Palin Pushes Focus on Solving Dependence on Foreign Oil in Energy Speech
October 29, 2008 8:10 AM
ABC News' Imtiyaz Delawala Reports: In her second policy address in a week, Republican vice presidential nominee Gov. Sarah Palin will deliver a speech this morning in Toledo, OH on energy security, pushing the nation to stay focused on solving the country's dependence on foreign oil despite the recent drop in oil prices.
While the speech will not offer any new policy proposals, the Palin campaign says the speech will seek to frame the issue in the context of Palin's experience on energy issues in Alaska, where she served on the state's Oil and Gas Conservation Commission before becoming Governor. As Alaska's Governor, Palin has also secured agreement on the construction of a $40 billion pipeline system to eventually transport natural gas from Alaska's northern slope to the continental United States.
"What's new is the framing of the issue in the context of her experience, the choices versus Obama, and the need to act despite currently lower gas prices," a campaign spokesperson said. "She will also frame the choice between McCain's "yeses" to new energy versus Obama's many "no's," as well as the choice between acting boldly or being lulled into a false sense of security by current and temporary declines in energy prices."
Palin previewed the speech to the Wall Street Journal last night, saying she is eager to discuss the issue in more detail.
"There's meat to this, there is substance to this," Palin told the Wall Street Journal. "Energy policy, transformation of government and helping our children with special needs, those things that we have 15 minutes to talk about in a rally. It is important to talk about them in, in a manner with much substance."
Palin regularly discusses energy policy on the campaign trail, promoting what the McCain campaign calls its "all-of-the-above" approach to finding new domestic sources of energy. Palin alluded to her planned energy speech in her final rally at Penn State last night.
"We have got to get our country firmly on a path towards energy independence for national security reasons. And this is so important," Palin said, as the crowd began chanting "drill, baby, drill. "I'm gonna talk more about this tomorrow in more detail, because I think our opponents want to turn the page on this one and not talk about -- they say no to the domestic solutions that have been proposed to get us firmly on that path towards energy independence."
Palin will deliver the speech at Xunlight Corporation, a technology start-up spun off from the University of Toledo, that according to its website "engages in the development, manufacture, and marketing of photovoltaic modules that convert sunlight into electricity." Palin will take a tour of the company before her speech.

I wonder if anyone took the time to see how much stock she owns in the oil companies in alaska, After all it is for her advantage to drill baby drill. There are other sources of energy than oil namely wind, solar coal the list goes on and on but then none of these sources are in alaska.

I love that Palin will talk about security issues, while under her watch the number of meth labs in Wasilla grew from 9 to 42! Where was she? At the library trying to ban books.

PALIN PRAISED Obama's energy plan before she was named McCain's pick for VP. As late as August 4, 2008, the press release was on the governor's own state web site!
Just google 'palin praised obama' and read the nbc 'first read' report.
Here is an excerpt:
"Earlier this month, Gov. Palin praised parts of Obama's energy plan. The link to the press release was not working as of 12:30 p.m. ET. But Google saves everything.
Palin Pleased with Obama's Energy Plan
Includes Alaska's Natural Gas Reserves Print Now Printer Friendly
No. 08-135
August 4, 2008, Fairbanks, Alaska - Governor Sarah Palin today responded to the energy plan put forward by the presumptive Democratic nominee for President, Illinois Senator Barack Obama.
"I am pleased to see Senator Obama acknowledge the huge potential Alaska's natural gas reserves represent in terms of clean energy and sound jobs," Governor Palin said. "The steps taken by the Alaska State Legislature this past week demonstrate that we are ready, willing and able to supply the energy our nation needs."
In a speech given in Lansing, Michigan, Senator Obama called for the completion of the Alaska natural gas pipeline, stating, "Over the next five years, we should also lease more of the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska for oil and gas production. And we should also tap more of our substantial natural gas reserves and work with the Canadian government to finally build the Alaska natural gas pipeline, delivering clean natural gas and creating good jobs in the process."
Governor Palin also acknowledged the Senator's proposal to offer $1,000 rebates to those struggling with the high cost of energy.
"We in Alaska feel that crunch and are taking steps to address it right here at home," Governor Palin said. "This is a tool that must be on the table to buy us time until our long-term energy plans can be put into place. We have already enjoyed the support of Alaska Senator Ted Stevens, and it is gratifying to see Senator Obama get on board."
The Governor did question the means to pay for Obama's proposed rebate - a windfall profits tax on oil companies. In Alaska, the state's resource valuation system, ACES, provides strong incentives for companies to re-invest their profits in new production.
"Windfall profits taxes alone prevent additional investment in domestic production. Without new supplies from American reserves, our dependency and addiction to foreign sources of oil will continue," Governor Palin said

