists? How about Palin`s husband being a registered member of the Alaska separatists for 7 years?
This is scary. I dont want Palin being my VP.

Powell helped to ruin America,
he can go to hell along with OBUCKY

What Powell did today was slap the face of every American that believed the batch of lies he sold to the UN and young American soldiers.
I sincerely hope this was about race, if not the man is a total hypocrite. To ask so many to sacrifice their lives and endorse someone that failed to support them and who has disparaged their mission and their efforts is a total betrayal. Powell has just exposed himself as a military fraud.

Kenny: Chuck Hagel never endorsed BHO. His wife did. Get your facts straight.
Posted by: JULIE | Oct 19, 2008 4:02:44 PM
Seriously, this could hurt Obama as white America gets this endorsement from Powell....so now Obama has 99.1% of the black vote and not just 99%.
This doesn't do anything with Independent white voters, trust me.
The kids and blacks just use it to reinforce their choice already, but DOES NOT MOVE UNDECIDEDS.
HILLARY SUPPORTER FOR McCAIN.
McCAIN has four Ex Secretaries of Sate endorsing him.

Obama has outclassed McCain on the economy, judgment, leadership, campaigning and won all the 3 debates. Collin powel knows Obama will be a better commander in chief.

It would be interesting to find out what Diane Fanning thinks constitutes being a socialist, and exactly why is that so terrible that how this caused her rude behavior.
Obama thinks that people in the tax bracket should be brought back to 39% (where it was before Bush). McCain wants it to be 36%.
Where exactly is the line? Is 38.9% A-OK, but 39% socialist?
And another thing Fanning could explain to me: Does she send her socialist social security check back to the government every month?
Does she refuse medical checkups or treatment that are paid by medicare?
How about unemployment insurance? Shouldn't we get rid of that? And federal bank deposit insurance.
Aren't they socialist programs?
Education for all children? That is definitely socialist, don't you think?

Anybody that would even watch those hacks needs professional help. The only enemies of America I see are people like you that have such small minds that you believe anything you are told.
Your kind of hatred is the cancer that has been killing this country. We as Democrats are finally standing up and saying "NO MORE".

Including McCain who supported their policies 90% of the time. It would be very stupid to want to give McCain the Republicans another 4 years.
Obama is the only smart choice and you know that.
