Stephanopoulos: Obama raised over $150 million in September
October 19, 2008 6:53 AM
ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos reports: Barack Obama’s presidential campaign shattered all records in September by raising more than $150 million, the campaign announced in an e-mail to supporters this morning.
Obama’s haul more than doubles his previous monthly best of $67 million, which came during August of this year, and will further fuel his financial advantage over John McCain.
Since accepting public funds after being nominated for president at the Republican Convention in early September, McCain has been limited to spending $84 million, although the Republican National Committee has raised additional money on his behalf.
Obama has been putting his financial advantage to good use, and in recent weeks has massively outspent McCain on television ads. During the second week of October, Obama spent $32 million blanketing the airwaves in the key battleground states, while McCain and the RNC combined to spend only $16 million.
Obama’s campaign says its September fundraising was fueled by 632,000 donors, giving the campaign a total of 3.1 million since launching early last year.
On "This Week with George Stephanopoulos" this morning, a powerhouse roundtable of George Will, Donna Brazile, Newt Gingrich, David Gergen, and Tom Friedman will assess the political implications of Obama’s significant cash advantage.

Palin's relentless attacks were what drove Obama's supporters to contribute in Sept. Thanks Ms Palin!

Yup.. and he got $10.00 from me. Best I could do with a mortgage, food, gas etc. The point is....150 million is not just from big donations, it can be from tiny, little donations like mine.

with the unfortunate mistakes and misjudgments the McCain Palin ticket has made with where the line is between campaigning...and inciting a whole new generation of "Timothy mcVeighs" and "Joe Vogels"...
Obama unfortunately is going to have to put about half of that into security...ugh.
not just a question of McCain Palin's judgment...but a loss of character like a double diamond ski slope. ugh.

I have friends who are dyed-in-the-wool Republicans that live in Northern California (Menlo Park, Ca.), who absolutely LOATHE Sarah Palin, and who don't like John McCain either, and they maxed-out months ago on how much they could afford to give to Obama's campaign so at that point in time, they recruited THEIR well-heeled friends/relatives to give to Obama's campaign, and they tell me that most HAVE--Truly Fascinating. Personally, I've given myself to Obama's campaign, although not nearly as much as they've given, but for Obama to have raised $150 million dollars in 1 month is totally staggering, because that money had to have been generated by SOMETHING/SOMEONE, so Obama will have MORE than enough to spend McCain/Palin under the table while at the same time, if he chooses he can help other Dems down the ticket as well in other states.
Hats off to O!!!

I gave too and I am giving again when I get paid...let us give to the end we will need it again in 2012.
More importantly, get all your family and friends to come out and vote. If you can vote early, do so so on election day you can get out the vote. Yes we can.
Obama/Biden

Unlike the McCain campaign that spreads hate, Obama is about hope and what is good about America. Latest McCain camp craziness
Pro-America parts of USA-S. Palin hmmm the rest of us are what?
Northern VA is communist-McCain's brother
Real vs Fake VA-McCain surrogate
Congress anti-American Buchannan Repub MN
Tax-cut for working class is welfare-John McCain
What kind of hate is this?? If someone is voting republican and are your friends, challange them to defend this crap. Please do not give up, talk to your family and friends and let's send McCain/Palin to frozen political north pole.
YES WE CAN

Amazing! This time the republicans are the bug and the democrats the windshield. Swooosh!

I wish that money could turn into votes. 150 million votes would be a landslide. Let's not get complacent. Still a lot of work to do. Get out the vote!

I lost my job because my company laid almost everyone off, I owe 200k in student loans, I have family to support, and we still managed to donate $400 to Obama. If we can do it, you can too. In our minds, it's the best investment we can make right now.

US has a choice, which is either to vote in Obama and regain the worlds respect, leadership of the free world and save the world in teh process; or vote in McCain and continue to be a laughing stock of the world and continue with the destruction which it has been very successful for the past 8 years.

the US economy is not that bad...people have lots of money to give our hero: Obama! I gave him my pay check las week. I gave him my children's allowance too !

Big sum of donation is not the accumulation of donation from general citizens. The big amounts are usually contributed from rich people, certain associations, companies, parties, etc. whom Obama may need to return favour to.
Palin's wordings on Obama's relationship with Ayers were too strong without rationale or solid proof. However, Americans seem not really care whom Obama is related with. Americans do not care whether certain people other than general citizens might benefit from Obama's presidency.
This can prove that Americans really desperate to get out of the present situation of America.

the uncalled comments of mccain and palin has been one of the reason for this influx of donations. this is another miscalculation from the mccain camp.

That just shows you how little your money is worth ! If you correct for inflation your vote is worth less today than it was 4 years ago!

That really shows the strength of Americans!! What a slap in the face for the hateful, deceitful, fascists Republicans! I have also donated a little bit at a time. This is great news for America. Let's keep it up guys and God bless all of you!

Palin motivated me to make a second contribution last week to Barack and I will give more next week largely due to the continuing GOP attack adds.

i am a legal immigrant and has no say in this upcoming election. but as a neighbor and resident of this country, i felt obliged to our future and the future of this nation to give some donation to the obama camp. i am proud to have done that.
