Palin Guarantees Win in Pennsylvania
October 23, 2008 10:11 PM
ABC News' Imtiyaz Delawala reports: Near the hometown of Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Namath, Republican vice presidential nominee Gov. Sarah Palin guaranteed a come-from-behind victory for the McCain-Palin ticket in Pennsylvania.
“This morning we were in Ohio, we were in the home of Joe the Plumber,” Palin said to a crowd of supporters packed onto the football field of Beaver Area High School near Pittsburgh, Pa., this evening. “And now, we are here in Beaver County, Pa., home of Joe the Quarterback.”
Palin was referring to former New York Jets quarterback Joe Namath, who was born and raised in nearby Beaver Falls, and led the underdog Jets to an upset win in Super Bowl III over the heavily favored Baltimore Colts, after Namath had guaranteed a win three days before the game.
“Now, Joe Namath is probably a little bit before your time,” Palin said to the high school students in the crowd. “But do you remember, though, in the biggest game of his life, all the experts had Joe Namath and the Jets written off to defeat? They were up against the elite team that had all the money, and they were held in awe by the media. And Broadway Joe replied, 'we’re gonna win the game, I guarantee it.' And they won.
“And I hope Joe won’t mind if I paraphrase him some in this state, his home state, Pennsylvania, with your help, we’re going to win this state. I guarantee it,” Palin said to wild applause.
Like the Jets in Super Bowl III, the McCain-Palin ticket faces an uphill battle in the Keystone State, which has been won by the Democratic ticket in the last four presidential elections. The latest state polls show the Obama-Biden ticket ahead by at least 10 points with less than two weeks to go before Election Day.
At the western Pennsylvania rally, Palin continued the Republican ticket’s use of Ohio plumber Joe Wurzelbacher’s encounter with Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., to attempt to paint the Democratic presidential nominee’s tax policies as a radical plan to redistribute wealth. A few supporters in the crowd shouted “socialism” during Palin’s remarks, while another man yelled out “Obama’s a socialist!” above the crowd.
“He’s hiding his real agenda of redistributing your hard-earned money,” Palin said to boos. “So I know that we have other Joe the Plumbers in the house, in this audience today, and it doesn’t sound like many of you are gonna be supporting ‘Barack the Wealth-Spreader’ in this election.”
As she had done in Ohio earlier in the day, Palin asked the crowd to “hire” the McCain-Palin ticket on Nov. 4.
“We will never forget that we’re accountable to the people who hired us. We will be there to work for you, the good people of America. So, Pennsylvania, will you hire us, will you send us to Washington to shake things up and clean things up?” Palin asked, prompting cheers and applause, and chants of “Sarah! Sarah! Sarah!” from the crowd.
“Well, good, it’s a deal. We’ll take the job,” Palin added after the applause died down.

It's all about showmanship now. Palin has launched her own 2012 presidential effort and is simply turning her back on McCain.

I think that Palin is just preparing for 2012.
Rendell will make sure that Pennsylvania will stay blue.

And, right on cue, here come the Palin-haters in 3 ... 2 ... 1 ....
Go, Sarah, Go!

I agree with Matt - she's all about Palin 2012

Palin knows that she and McCain want to continue following the republican agenda of redistrubuting the wealth of the Joe six packs and Joe the plumber to the wealthiest of Americans and to Iraq, yet she lies to these people. What a disgrace.

If McCain loses, the blame is already being laid at her feet. She may see it coming and will try some damage control, but realistically she'll be finished. A different wing of the GOP will be taking over next time if McCain loses.

Bizarre comment. I wish they would stop trying to polarize the country, but I guess that's what desperation does.

I always said she sounded like she was running for the top spot instead of the second spot. I am from PA. so she is wrong when it comes to the county I live in. If Mcbush wins in PA there are a lot more rich people here than I thought there were because I know My pocket book isn't fat enough to vote republican.

Right- good insight there, Matt. Because of all the other failed VP candidates on losing tickets that came back and won the Oval office in the last couple of decades..... like... for example..... ???

"we will be there to work for you"
does she mean Todd and the kids too? Afterall, the VP's salary will not come close to covering the lifestyle that Sarah (of the people) seems to love.
She better hope they win because I have a feeling she may be impeached if she loses and goes back to Alaska.

The "Joe" routine is so jaded. The American people are tired of political drama and just want solid plans for America's future.

What I don't get is how Palin claims she is pro America when her Husbands club want's Alaska to become it's own country because they have their own oil. Here is the kicker. Palin took 300 million for that bridge to nowhere but then when they canceled the project instead of her returning our tax payer dollars she kept all of it and used it for other pet projects. Remember they claim they want to be separate but they welcome our tax dollars. Here's the rub, the oil they pump out of the ground they divy up the profits and give each Alaskan a piece of the profit. Not all Americans only Alaskans because it is their oil profits. What happened to "one America" it sounds like one America plus Alaska we got ours go get yours somewhere else. The reason they can pay Alaskans so much in dividends is because they sell most of that oil to China. Think about this. If this isn't socialism I don't know what is. What is Sarah Palins hidden agenda? If she was President she
would move the nations capitol to Ancorige Alaska. Both her and McCain think Washington is a bad pocket of America.

yeah, go, Sarah, go.. as in go home and shoot a moose or something.

On Nov. 5th, Palin will disappear back into obscurity that she came from, let the people of Alaska deal with their joke.

There will be no 2012 for Palin.Republicans will see running in racism is a bridge to nowhere.
