Palin Pushes Tax Creep Argument
October 31, 2008 8:48 PM
ABC News' Imtiyaz Delawala reports: Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin charged that Sen. Barack Obama’s tax plan is “so phony that it's already starting to unravel,” continuing an argument made by her running mate Sen. John McCain this week that the Obama campaign’s level for who will receive tax cuts is creeping downward.
“Now, his whole tax plan, really, it is, it's so phony that it's already starting to unravel, and we're gonna call it the way that we see it,” Palin said at an afternoon rally in York, Pa. “It seems like every few days, we're getting a new definition now of middle class, according to their plan, whose taxes he says he won't raise on the middle class.”
Palin pointed to a comment made by Obama supporter Gov. Bill Richardson in a radio interview this morning, in which the New Mexico governor cited $120,000 as the income level where Americans would receive a tax cut under Obama’s plan.
"What Obama wants to do is he is basically looking at $120,000 and under among those that are in the middle class, and there is a tax cut for those," Richardson said.
Palin pounced on the remark, adding it to Sen. John McCain’s attack earlier this week after Democratic vice presidential nominee Sen. Joe Biden cited $150,000 as the income level where Americans would receive a tax cut.
“And just this morning, Gov. Bill Richardson, a top surrogate for the Obama campaign, he who is working so hard to get Obama elected, Richardson, said Obama's tax plan would define middle class as $120,000 a year and under,” Palin said. “So now, we're down to less than half the original income level and, just give it a little more time, and Barack Obama will be back to raising taxes on folks earning $42,000 a year. We can't let this happen.”
A spokesperson for Richardson responded that he misspoke, meaning to say that those making less than $250,000 would not see a tax increase.
The Obama campaign added that neither Biden nor Richardson’s comment reflected a change in the maximum figure of who would receive tax cuts, maintaining that those making up to $200,000 would receive a tax cut, and only those over $250,000 would have their taxes raised.
“Gov. Richardson admitted that he simply misspoke, and yet Sen. McCain continues this dishonest, desperate political attack to distract voters from the fact that his low-road campaign is being rejected by voters across the country,” Obama spokesman Tommy Vietor said, responding to comments Sen. McCain also made today referring to Richardson’s remark. “The truth is that Sen. Obama wants to give tax breaks to 95 percent of workers and their families, while Sen. McCain’s plan provides no tax relief for more than 100 million Americans.”

whoever that person posting as "granny toot" is - is just trying to get us to be outraged. And...of course...we all are...but...it doesn't surprise any of us that have seen the monkey doll at the rallies...the ignorant comments out of many of the supporters...the blatant racism which has never been adequately condemned by MCCain or Palin and so on. Their whole campaign has been utterly disgraceful and many of the Republicans I know including my mother are absolutely sickened by it.
As far as the tax comments are concerned...Senator Obama has consistently given the same numbers over and over and Governor Palin knows it. It's too bad his surrogates and running mates misspeak from time to time. It really isn't that difficult...maybe they're getting tired...but the man at the top of the ticket has been entirely consistent on this point.

Obama said $250,000, Obama still says $250,000, is the problem that Palin doesn't know the difference between 250 and 120 or is she just plain lying again?
Maybe that's the problem with her expense accounts, she can't count.

Rose, how much of your income are you willing to give up for these things?? How much of your income can you spare to bring the underclass up to the middle class?? Why don't you sign your entire paycheck over to the government so that they can provide all tehse programs. Then show up at their window and apply for benefits.
You work for them now. You have no money you can call "your own".
How will you like living like that??
How willyou like being like a person on welfare with the government in total control of your life??
"spread the wealth around"... is just away to appeal to people so that the government can gain control of people's lives like they already have of the underclass. They want to control all America. It's going to happen here. I can tell because people are so blind and don't think through the facts.

When will people realize the ther is no way for Obama's plan to work he is all talk.

It's not just Mr. Obama's tax policy that is phony, it's Mr. Obama himself. When we see him as a phony, Mr. Obama responds that the Washington system is broken. There's no faker candidate in our history.

"so phony that it's already starting to unravel"
TAKES ONE TO KNOW ONE.