fossil fuels are destroying our planet---and this fool in her quest for wealth would destroy alaska----and for what a couple years of oil-----sorry but bio fuels are the answer and they seem to be getting little attention again.we are capable of producing electricity without oil and oil accounrs for about 6%.
i still cannot understand who is stopping bio-diesel--germany will produce a car next year that gets 120 mpg. THE BIG OIL AND THE CORRUPTION CONNECTED WITH IT MUST END AND END SOON.
PALIN HAS NO INTEREST OTHER THAN MONEY--AND ONE OF THESE DAYS THE IRS WILL INVESTIGATE HER---

If you compare Sarah Palin's praise for Barack Obama's energy program (before she was named John McCain's running mate) to what she says today, I think you will come to two conclusions:
1. Barack Obama has a grasp of the energy issues that even Republicans can praise.
2. Sarah Palin, queen of pork, is also the princess of lies. She knows Obama is not a socialist, yet she repeats that lie.
She knows that she did everything in her power to bring federal pork to Alaska, which rates no. 1 in the nation, including the bridge to nowhere, but she repeats that lie.
She knows that Barack Obama is at least as knowledgeable about energy production and dependency, but she can't acknowledge that in her speech. Good thing she already acknowledged it before being picked by John McCain!

Is she going to talk about how she redistributed the wealth up there in Alaska? socialism
This woman is a a joke. Obama has been talking about energy independence for a long time.

Palin is the only candidate who actually knows what she is talking about when it comes to energy.
Obama has changes his stance on energy so many times, who knows what he would really do if elected. Other than turn America in to a Socialist country.
Democrat for McCain/Palin - Save us from Obama(the corrupt)

IS SARAH PALIN an expert on energy production? Not so much!
Here is an excerpt from factcheck.org in response to some of Palin's statements in the Charlie Gibson interview:
"Palin says Alaska supplies 20 percent of U.S. energy. Not true. Not even close.
Summary
Palin claims Alaska 'produces nearly 20 percent of the U.S. domestic supply of energy.' That's not true.
Alaska did produce 14 percent of all the oil from U.S. wells last year, but that's a far cry from all the 'energy' produced in the U.S.
Alaska's share of domestic energy production was 3.5 percent, according to the official figures kept by the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
And if by 'supply' Palin meant all the energy consumed in the U.S., and not just produced here, then Alaska's production accounted for only 2.4 percent."

IF WE CAN GET TO BIOFUELS THE BIG OIL BLOODSUCKERS WILL BE DONE AS THERE WILL ONCE AGAIN BE A COMPETITIVE MARKET------NOT THE BIG MONEY OIL MONOPOLY OF TODAY.
the gouging price controlling crap must end--and detroit better get on the ball and produce more efficient cars.
this should have started in the seventies obama has a firm grasp on these issues---republicans are big business oriented especially big oil which is controlling our country.

Palin has been quoted in saying ALASKA IS LOOKED AT AS A SOCIALIST STATE BECAUSE WE BELIVE IN SHARING THE WEALTH!! Sara you my friend are a FRAUD!!Sara the Socialisit!

Palin, again, misrepresents the voting records of Senator Obama. It is John McCain who has consistently voted against funding for alternative energy sources. Since she is clearly already running for 2012, Gov. Palin better dummy up and realize that the Internet is not her friend if she continues to spew the lies and misrepresentations that has come to define her in this election cycle. The McCain campaign just failed to recognize that the old way of campaigning, which involved saying anything and everything on the stump, is not valid anymore with the 24/7, immediate availability of the internet to verify or dispute what is being said. If she is serious about 2012, she needs to stop damaging her reputation and credibility, and buckle down and focus on getting up to speed on a thorough knowledge of national and international policy issues, before the defining legacy of the Palin image is that of Tina Fey winking provacatively at the camera.

