Obama Visits Ailing Grandmother
October 24, 2008 5:24 PM
ABC News’ Sunlen Miller Reports: After spending about two hours with his ill grandmother in her apartment this morning, Sen. Barack Obama , D-Ill., took a short walk alone in the Makiki neighborhood of Honolulu outside his grandmother, Madelyn Dunham’s, apartment.
The somber looking presidential candidate strolled by himself slowly along “Young” street – wearing a black polo shirt tucked into his jeans, brown flip flops, sunglasses, and a blackberry on his hip. His hands were in his pockets as he walked along the street lined with modest apartment buildings and homes.
The walk in the neighborhood was one familiar to Senator Obama – he grew up in the apartment building where his grandmother still lives today, and attended school at Punahou just a few blocks away. Obama has written in his books about the walks he and his grandfather would take in that very neighborhood. Sen. Obama’s grandfather, Stanley Dunham, passed in 1992.
Obama took a 36 hour break from the campaign trail to visit his ailing grandmother who is suffering from a broken hip and osteoporosis. After spending most of the day visiting with her inside her apartment today, he will return to the campaign trail on Saturday morning for an event in Reno, NV.

you know, remarks like barackhusseinobama, is exactly why the World is never at peace. How one race can think they are better than another. Hatred will never bring anything but bad results. Time for all people and nations to work together to bring our world out of a recession. Time to work together for improvements in healthcare and new developments in medicine. People like this person does nothing for our World.

Obviously, Senator Obama is a reflective, serious, caring person who will have a steady hand dealing with the many issues facing our country and the world. Too bad the same cannot be said of McSame and Falin.

You must be a very sick individual to say such a thing BHO. Its people like you that make this world a sometimes ugly place.
Regardless of your politics, one needs to show compassion for fellow human beings going through difficult times.
Senator Obama did the right thing in going to see his grandman...it proves even further that he is a man of great character. Our prayers are with him during this difficult time

his grandmama..........
Looking for more important news!!!!!!!

I think that calling his grandmother "a typical white woman" about covers the phrase "throwing her under the bus". After all, that's how we all describe our relatives, right - by color?? He says the prez race isnt about 'race' but he injects it into his talk right and left. He's got issues with it, period.

Our prayers and thoughts are with the Senator, his Grandma and his family.
May God see you all through this tough
time.
As for the idiot post above...Grow up!,
partisian hack! Sheesh, are McCain supporters always so ignorant...or just
sometimes!?

This clearly shows how caring and wonderful Senator Obama is. I was brought up by my grandmother too. She is gone now. She died at the age of 95 yrs.
I missed her though. I am praying for her.

How ironic that he has a lawsuit recently filed against him about his birth certificate and now he has to make a trip during the last 2 weeks of the campaign to see his sick grandma... and to make it look even more legitimate, he says 'she might not make it through Nov 4th'. He is covering his tracks. Or trying to.

whoowee
the people on here...sound no better than...
well Mccain himself would probably pop you in the mouth for some of these comments.
remember "character is what you are when no one is in the room"
when no one is in the room some of these people must disgust themselves.

Why do you put stories like this on the blog? This should be a short editorial with no underlying message. You should know that the creeps will come out and spout there tasteless comments that have nothing to do with this particular story. I don't know which is more disappointing, your purpose in telling the story, or the nuts on the blog. His grandmother, the woman who helped raise him, is dying. Show some respect and tact.

Sick, thats all of you with negativity. Thats why the country is going to the toilet, with people with the likes of yourselves who lack humanity. Seriously.

Why Obama is fighting a lawsuit that is questioning if he is a US citizen? And we want to know why the DNC is stepping in to help fight it. And I question why the haste to go to Hawaii when his grandmother was supposedly released from the hospital last week? Maybe it's all coincidental... but back to the first question. Why Obama is fighting a lawsuit that is questioning if he is a US citizen? It makes no sense.
candidate, they have no character. That makes no sense either. This is a free country.