JR,
When did Obama ever commit to NEVER in 4 years raise taxes on the middle class??
He didn't. He said all his plans depend on the economy. However, his "change" means that the underclass and working class are going to be brought up to equality with the middle class.
That means he must, after "Phase 1" raise taxes on the middle class.
He will redistribute their wealth to the lower class/working class.
He wants a living wage for all people and massive universal programs.
Get it?? Communism being phased in. That's the "change". He uses other words - but all of these universal programs with the the lower classes equal in income with the middle class will require full blown communism like they have in China.
That's your "change"

John McCain just announced he wants the capital gains tax to be reduced to 7%.
What John knows, and you need to know, is that rich people don't get their income from a salary like you or me.
Instead, they structure their contracts to receive their pay in the form of capital gains.
For example, a CEO might receive a salary of $125,000. But this same CEO will receive 10,000 "stock options".
What is a stock option? Well suppose that Apple's stock is at $125/share. Apple's board of directors (and I'm not picking on Apple, one of our great companies) will give Steve Jobs 10,000 stock options that entitle Mr. Jobs to buy stock at $10/share.
So Steve buys 10,000 shares of Apple stock at $10 and sells it for $125. That's $1,400,000 in profit.
I bet you wish you could by Apple stock as a discount like that.
But really, Apple is not selling stock to their CEO. They are making a cash transfer to him, as pay for his services.
But to the IRS man, this is CAPITAL GAINS.
So our CEO (really, I'm not picking on Steve Jobs either) is going to pay the highest income tax rate on his "salary" of $125,000.
But his main compensation, $1,400,000 is taxed as capital gains at a reduced rate.
If John McCain becomes president, the wealthiest Americans will pay 1/4 the tax rate as a hard working waitress making $50,000 a year!
* * * * * *
Here is the new John McCain tax program:
John McCain's plan:
Wealth redistribution.
From you.
To the rich.
millionaires: 7% cap gains tax
middle class: 25-28% income tax
Wake up!
Wake up!
Wake up!
Wake up America!

"They want to control all America."
sounds like the neo-cons to me. We've had 8 years of Fascists trying to control ALL of America, time to change that and put America back into the hands of the people.

Personally I can't stand Palin but I don't understand why any of them should have to release their medical records. Seems like a huge violation of their privacy.
Couldn't we have a nonpartisan board of physicians who would review each candidate's records, give them a physical, and give them the thumbs up or down? Or possibly some kind of summary/rating of their health?
If any of the candidates has had a venereal disease, eating disorder, whatever, it doesn't seem to me like it's our right to know such deeply private information. And I certainly don't want to hear about John McCain's hemorrhoids : )

The saddest part is knowing that Senator McCain and Governor Palin actually believe that we're going to buy their stories and overlook the truth. I really expected more out of John McCain. His campaign has been a disaster, primarily because of his running mate and his sudden pandering to the FAR right elements of the Republican party. How he can sell his soul to the party machinery and then call himself a maverick -- and he says it with a straight face, like he believes it -- that's just beyond my comprehension.

the only thing phony is the McCain and Palin team. Any votes they win will be because the people who choose them happily buy what they are selling. I am 50 something and have never seen such a lying campaign in all my years. They are disgraceful.

Wednesday night, John McCain admitted on the Larry King show (CNN) that Barack Obama is not a socialist!
But what about the 300 times that he and his running mate have called him this inflammatory name in their speeches????
If you say something, that you know is untrue, doesn't that make you a LIAR?
IS JOHN MCCAIN A LIAR?
WASN'T HE LYING TO THE AMERICAN PUBLIC?
WHAT DOES THE 10 COMMANDMENTS SAY ABOUT 'BEARING FALSE WITNESS'?

I wonder how many of those who are are critical of Sarah Palin on this blog are actually Obama staffers who fill up blogs such as this one to make it appear like there many are on his side?

She's a moron.

I believe that no matter how contradicting Obama's policies are and how many promises he broke, he may still win as Americans desperately want change. Americans may think that no matter what kind of change and as long as it is the change from Bush, there is no harm trying.
Americans are idolising politicians. Maybe it is time for Republicans to get new blood of idol quality to strengthen Republicans.

Obama wants to tax capital gains up to 28%. That means that people who have saved for retirement will see Obama steal 28% of that money. Where will it go?? Wealth redistribution to people who don't work.
He's committed himself to bringing the underclass up to the middle class. That's what he's said ALL HIS CAREER.
What he syas is his tax plan for "Phase 1" of change... is just PHASE 1. He's goign to tax working people and give the money to the underclass and tax the living daylights out of the middle class. He never promised he wouldn't.
And a Democratic Congress is already saying htey want to raise taxes on the middle class.
Posted by: ev | Oct 31, 2008 9:33:58 PM
I guess Gov. Richardson is either stupid, dumb or ignorant when he said that he misspoke....If you were any Obama supporter, you would know that Obama has been preaching $250,000 is the cutoff amount that would NOT see a tax increase...However, We the American people that have been LIED to by Obama are just now figuring out that the cut off amount will be $120,000. I wonder what other promises that Obama has told will become LIES.....90 or 100% of his promises??????

"I wonder how many of those who are are critical of Sarah Palin on this blog are actually Obama staffers'
probably about half as many as there are McCain staffers calling Obama a socialist or a communist.
