Obama's Bold Move

Share

October 11, 2008 10:30 AM

ABC News' John Berman, Sunlen Miller, and Ursula Fahy report: Barack Obama has staked out a brave, perhaps even risky position on a subject dear to the hearts of millions of voters in key swing states.  It isn't taxes, or health care, or entitlements this time.  No, Obama has a taken a stance on the baseball playoffs.

Standing in Philadelphia, in front of thousands of residents of Philadelphia, he went out on a limb. "I am a White Sox fan," he said, "but since the White Sox are out of it, I'll root for the Phillies now."  So there you have it, Obama is now pulling for the Phillies.  Write it in stone. Hold him to it.  Sure, there is a lot to like in the Phillies.  Lefty Jamie Moyer, for instance, pitching into his late 40's, is defying the limits of age (take notice John McCain). The Phillies have nice uniforms and a nice stadium too.  There is a lot to like, but is that really what Obama likes?  Could it be that the Phillies are from Philadelphia which is in Pennsylvania, which is a battleground state?   And does it help that they are playing the Dodgers from Los Angeles which is in California, which is a safe Democratic state?  Who really  needs the Dodgers anyway?

Will Obama stick to this position when he campaigns in Florida?  After all, the Tampa Bay Rays are in the playoffs, and are located smack in the middle of key swing territory in the Sunshine State. Will Obama be brave enough to tell Rays fans (all 6 of them) that he is rooting for the Phillies?  Or will he try to claim dual allegiance to a National League Team (the Phillies) and an American League team (the Rays)? And if he does that, what about the millions of truly moral, excellent, and just fans of the Boston Red Sox? Massachusetts is no swing state, but Red Sox Nation knows no borders, and there are thousands of rabid fans in New Hampshire, a key battleground state.

Has Obama boxed himself into a corner?  Or will this be just another case of a politician saying one thing and doing another? No wonder so many people are cynical about politics.

If Obama went to each city who still has a team in the playoffs and said, "I'm rooting for your team!" Who would care?

McCain would still try to use it in an ad I bet.

McCain will do anything at this point.

You have got to be kidding right?....Is this the best you could come up with as far as President Obama painting himself into a corner?.......UNBELEIVABLE....

What would happen if neither team won? then what?

BUZZARDS KORNER!!

I'm surprised that McCain has not tried to link Obama to the 1919 World Series scandal due to Obama admitting he's a White Sox fan.

I wouldn't put it past McCain to try that, he's sunk so low.

Obama doesn't need Florida. He needs Pennsylvania.

That's a good point. The White Sox did something bad a few decades ago, and Obama supports them today. That would be a clear case of guilt-by-association, as the Republicans see it.

just because someone is for mccain doesn't mean they deslike obama. everyone knows obama is very pleasent and knowledgeable. i just don't think the whole country is ready for obama YET, but have faith he will be president some day when the world is safer and people will then be very ready for him. if obama wins the country may still be devided, but if he hold on just a little longer/ 4 more years example he would be the best and i have no doubt's about that, just not sure right now is his time. if indeed he gets elected i wish him the best. mccain now has the experience and would be given 4 years to fix the problems, obama would get more experience and acceptance by all and than we would have to fear so much when it did happen as we would be used to him by then. obama could still play a huge role as ambassador, or take rice's job. he would be interacting with world leaders and wow, he then would be amazing, but right now, i'm just not ready to support obama, but would love to see him as president in near future.

More Obama Corruption George Steph and ABC won't report:

Obama fundraiser, convicted of fraud, spills beans

i don't think it's clever to say obama is ahead in polls as many people don't have internet access and many others just don't participate until the day to vote. if obama loses after all this nonsense about polls the country will question voter fraud, etc, etc, and this is dangerous, i think. let the people decide when it's time, for the sake of keeping things peacefull. kerry was ahead in polls in 04, yet bush won. you would think the media learned then that polls aren't accurate. i would like to see mccain as president for 4 years, obama as secretary of state, and in 4 years obama would win hands down, and at a safer time. what's the rush. she is still young and country, unfortunatly is still too devided. timing is everything and as much as obama wants to win, the would be better off in a few years. love the guy, just wish him the best and the best, my opinion, is to play safe for the country 1st, and i bet he would be amazing when the time came for him to lead ALL people.

