Palin Fears Media Threaten Her First Amendment Rights

ABC News' Steven Portnoy reports: In a conservative radio interview that aired in Washington, D.C. Friday morning, Republican vice presidential nominee Gov. Sarah Palin said she fears her First Amendment rights may be threatened by "attacks" from reporters who suggest she is engaging in a negative campaign against Barack Obama.

Palin told WMAL-AM that her criticism of Obama's associations, like those with 1960s radical Bill Ayers and the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, should not be considered negative attacks.  Rather, for reporters or columnists to suggest that it is going negative may constitute an attack that threatens a candidate's free speech rights under the Constitution, Palin said.

"If [the media] convince enough voters that that is negative campaigning, for me to call Barack Obama out on his associations," Palin told host Chris Plante, "then I don't know what the future of our country would be in terms of First Amendment rights and our ability to ask questions without fear of attacks by the mainstream media."

However she feels about the way her story has been told in the press, Palin told WMAL she is not discouraged.

"It's sort of perplexing to me, because I'm a practical person and plainspoken also, but just cutting to the chase and calling things like I see them, just like most Americans.  But this has not left a bitter taste in my mouth, the bitter shots taken by the mainstream media and by some of the elitism there in Washington," Palin said.

"What this has left me with is a very energized and positive feeling about America, because there are enough Americans who are desiring the positive change that John McCain's gonna usher in."

Plante then suggested that in her next sit-down interview, Palin should tap the reporter on the knee and ask, "So who you votin' for?"

Palin laughed and said, "Yeah, maybe that just would say it all."

"I'm gonna try that," she said.

How pathetic.. she screams she has first amendment rights and slams the media for their exercise of the same. what a hypocrite! How about this Sarah, you are a hypocrite, you cannot address issues so you run attacks against your opponent. Yes, they are negative. Yes, they are mostly lies. Yes, they are pathetic and only go to prove that you don't give a rats behind about this country, cannot defend your own parties position, and can simply perform scripted character attacks. Care to attack my first amendment rights to call you what you are? Go right ahead.. and I hope you have a job when you get back to Alaska in November.. at least you will be well dressed.

Reddog,

You need to do some research/reading. Palin is the most thinly vetted candidate in history. She doesn't answer questions, she just says dumb things. We don't need another moron in the Oval office.

I feel Ashley Todds rights has been violated.

Hey, if you cant go psycho and carve a "B" in your own face, call the cops and falsely accuse a supporter of your political opponent... then frankly this country isnt what it used to be.

I want all McCain/Palin supporters to join me in a nationwide protest by carving a "B" in your own face. That'll show 'em!

Sarah Palin needs to have her background checked thoroughly herself, Why on earth would we want to check out Ayers,Wright or any of them, they are not running for an office She is, and with someone who has had 26 yrs to make a difference in washinton dc

She is a total whack job who goes off half-cocked at all times. She's talking about how crazy it is that democrats want to reduce defence spending, when mccain himself says he will cut defence spending. She is never on the same page as mccain. She mocks science (as well as mccain) at every turn, when they have no idea what they're talking about. I'd feel a little safer with someone who actually thinks instead of the knee-jerk blather coming out of the mccain/palin (or is it palin/mccain) camp.

Hello... Obama's medical files were released, so were Bidens', and McCain's... the question is: What is Squeaky Palin hiding???

Palin complains about everything. So she is female - she knew this going in to the campaign, so get over it, Squeaky!

Hannity will be very happy because that's the only knee Palin will keep tapping.

Richard Zing: That is wholly inappropriate and adds nothing to the discussion. Evan is right - I hope you get hit by a bus too.

Dumb by whos standards yours or the medias Can you not think for yourself. It is okay too Obama wont shut down critics completley until he is elected.

She has made it more evident she is not prepared to assume the post of V.P.
Its unfortunate that she is the 1st female Republican to be on the V.p. ticket when there are so many qualified women McCain could have chosen. That showed very poor judgement on his part!

There you go, another look into the mind of a far far right neo-con, she with the power would seek to destroy freedom of the press. Neo-cons always seek the dark to do their dirty work.

What a dumb woman!! I bet John McCain cringes every time this woman opens her mouth. Read this again: "It's sort of perplexing to me, because I'm a practical person and plainspoken also, but just cutting to the chase and calling things like I see them, just like most Americans." It started out being a complete sentence, and then she wouldn't shut up and it ended up being not a complete sentence. How does one do that?!!!

Posted by: hang | Oct 31, 2008 11:54:07 AM

The woman is a complete joke...not to mention dumb as hell.

If you have any doubt what phony, hypocrisy is, you simply just look at 0bama.

On one hand, he lectures his subsidiaries selfishness, charity, contribution to the common good of the society.

On the other hand, he panders his blind followers by bribery, cash giveaways, $1000 if you vote for him.

He promises to take care of you, giving you opportunities to get into the middle class; yet, he leaves his own brother in poverty at $1 per month in his homeland, his aunt on the streets of Boston.

Mr. Bush answers the call of a Higher Father and you know what he has done in the past 8 years.

Mr. 0bama has his own Higher Father, and he is Karl Marx.
