Report: Did John McCain's Brother Make 911 Call About Traffic?

Angry because he was stuck in traffic, a man named Joe McCain -- possibly the brother of the presidential candidate -- placed a call earlier in the week to 911 emergency, ABC News affiliate, WJLA, reports.

The October 21 call went to the city of Alexandria, Virginia emergency operations. This is the transcript of the call:

Operator: 911 state your emergency
Caller: It's not an emergency but do you know why on one side at the damn drawbridge of 95traffic is stopped for 15 minutes and yet traffic's coming the other way?

Operator: Sir, are you calling 911 to complain about traffic? (pause)
Caller: "(Expletive) you." (caller hangs up)

The 911 operator, apparently, unnerved by use of the 911 emergency number to complain about bad traffic, called back the phone number that placed the call.

The operator reached a voice mail message that said, "Hi this is Joe McCain I can't take this message now because I'm involved in a very (inaudible) important political project... I hope on Nov. 4th we have elected John."

Outraged by the operator's action, the man called 911 a second time. That conversation went as follows:

Caller: Somebody gave me this riot act about the violation of police.
Operator: Did you just call 911 in reference to this?
Caller: Yeah.
Operator: 911 is to be used for emergencies only, not just because you're sitting in traffic.

WJLA reports that the McCain campaign would not comment.

Yeah, geevil is right, quit picking on Joe. He is only a brother. It's not like the republicans ever picked on Billy Carter or used Clinton's brother against him...not like they have dredged up Obama's half-brother in Kenya, right? right? They have? Oh......never mind.

He must be the smart kid in the family.

Dammit! Don't you know who I am?! I'm a McCain! The world revolves around me! Now clear this traffic, or after my brother is elected president, I'll have him throw your sorry butt in Gitmo!

Just another reason why we don't need to have irresponsible people running the white house. Joe McCain, should never be on the Campaign with John if he is prone to out bursts like this. I am pretty sure no one knows their sibling like john knows his brother! Obama For President!

I'm so glad the crack media team at ABC news brought this breaking story to my attention. I especially like the part where they speculate if it's really John McCains brother. This country is surely better off with such great journalist on our side. Thanks ABC...

Randy,

You sound a little "angry". Your last name wouldn't be McCain by any chance?

Posted by: Randy | Oct 24, 2008 1:06:37 AM

just like the "kill him" allegation, which was proven to be a fabrication of the media and peddled by the Obama campaign for political gain, or possibly vice versa, this allegation should be taken at this point as possibly be a fabrication of the media and peddled by the Obama campaign for political gain, or possibly vice versa, as well for the time being.

I am the Joe McCain. It is a terribly thing which I greatly regret. I thought my cell phone was off when I made the epithet, and I owe those officers a direct and sincere apology, and will do so.

There is no more to say, just that I remorseful and terribly sorry.

I guess it runs in the family! Gives you a sneak preview of how John McCain would react if things don't go his way. I can hardly wait for 4th November and to say goodbye to these clowns and hippocrates running on the GOP ticket.

Sounds like 911 is just like the MSM...if someone says its true, it must be. No facts or research necessary. What has happened to journalism in America? I guess it died when George Soros bought it.

I guess someone calling 911 and claiming to be Joe McCain, makes it true. Just like someone claiming to be a natural-born citizen makes it so. Just like some one claiming not to have associations with radical extremists makes it so. Just like someone claiming to cut taxes for 95% of Americans makes it so.

Those that believe these claims...do America a favor and stay home on November 4th.

Gee, when the operator called back and he got joe mccain's voicemail (I looked up this story elsewhere, and the welcome message even endorses mccain in it,) I wonder why mccain ignored that call, maybe he was busy yelling at traffic! also I just figured out why mccain keeps talking about "Joe the plumber", he thinks that joe is his brother!

you people make me sick

Give Joe some credit, maybe he was in a hurry to get out of 'communist country'?

Americangirl1974 is the definition of ignorant. "Just like someone claiming to be a natural-born citizen makes it so." --- Seriously. If this were true don't you think the FBI would have caught on to that one by now? Or are the FBI terrorists too? The entire McCain campaign is based on scare tactics and what's really sad is that people like this believe it. "Those that believe these claims...do America a favor and stay home on November 4th.
Funny, that's the only way McCain could win. I actually got an email the other day saying that due to record expected voter turnout that only Republicans should vote on the fourth and Democrats should vote on the fifth. That's the Republican way, if you can't beat them, cheat. I can't wait until this is over so I don't have to hear stupid everyday.

Sad: you can teach a three year old How, when, and why to call 911. But a grown up doesn't have to care?

This is karma for all the times ROGER CLINTON's actions were made a big deal of. At least we see that old man syndrome isnt only prevalent in John

Anyone that believes this is real is a complete idiot. Or a lefty, samething.

Posted by: Jim | Oct 24, 2008 9:39:45 AM

Has Mr. McCain heard of OnStar??

Posted by: webbie | Oct 24, 2008 9:50:35 AM

My friends... What my brother Joe was trying to get across was he was concerned about the safety of the people on the road. If there was an accident, he wanted to jump out of his car and go help. My friends, I am here today telling you this because I want total transparency in my campaign.