This is not nearly as bad as mccain when he was in PA. While speaking to a Pittsburgh crowd. He said he used the names of the famous Steelers Defensive line of the 1970's while being interrogated, too bad these guys weren't even playing when mccain was being interrogated. He is either going senile or he was trying to pull one over on the Pittsburgh crowd, either way this is BAD news for mccain. You can check out the article by going into google and typing "mccain steelers" and picking the first link.

hummingbird:

why isn't ABC reporting that Obama has an 11 point lead in the polls over McCain.....? ABC still got it at 50-46 Obama.....Instead, it should read 52-41 Obama......right, bud?

PS. Why don't you go pay Tony R. a visit since you seem to care so much....,Okay?

Switch Hitter or Hitler? "Du bist nichts; dein Volk ist alles." (You are nothing; you're people is everything.") "Gemeinnutz geht vor Eigennutz." ("The common good comes before the private good.")
No, more of the same...

Obama/Biden vs McCain/Palin, what if things were switched around?.....think about it.

Would the country's collective point of view be different?

Ponder the following:

What if the Obamas had paraded five children across the stage, including
a three month old infant and an unwed, pregnant teenage daughter?

What if John McCain was a former president of the Harvard Law Review?
What if Barack Obama finished fifth from the bottom of his graduating class?

What if McCain had only married once, and Obama was a divorcee?

What if Obama was the candidate who left his first wife after a severe
disfiguring car accident, when she no longer measured up to his standards?

What if Obama had met his second wife in a bar and had a long affair while
he was still married?

What if Michelle Obama was the wife who not only became addicted to pain
killers but also acquired them illegally through her charitable organization?

What if Cindy McCain graduated from Harvard?

What if Obama had been a member of the Keating Five?
(The Keating Five were five United States Se nators accused of corruption
in 1989, igniting a major political scandal as part of the larger Savings
and Loan crisis of the late 1980s and early 1990s.)

What if McCain was a charismatic, eloquent speaker?
What if Obama couldn't read from a teleprompter?

What if Obama was the one who had military experience that included
disc ipline problems and a record of crashing seven planes?

What if Obama was the one who was known to display publicly, on many
occasions, a serious anger management problem?

What if Michelle Obama's family had made their money from beer distribution?

What if the Obamas had adopted a white child?

You could easily add to this list. If these questions reflected reality,
do you really believe the election numbers would b e as close as they are?

This is what racism does. It covers up, rationalizes and minimizes
positive qua lities in one candidate and emphasizes negative qualities in
another when there is a color difference.

Educational Background:

David Plouffe, Obama's campaign manager, is from PA and is a big Phillies fan. That's why Obama's behind the Phillies, as he explained in a radio interview the other day.

Hell, if I were a candidate and my manager were running as great a campaign as Plouffe has been, I'd support his team too.

Florida a swing state?

Florida will go to Barack Obama and Joe Biden.

Been down to Florida lately?

The economy is great for people who build "House For Sale" yard signs.

Bad economies lead to desperate people. Desperate people use drugs/alcohol and commit crimes.

Think Floridians want to take a chance with another republican in office.

Vote for Barack Obama and Joe Biden for change.

Again Obama at it. He would say anything to win. If phillies looses then he will switch to who ever wins, as long as he gets a few voters voting for him. He cannot be trusted, i believe his ambition will lead this country to the worst years to come, even worse than Bush years.

Obama and the Phillies. Both will be champions!

Was McC really 894 out of 899?

Was guessing there were maybe 20 persons in the class and he finished 15th which wouldn't be all that bad.

894 out 899?

Holy Smokes.

Googled it. Yep it's true.

"McCain struggled in naval academy, finishing 894th out of 899 students, and was rejected by the U.S. National War College until his family intervened with the Secretary of the Navy."