DO YOU KNOW who Sarah Palin is?
She pushed through a huge INCREASE in oil production taxes in Alaska.
Yup. Sarah Palin. TAX INCREASER.
Here is an excerpt from an artical in the Seattle Daily News:
"Windfall tax lets Alaska rake in billions from Big Oil
While Congress and the presidential candidates debate the wisdom of a windfall tax on oil companies, Alaska has already imposed one, hauling in billions of dollars in new revenue for the state treasury.
By Ángel González and Hal Bernton
Seattle Times staff reporters
"Republicans in Congress this June united to defeat a proposed windfall tax on oil companies, deriding it as a bad idea that would discourage investment in U.S. oil exploration.
Things worked out far differently in the GOP stronghold of Alaska, a state whose economic fate is closely tied to the oil industry.
Over the opposition of oil companies, Republican Gov. Sarah Palin and Alaska's Legislature last year approved a major increase in taxes on the oil industry — a step that has generated stunning new wealth for the state as oil prices soared.
At a time when Americans are feeling the pinch at the gasoline pump and oil companies are racking up record profits, Alaska's choice foreshadows one of the sharpest debates in the upcoming presidential election.
Democrat Barack Obama supports a national windfall-profits tax, while Republican John McCain opposes it.
Alaska collected an estimated $6 billion from the new tax during the fiscal year that ended June 30, according to the Alaska Oil and Gas Association. That helped push the state's total oil revenue — from new and existing taxes, as well as royalties — to more than $10 billion, double the amount received last year.
While many other states are confronting big budget deficits because of the troubled economy, Alaska officials are in the enviable position of exploring new ways to spend the state's multibillion-dollar budget surplus."

There you go again, Sarah, say it ain't so, talkin' 'bout your $40 billion pipeline. More to it than that, though, you bet.
"While Palin deserves credit for enticing Calgary-based TransCanada to the state and getting the ball rolling, the pipeline is far from being built.
The state license approved by the Legislature this summer gives TransCanada $500 million in seed money and other incentives to design and seek approvals for the pipeline.
However, TransCanada is not obligated to build the pipeline and the license is not the same thing as a contract."

Update America:
PRINCETON, NJ -- A Gallup update based on more than 21,000 interviews conducted as part of Gallup Poll Daily tracking in October shows that registered voters' religious intensity continues to be a powerful predictor of their presidential vote choice. John McCain wins overwhelmingly among non-Hispanic whites who attend church weekly, while Barack Obama dominates among whites who seldom or never attend church.
Non Hispanic White that attend church weekly: Obama 28%…..McCain 65%
White Hispanic White that attend church weekly: Obama 43%…McCain 46%
Looks like Mr. Wright using the name of God in vain, Obama and Pastor Joel Hunter praying to (false) GODS lost the race to control religious people that believe in one GOD. AMEN.

Palin knows more about energy than anyone??
I guess that's proven by her chanting "drill baby drill".
Our options on energy sources for the future comes down to two choices, alternatives to oil or Nothing.
Drill all you want and we're still running.
If this woman knows much about anything she's done a very good job of keeping it a secret.
If this is the best Republicans have to offer we're in trouble.

A FEW MONTHS BACK I STATED THAT ALL THE DRILLING IN THE USA WOULD SOLVE NOTHING---WELL THERE IS A SURPLUS AT THIS TIME---GUESS WHAT EXACTLY AS STATED (THE ARABS WILL SIMPLY CLOSE THE OIL VALVE A LITTLE,AND IF YOU THINK FOR ONE MOMENT THAT GASS WILL NOT SKYROCKET IF MCCAIN GETS IN YOU WILL LEARN ANOTHER LESSON),THE HARD WAY.ANYTHING PALIN HAS TO SAY IS JUST CRAP.

RENEWABLE FUELS, WIND AND SOLAR ARE THE ANSWER.oil needs to become a dead issue--and if needed for mational security--the gavernment needs to take controll as natural resources belong to all of us ---not big oil sucking the blood out of us and our country----DEMAND AN END TO IT.WE CANNOT GIVE ANY MORE --
